He doesn't quite get things to jive after a valiant effort, but redeems himself later on with a high speed flat tire/wheel change for teammate Cheyne Hoag.

be fun to watch, but it would take way too long with even the fastest tire changer. far easier (and faster) to throw a new wheel on

what they should do is have a mechanical jack on the car door that lifts the top tube and rear stays (thus lifting the rear wheel off the floor, car takes weight of rider and bike) to change the wheel without stopping. Dragons den here i come!

Usually, that's what they would do, and then the cyclist can just whip his arm around and lock the brakes again later on. Besides, the back brake usually just causes skidz.

ApocaIypse666 Yeah., very elite skills. Like having a helicopter 100 meter from you in the air while doing a 24 h run in the desert, totally legit powers. It is what biking is all about - having a car with you 10 feet away at all times. Gay sport!

Would it pay to have this much attention just for a race? One thing is competing, but having a car follow you with a mechanic a driver and other things it just seems like it takes the fun out of it

At this level, every team will have at least 1 support car, they even have 3-4 complete spare bikes on the roof

If you watched untill the end you would see it :) it was like 10 seconds to change the back wheel :)

How come these pro riders don't know to be on the right side of the road/vehicle for technical assistance? Are they new to mass start road races or something? Not criticizing, just genuinely curious.

I think he on this side because of the other road vehicles. I have seen people on this side before n dI always assumed it was when there were lots of vehicles dropping water off to the domestiques. Not sure if that's right but that's what I guessed.
