Another great video. That boot cut shot in the beginning makes me laugh. I always see photographers criticize people who cut off the feet but it's pretty standard in film.
@RobertSilverPhotography
@RobertSilverPhotography 6 ай бұрын
If I decide to cut a boot, it's intentional. But the first photo was a full-body portrait - NO boot was cut. But I have seen it cut plenty of times in fashion magazines. Due to composition, the size of the page, and the purpose of the photo (whether the image is really about the subject rather than the boot). Thanks Martin for watching!

I had a MagMod Grid attached to the MagMod Sphere. Which helped controlling the direction of the light - decreased light spill. Through out the shoot I had to keep adjusting how I held the flash to make sure it hit the model's face. I hope that helps in anyway. Thanks for the question.

Stupid question but did you set HSS on the flash itself - and/or the trigger?
@vanlee0831
@vanlee0831 6 ай бұрын
Two question of a rookie: 1. With the large power of strobe like AD200 or more when doing HSS , would you think A93 is a must ? 2.Because the direction of the flash is straight on and the softer is not so big , how do you still get good result ? ( My English is not so well , but I mean your photos are good . I just want to know why you can do this with the flash configuration.)

No!
@RobertSilverPhotography
@RobertSilverPhotography 6 ай бұрын
1) not at all. If you were a 1200W flash strobe, then it would be.helpful. The AD200 is only 200W. 2) Since there is plenty of ambient (natural) light in the scene, due to the time of the day, II use flash as a fill light. I increase my shutter speed in order to expose for the background. Then I use the flash on the model. I will make a video on high speed sync flash photography to further explain how it's done. I hope that helps. Thank you for the question!

I'm using the MagMod MagSphere as the modifier. amzn.to/42gBKOM The grip is really the part that connects the AD200 to a light stand. The comes included with your purchase of the AD200. It just works perfectly as a handle. amzn.to/3OlsO57

I've purchased the Zf and the MagMod Magshpere for my AD200 Pro. I already had the X2TN flash trigger and I've connected it to the AD200, but I can't seem to figure out the settings on the Zf to get the flash to fire. Do you know of a good resource for this? I've obviously got something set wrong and Flash Control is grayed out in the Menu. @@RobertSilverPhotography

Robert - I assume you are using the Small Rig grip with the Zf - wondering how good the grip is when using big lenses like the 50 1.2 S that you use in this video. I'd appreciate your thoughts on this? Thanks! -PD
@RobertSilverPhotography
@RobertSilverPhotography 6 ай бұрын
Great question! The SmallRig grip is a game changer. It make it make easier and more pleasant to use. Especially with larger lenses. I was using the Z 50mm f1.2 lens - which isa bit hefty. Im glad I had the grip, lol. My hand never got tired after all that shooting. Now it stays on my ZF, LOL. I hope that helps in anyway. amzn.to/41ZtgvC
@photographydiscourse1185
@photographydiscourse1185 6 ай бұрын
@@RobertSilverPhotography That does help to an extent. My curiosity is just because I have heard that the grip makes the camera more ergonomic to a point but that lenses that are larger are still hard to use for extended times. I've heard different opinions on this where some say that anything larger than the 24-70 2.8 S is a no-go even with the grip. Like Taylor Jackson, for example, who loves the Zf and thinks it is a great wedding camera said that he used it at a wedding with the grip and the 50 1.2 S lens and that by the end of the day he had hurt his wrist - so he suggests using the 50 1.8 S with this camera even with the grip. Just wondering what your take would be on that. I am still undecided on whether I will get this camera or just wait for the Z6III as a second camera to my Z8 - and I am trying to get as many opinions on the grip and how much it really helps. In your case, comparing using the 50 1.2 S for a shoot like the one in this video with a Z8 vs. a Zf with the grip - how different (ergonomically) is it? If you don't have a Z8 then compared to a Z6 II for example would also lend some insight - thanks! :) -PD
@RobertSilverPhotography
@RobertSilverPhotography 6 ай бұрын
@@photographydiscourse1185 Ok, I get it now. When I got this camera I wanted to a very capable camera for whenI travle or out and about. It wasn't to replace either my Z8 or Z9. The ergonomics of the Z8 is fantastic - music more comfortable than the Zf. The Zf wasn't released to be set in the same lane as teh Z8 or Z9. Its in its own, niche space. With that said, I may have to Taylor wwhen it comes to using hte camera with a larger lens like the 70-200mm. To be honest,I would use it as a primary camera - to serve. all of my purposes. Unless Im a causal, travel shooter. From what I can tell about the Z6III (specs) it would be an ideal 2nd camera with the Z8. Im releasing my thoughts about the specs and rumors of hte Z6III on Monday.
@photographydiscourse1185
@photographydiscourse1185 6 ай бұрын
@@RobertSilverPhotography Thanks Robert - that is pretty much my impression as well and has been. I've been shooting weddings with the Z6II for a while and now I use the Z8. I have no doubt that the Z6III will be the prefect companion to the Z8 - indeed, I think that will be part of the actual design philosophy that Nikon is using to make it. I, too, would only be using the Zf as a casual/walk around camera, but since you used it with such a large and heavy (relatively) lens as the 50 1.2 S that I use regularly for some of my other commercial work, I was just curious how it handled with such a lens since others found that lens to be too large and heavy (even with the grip) to use regularly. IF so, it still may not be a deal breaker for me (I need an excuse to use my 50mm 1.8 S lens again as it is also such a great lens that has been outshined by my 1.2 😂) Likely, I will end up getting the Z6III to accompany my Z8 for pro work, and the Zf for the walk around and fun stuff in my personal life - but I was curious how it would perform with bigger lenses and the grip in a pinch. The impression I am getting is that it can be used with bigger lenses like the 50 1.2 S, Plena, 85 1.2 S etc but for short periods of time - like the shoot that you did in this video - versus using it all day for 10-12 hours at an event like a wedding. For something like that if push came to shove and this camera had to be used, it would likely be best to just use the 1.8 S line of lenses, which to be honest never disappoint anyway. Thanks for your input on this :) -PD

@@photographydiscourse1185 Overall, I think you're assumption is right. For a 10-12 hour event I for sure would pack the Z8 + Z9. But if you decide on a long event with the Zf the 50mm f1.8 would be much more comfortable over an extended period of time. If youve gott he money, buy them all, lol. If not, wait to see more about theZ6III is my recommendation. Cause its looking great for video too. Thanks a lot for the questions. Keep shooting and stay creative!

You do have to take into account the recycle time for when using it at 1/2 to full power. I’m sure there where times I was taken photos and not allowing the enough time for the flash to recharge. I was only concerned with the photos that the flash was used though - thus I shared. Except one of them; which I mentioned in the video.

The diffuser on the ad 200 is doing nothing but eat light!
@RobertSilverPhotography
@RobertSilverPhotography 6 ай бұрын
Every modifier does some sort of 'eating light.' Shooting bare-bulb is only going to increase the chance for high speculative lighting on the acute angles of her face. Which would make her look shinier (skin across her cheeks and right above her eyeline) than I would like. So the modifier is doing exactly what I need it to do. Creating a softer, more flattering lighting. I never had to shoot at full power. A conscious, creative decision. I appreciate your feedback and thank you for watching.😁
