Alright Randi… it’s #HighsteaksReview time @Avalon.Delray Avalon Steak & Seafood (Delray Beach, FL) With bonus random woman walking down Atlantic Ave.
Two steaks, everyone knows the rules. OG camera man (Jake G.). Porterhouse, rare, as usual.
Also, writing this while my spring allergies felt like trying to smack the shit out of me. But you think I’m gonna let some allergies and a sore throat stop me from posting a review?
I’ll get right to it. Their porterhouse was solid. It was very very similar to Cut 432… especially in terms of size & price. Avalon charger $165 for a ~35 oz porterhouse. I believe it was $155 about 2 months ago.
I do not want to complain about the price, and I don’t really factor it in to my scores, but $165 for a porterhouse that isn’t even dry aged is very expensive. For reference… Peter Luger STILL only charges $130 for a dry aged steak about the same size, if not slightly bigger.
However, it was seasoned really nicely. I would say an appropriate amount of salt, and a very minimal amount of pepper.
It was cooked nicely. Definitely closer to medium rare than to rare, but if you’re going to miss, miss up. The crust was also relatively substantial, so I was definitely happy with the overall cook on the steak.
Also, it came with bone marrow, roasted garlic, and 5 different sauces. I love roasted garlic. The bone marrow was great on the steak, truffle butter not needed. I did not try the sauces.
I went 6.8 on their porterhouse, the same score I gave CUT432. Honestly looking back I probably could have gone 6.9, but the first score sticks.
6.8 Avalon Steakhouse, Delray Beach, Atlantic Ave. that’s your review.
