Mark Rosen, head coach at University of Michigan, explains how perimeter defense changes to match your team's, and the opposing team's level. For college teams, perimeter defenders must be deeper in the back of the court to compete against higher level offenses. For high school and club, the defenders often start in a more shallow position to be ready for the setter dump.

if opponent setter is front row, tips a lot, and pass is close to the net, high. Yes. you need to a litter bit stay forward. otherwise, the left back should stay in middle of the court. and we always move foward faster than move back. So, Stay back, watch opponent setter, ready move foward. Thats wrong that in any situation, left back, right back always stay on 10 feet line.
