You should react to the anime!! If you're scared of how long it is, maybe you can watch the anime alongside the LA (Watch season 1 LA, watch the equivalent in the anime, watch season 2 LA, watch the equivalent in the anime, etc); it would take a lot of time but hey, slowly but surely. Mostly for the fights, they don't adapt very well to real life. Sanji vs Kurobi was my favourite fight in the East Blue but because of the time they had and the fact that it's so hard to adapt them it was left to just one short scene; same with Usopp vs Chew and a whole character that Zoro fought

WATCH THE ANIME!!! While the live action version is amazing, the anime expands on the details only mentioned within the show. They flesh out their character arcs more within the 44 episodes they adapted, the Dub is actually really good, and the pacing doesn't seem to drag at any point!

Garp throwing cannonballs like baseballs & Mihawk cutting up ships in half from a distance are the first clues we have to how broken the power scale in this show is... and I love it. I can't wait for Season 2.

Usopp's dream is interesting because he's the only one that can decide what it means to be a brave warrior of the sea, and depending on how you define bravery he's probably the bravest amoung them. Its not a lack of fear, hes constantly scared shitless, but when it counts he steps up and does what he needs to in spite of the fear and that in my opinion is true bravery.

I love how you go from normal voice to demon voice from hell when something surprises you! 😂 The live action covers roughly 45-50 episodes of the anime, some things from earlier episodes are taken out and other things from future episodes are added but for the main story arc it’s around episode 50. I never watched the anime, never thought I would, because it’s so massive. Then I watched the live action, decided to watch the corresponding episodes of the anime (45-50 episodes is a easier commitment than 1100+) but now I’m several hundreds of episodes in and I absolutely love it!

The One Piece live-action adaptation focuses solely on the East Blue saga, comprising about 50 episodes out of the expansive 1000-episode anime. While it effectively captures the essence of the original manga/anime, the full depth and richness of the story truly shine in its entirety. I can say, the East Blue saga is just a prologue of One Piece story. The original narrative is profoundly touching and masterfully told, offering a deeply satisfying storytelling experience. What's remarkable is how the series continually evolves and improves with each successive arc. Even when you believe it's already a perfect 10 out of 10, it manages to exceed expectations, consistently raising the bar with every progression. If you're considering embarking on the adventure of One Piece, I wholeheartedly welcome you aboard and would be thrilled to journey alongside you.

Nami got a tattoo of a pinwheel on her arm. So the whole pinwheel thing is something that was not explained very well in the live action. There were a few short scenes where Genzo had a pinwheel in his hat but in the anime he wears the pinwheel all the time. When Nami was a baby seeing Genzo's face would make her cry but when he put the pinwheel in his hat it made her smile. So he still wears the pinwheel years later since Nami is suffering hoping it will somehow give her some comfort. The village was not as blind in the anime, they knew why Nami was working for Arlong and never said anything in hopes she would just forget them and run away to have a better life. Honestly I think her sister might have been they only one the didn't know. Nami and Genzo have a much closer relationship in the anime, he is the closest thing she has to a father.

Nojiko knew everything. Nami told her, after having her tattoo done. So in return Nojiko got her own tattoos and told everyone the truth. Hence why they were standoffish, they wanted Nami to run away.

29:50 Yeah, about that, my theory is that what Usopp really wants is to be a hero who is worth telling adventures about. That's another reason why Usopp lies; it's because he himself would also love to go on these adventures for real.

A bit more context on Kobe and Helmeppo’s goals. Kobe’s dream is to become a Marine admiral. The second highest rank in the organization with only 3 positions available. In the manga, captain Morgan is being transferred to a prison and escapes by taking Helmeppo hostage. Kobe helps to rescue him but Morgan gets away and Helmeppo vows to get strong enough to capture his father. So there’s a little more than just his ego being hurt by Zoro.

The anime is longer because... There were more supporting characters with their own motivations, Usopp's motivations and story was explored more and Nami's flashback was longer---also because there were more characters in her flashback. Opla had good pacing but there was also a lot cut out of it. Well, good thing I read the manga and anime along with the live action😊

@EversPrimeTime, 26:40 Something tells me their words went over your head--they're rivals! Mihawk complimented Luffy's hat at the Baratie, remember? You saw how badass Mihawk was when he fought Zoro. Now you know how much of a bad as Shanks can be if he needs to be. He's down an arm, but he's still very much a badass. The sea beast that attacked him left him alone after sensing his aura...at least that's how I interpreted that scene back in the second episode. I can't wait for season 2 either. This season had a bunch of finales in the last episode, and I enjoyed every one of them, particularly the one that showed them as children as they declared their dreams once again =)

(Spoilers for EversPrimeTime below) Yeah, when Mihawk says “a man of your stature”, he’s being dead serious. As is Shanks when he genuinely believes he can take him on with just one arm. Between how casual Shanks is with Mihawk, and his use of what we now know of as Haki against the sea beast, they do a great job of alluding to the fact that Shanks really is a Big Fucking Deal.

1:24 NO, no, it's because she has been doing that for so long without stopping that her hand had started bleeding (Because they forced her to not stop) 20:23 Garp wasn't in the anime at this point. He was introduced in what would be the equivalent of season 4, around episode 280. So all that plot point of him coming to accept that Luffy is ready to face what being a pirate means doesn't exist in the anime. It isn't very forced or out of character, I could imagine Garp going through all 5 stages of grief in his office when he heard that Luffy had set sail, but it is an LA only story line

Garp was in the manga at this point (in a cover story that was adapted only a few arcs later by the anime which already shows him in the East Blue with Koby and Helmeppo) but his relationship to Luffy was only revealed way later.

I would go so far as to say Garp's reaction was in result to evrything leading up to Luffy setting sail. To Garp, Luffy was the last hope of someone he cared about actually staying safe. Not going to explain this because spoilers, but I will say that I feel this live action version of Garp will have a lot more to say during the Impel Down and Marineford arcs in direct result to the events of season one.

No. No, it would not be okay if this was wrapping up the series (though yes, you’re right it would be very nicely contained). I need more of the live-action “One Piece”. The sheer joy in the cast is infectious and we need just pure optimistic fun like this brings. I genuinely think it’s better than the anime because there’s just more nuance in inflection, mannerism, etc. from a group of people that are - by all accounts - fully invested in this (for bonus episode you should check into the “special” on how they each became involved; Emily Rudd basically wished as a child to be Nami someday and threw her all into her audition while Taz immersed himself into cooking for the cast between shoots and Inaki - Luffey - cried with happiness when he got to meet the manga’s creatour). Don’t get me wrong; I am a fan of the anime. I love the creativity of the world, the positive messages of camaraderie and following dreams, the cheekiness mixed with the dramatic - it’s a blast. There’s just something though about this live action adaptation that makes me want to just go find a crew and go around seeing what people need and how we can help them realize their dreams. Being I can’t get more live action episodes for awhile I’ve been watching reactours absurdly frequently as a way to see the fun they’re having watching the show. Which brought me to find your channel this week and I have to say you’re easily one of the most upbeat energetic ones; you fit the feel of the series. :) Happily following and subscribing!

Garp is like one of the top 10 strongest characters in all of One Piece. Could argue that he is in the top 5. NOT ONLY THAT, this Garp we saw in this episode was utilizing only about 10% of his actual strength. Maybe less. He is that strong. Right now in the manga (over 1,000 chapters), Luffy definitely should be able to beat Garp, I think. Stalemate maybe. Garp is just ridiculously strong.

They’re not going to all 4 oceans, they’re going to the Grand Line right away, it’s an area of water and islands that rings around the planet. They have to make a complete 360 journey. There’s also a continent that makes another ring around the globe, this and the Grand Line makes a cross that separates the 4 oceans.

In refference to what you said, this is rather condensed, but unlike too many adaptations that do the big payoff moments but throw out all the buildup to cut the runtime, this series has mostly been really careful to keep the setup for the payoff their deploying. Mostly. Nothings perfect, but this was really good, and hopefully after season 2 (In production now) the showrunners will be allowed to do their whole 10+ season adaption.
