I remember watching them, albeit without my parents permission, when I was much younger. Christopher Lee was the master to many people when it came to playing Dracula, but then again, Bela Lugosi is possibly my favourite.

I wonder what people thought when they were filming in the cemetery and they saw him walking around in costume as dracula.

I'd have loved to have been on set during the filming of these movies. Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing two absolute legends and to see them in costume doing their thing would have been a dream to watch.

Cheers GV! First time visit to this cemetery and we loved it. As Ive said in a few other replies, we just timed it wrong weather wise. So many paths closed off to the public due to it being too slippery, which i fully understand.

We are planning on going back as it was too wet to visit a lot of the areas. We have also spoken about travelling up to Scotland to visit the Edinburgh vaults and all the graveyards up there. Just a matter of saving and planning a date.

St. Michaels church in Dumfries has an amazing graveyard. We were there last summer to visit Robert Burns' mausoleum. It is not a large churchyard, but contains enormous memorials, which are very old, mostly forgotten now, and very,very 'Gothic'. Kind regards from Shropshire, England.

Michael Faraday is also buried there but easily missed if you don’t know where or shown buy a guided tour

@@karlmurray4479 I kicked myself once I returned home from our trip and only then realised Faraday is buried there. There's a couple more, but Faraday I was sad to miss.

I totally agree about the Cemetery being a calming place. We cannot wait to go back again, hopefully very soon.

I honestly don't know why I didn't say North London 😬 that goes to show how good I am at geography I guess. But thanks also for the info on the glass topped crypt and the Bram Stoker connection. We have been to Whitby numerous times and immersed ourselves in the Dracula story, but never knew anything about Stoker and Highgate! That's something else now for us to delve into.

We loved where we visited in London. I know it gets a bad rap with the many homeless people and the begging, we got stopped a few times, but it's no different than other cities. Also crime doesn't help, but again, no different to anywhere else. People we spoke with where all extremely pleasant and friendly. We are going back to film something different sometime this year and cannot wait 😁

Hi Gaynor, we are hoping to get back down some time in summer but it all depends on costs and which weekends we have available.

I think we will pay for a guided tour next time as we didn't know much regarding where some of the famous graves were and the not so famous. We did had a map, but the info was quite sparse on it.

I know I rambled on during the video about how beauty can be found in death, but it's how I view it, when walking around graveyards I mean. I see beauty all around places like that and as you say, the stories all those people will have just blows my mind.

Thanks Donna. Just wish it hadn't had rained that morning as many of the pathways were cordoned off to the public. We could see loads of interesting headstones buried in the middle of these areas, but we just couldnt get to them.

We visited the Verona Monumental Cemetery in Rome in December and I have to say, it's a toss up between that and Highgate as to which I liked the most. Verona was special and old, but Highgate is just something else. Well worth a visit. I'd love to do more, such as the Pere Lachaise, and hopefully on time we might be able to visit more.

I remember something along those lines, collecting cards from movies. I think I had the original Star Wars ones that came with bubble gum. God knows what ever happened to them though.

The video would have been far better if it hadn't rained that morning and access to other parts were open 😞 Saying that, we have planned to return at some point this year all being well.

There is something serene about graveyards and cemeteries. I just love how peaceful they are and the history that they contain within. Highgate has so many interesting characters interred there and we have planned to go back in summer.

We hear more stories of cremations becoming more the norm nowaways which for me is quite sad. Headstones and visiting graveyards where people are interred are fascinating places to visit and each headstone tells its very own story. Imagine how many of these 'stories' could be shared and spoke about with just a little bit of research. Whereas a cremation, in a weird way and unless your a family member or relative, kind-of erases these stories as most of us will never get to know the people, if that makes any sense.

Hi Mandy, thanks for coming along and commenting. Highgate has been high up on my list for a while and we had the opportunity to visit as our daughter was travelling down to London. We basically tagged along, saw her off and then went our own way for the weekend. The cemetery itself is brilliant, but the weather kind of hindered us slightly, but I guess its not surprising for this time of year.

You should. I was blown away with it, especially the circle of lebanon. I didnt realise just how many movies have been filmed there if Im being honest.

Unused to watch them sneakily when my parents were either out or it was late at night and everyone was in bed 😅 You can't beat the older movies.

We just picked the wrong weekend unfortunately as the rain fell asleep soon as we left the train and slowly made our way towards the cemetery. The rain did ease up for the rest of the day, but the damage was done in respect to where we could walk in the grounds. We are planning on returning though sometime in the summer.

I've never heard of anyone paying to go into a cemetery, and I've been to many in other countries, especially in France, which have beautiful graves mausoleums.

A couple of people have since mentioned the old one in Liverpool. We are going to visit it this year thanks to the kind comments on here 😀

Now that grave sounds interesting, the assassinated person - would you know or be able to find out the name? We are revisiting later this year and that's a story right up our street.

I never knew that Johno! It would make sense then, as it seems many movies of that type, the horror genre, seemed to have been filmed there in the 60s, 70s and dare I say, 80s.

@DaysofHorror I went to see George Michael's Grave and also Litvenuko ie the Russian defector who was Poisoned By Polonium 126 I understand 'Trigger' from 'Only fools and Horses' is buried there. Also Jean Simmons ie Verinia in 'Spartacus' So many fascinating graves...I must go back. Malcolm McClaren also!

We saw both Litvenuko and Jean Simmons graves but, and just like a few others, we had loads of people around us, so filming was really difficult. We have some b-footage but not enough to have included in this video unfortunately.

I honestly cannot say why we havent yet been to Southern Cemetery as its only a short drive away. Its a place I want to visit and check out some of the famous interments. i think we will go this year, but when, I cant say just yet.

Cheers Paul. We had loads more planned, such as doing a video on the Highgate Vampire story, but things transpired against us which kind of put a dampner on it.

Yeah it's open to the public and not just to tours 👍 Even though it may look quiet in the video, we tried to just film when no-one was near us. We spent an age at some graves as a lot of people had gathered, such as the George Michael grave and the Ian Holm one. We did video other famous graves but we just had too many people walking in front of the camera and it did spoil it at times. I understand though that these graves of famous people will always attract crowds, so fair enough I guess. But it isn't cheap to go into the grounds. £10 per person for both East and West sides or £6 each just for the eastern section. You cannot pay for just the West on its own, which I found a little strange.

Thanks Peter! Highgate is a place thats been on my list of places to visit for such a long time. I wouldn't say it disappointed as there is so much history there. But we just timed it wrong. It rained so much before we got there that many paths had been closed to the public. We have a follow-up video coming in just over a week, where I talk more about the visit, as well as show some more famous headstones I didnt show in this video.

We were talking off camera and on the way up to the cemetery we mentioned both the east and west sides. I can only think it was in my head when I was talking into the camera. I havent heard of Sheila but will look her name up this evening.

I once met actress Sheila Gish as a young TV researcher on a chat show she guested on. A charming, warm and kind-hearted lady. Tragically she was diagnosed with a rare form of facial skin cancer in her late 50s, which robbed her of an eye, before it took her life at 62. She continued to act, and took a celebrated theatrical starring role onstage - wearing an eye patch - to great acclaim. What a woman! I met Shelia Gish in the early 'nineties, at the height of her talent and sex appeal. She was unforgettable, and irresistible. I didn't think it possible she could rise even higher in my estimation. But the fact she picked herself up after such a devastating diagnosis and disfigurement, and stride into the spotlight once more to rave reviews, blew my mind. She was so much more than just an (extraordinarily) pretty face - she had heart and soul, and the best qualities, of the best human beings. She was tiny in stature, but had the spirit of a lion. In short, she was a STAR. Immense respect to that wonderful lady.

We sort of killed two bird with one stone as we travelled with our daughter down to London to see her off for the weekend. We purchased train tickets way in advance as it's much cheaper than way for a return ticket. Plus it's just a two hour trip which is brilliant. If you ever get the chance, please don't, you won't regret the trip, the adventure and obviously the cemetery.

We both love our horror movies, perhaps more than any other genre. I dont know why, but we love checking out the older ones more than the recent ones.

I think he was also in a three musketeers movie if my memory serves me right? He was talented for sure 😀

Hi Ricky, thanks for watching. We were going to cover the Highgate Vampire story, that was in the works before we set off. But after recording the Camden Ripper prior to walking over to Highgate, and then seeing how busy the Cemetery was, we decided to hold back on the Vampire story for another visit. I know our video doesnt show that many people walking around, but we tried to film during areas when it was all clear. A lot of the famous graves had dozens of people all hanging around it was hard to film most of them. As for the filming locations, I never knew Tales from the Crypt and its titles were filmed there! I absolutely loved that tv series, so thanks for mentioning that.

We actually record Jean Simmons grave but too many people were stood near us and at times blocking our way so we decided to leave that out. We tried to do this video when we had moments to ourselves but we do have plans to return in the summer and hopefully do another, but more in depth.

The one thing that scares myself is if I think, when we die, is that it? I mean, is it eternal darkness and we never see loved ones ever again? Like we never existed? I know this sounds very bleak and dark, but that's the one thing that scares me when I think about it.

Thanks for watching. We also met Bob, but whilst on holiday over in Florida. He was promoting the Super Mario brothers movie he starred in at the time. I took a photo of him sat in a directors chair, but I didnt realise at the time the camera strap had covered some of the lense. Basically, I ruined the photo as half of his head was blurred out. Gutted to say the least!

Hi, yes it's him 😁 I said exactly the same when watching it back just after Christmas. If forgotten he was in that movie.

It costs £10 per person, so not cheap. But this gets you into both the Eastern and Western sides of the cemetery. If you pay £6, this only allows entry into the Eastern section.

We have actually spoken about visiting cemeteries over in the states. We do have a trip planned over in Orlando this year, so we may try to work something out in that area. But we've seen loads of videos on Hollywood Cemetery and to visit there would be an absolute bucket list addition for sure.

@@DaysofHorror you should really try to go. It has the graves of 2 US Presidents,6goverenors of the state of Virginia and over 10,000 graves of Confederate soldiers, including Gen. George Pickett, Jeb Stuart and of course Jefferson Davis and family. They have a walking tour and they used to have a driving one(don't know if they still do, you ride in a little tour bus). You get to see some wildlife (they used to have a magnificent male deer that would roam around the cemetery called the Hollywood Cemetery buck , unfortunately he was shot and killed recently, the guy who they think did it has been arrested) I have some relatives buried there. Too bad that you didn't get to see the statues on Monument avenue,one of them was actually the gentleman's grave (Gen.A.P. Hill) , but because they were from the Confederate side of the US Civil War,they were considered "racist and torn down".

I remember seeing that grave when I was much younger and when passing through St. James. But, when we looked last year, we just couldn't find it from where I think I remember seeing it. It's something to look into, so I'll do that this week.

He sounds a relatively famous man I would presume, wealthy at that. Thanks for commenting on him as, just like many others in the graveyard, I don't know anything about the lives of those interred. I really need to do more research before we travel back down to Highgate again this year.

Highgate is a fantastic cemetery. One we are definately planning on going back to.

I don't think from memory that Ian Holmes is shown on the map. This could be because no one is allowed to enter that side of a gate he is buried on. Saying that, you can easily see his headstone without any obstructions. His grave is very close to George. Where George is on the corner of the pathway, and if you walk down a path on your left, about 100 meters at a guess, you will see a gate with a no entry sign on. This will be on your right hand side. Walk to the gate and Ian is there right in front.

Its a story I think I need to research as I just dont know anything about the man. I'd heard his name so many times before we went to Highgate, but I just didnt read into him. Thanks for commenting, and I defo need to look into him more.

I really should have done more homework on Highgate before we visited. But our intention was to film a separate video, that of the Camden Ripper murder (which we did film) and I spent longer looking into that than I did of the cemetery 🫤

The west side was a lot older than the east from what we saw. More Victorian burials in that section which I found the more interesting. Just a pity a lot of areas had been closed off due to how wet it was that day.

When walking around, I actually said I wonder if anything paranormal possibly goes on there. I know a few years back there were tales of a 'Vampire' lurking around, known as the Highgate Vampire. I was going to do a video on that. Now I wish I had 😅

Unfortunately no, we didnt see his grave. I didnt even know he is buried there until now.

His talking about celebrities (of which there are many at Highgate). Carl Marx? Nope. Old news. Pilgrimage site for some, but the cemetery is FAR richer than drawing attention to a single monument. It is a phenomenal place and one of my all time favourite places to visit. Highly recommended.

It certainly isn't cheap, especially when there are two or more of you visiting.

Hi Paul, I've seen videos of people walking over graves and in some places there is no option but to do so, if you want to see others graves I mean. Is it disrespectful? I'm not sure nowadays as I have spoken to plenty of caretakers in graveyards and they all say the same - it's not disrespectful. So I don't know. Disrespectful or not, I'm not so sure.
