You're not nutz! One of the books I have, The Hilton Head Metabolism Diet, almost 30 yrs old/1984 ...no kidding... said to go for a walk 20 to 30 minutes after you eat. If I remember right, the way they term it is, that it doubles the thermic effect. It could possibly be another book. It's been a while. It sure makes sense, bc sometimes, like tonight, I ate out and before going in a store to get some Bodyarmor, I was looking at Facebook for a few minutes... and I nodded off sitting in my car. Lol!! I think it has something to do with digestion or blood sugar levels. But I didn't get enough sleep last night either... so there's that. 🤩

Growing up,I recall that every evening, weather permitting of course, after we ate dinner we always went for a family walk. As a kid, just seemed like it was family time but I do recall that that was a built-in activity that we did and it was just common practice pretty much for everyone back then. My grandma called it "letting your food settle." I miss her. All of my grandparents lived to upper 80s and 90s and my great-grandmother 113. 🥰

At Christmas my blood sugar was amazing which seems absolutely insane. I am keto carnivore and I made some christmas treats that don't raise my blood sugar. What I also noticed that my blood sugar was going down because I was spending a lot of time cooking/baking for Christmas. So it makes sense that walking after a meal would lower your blood sugar. I'm so excited to get the results of my HBa1C.

Anything that lowers insuline response. Glucose level does not always indicate a low level of insuline. Some hacks spike insuline to get low glucose. Walking however make muscle use glucose instead of the insuline spikes.

I haven't even watched the video yet but I hope you're going to suggest exercise, even light exercise. I'm off all diabetes meds and it's as simple as picking up some 5 lb dumbbells after I eat. Gotta use the sugar and muscles use lots of it. Walking. I wear a dexcom and I have lowered my blood sugar 10 points in 10 minutes of walking. I am kind of an extreme case and it may indeed be something medical in my case, but if food gives me all this excess energy, idk about any other diabetics, but it feels kinda panicky and hyper energy. Use it. It will drop so much faster than just sitting there being anxious as the sugar works it's way through. I have legit ADHD but sometimes the bouncy legs and rocking body are enough to get my blood sugar down. Yes this is dangerous tbh and I have to be careful not to go anywhere without sugar because the lows don't feel any better than the highs, worse in fact. 🙄 -she says, hoping not to vom currently.

This is somewhat different from what I have always been told, due to digestive issues. "Don't move too much after a meal because it will move the blood away from the stomach and into the limbs (or elsewhere) and that will inhibit good digestion." Is this theory debunked?

Just walk :) It's particularly helpful for stabilising blood sugar after a meal but you will benefit from walking fasted in the morning too. The soleus muscle is in the calf and uses blood sugar rather than stored glycogen so will help to lower your glucose levels. It's used when walking but if you want to learn more just look up soleus push up, I'm sure Mike has done a video on it

Is it true that the only way to lower insulin resistance is through the use of lifting weights? I use a treadmill at the gym while having a trainer with me and the trainer gives me the impression that walking doesn’t have the same benefits as lifting weights regarding insulin resistance. Maybe I am just confused
@gordonsmith3324
@gordonsmith3324 Жыл бұрын
Insulin resistance is normally the result of excessive carbohydrate ingestion particularly from processed sugar and processed food. Lifting weights does help because, as Mike states, most of the glucose you consume is used by the muscles. The better solution, other than just lifting weight, is to modify your diet, lift weights, and keep the easy to moderately difficult treadmill walking. Why all three? Because the body is a complex system and they are all interrelated. Checkout Mike's video library here on KZfaq because he talks about this pretty frequently.
