The Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force Steel Orchestra playing Highland Cathedral during the 2023 Crieff Gathering and Highland Games. These were held on Sunday 20th August 2023 at Market Park in Crieff, Perthshire, Scotland. Highland Cathedral is a popular tune written for bagpipes.
The Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force Steel Orchestra were performing at the 2023 Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo in Scotland and were special guests at the Crieff Highland Games. The band has its roots in British traditions for military bands, but uses unconventional instruments such as steelpans and other native Trinidadian instruments. The 40 member band is currently the only military steel band in the world and brings a carnival atmosphere with their performances.
The first Crieff Highland Gathering was in 1870 and the Games continue to be the major annual local and tourist attraction in the area. Around 6000 people attend this wonderful day, which includes a full programme of traditional Highland games competitions, individual and massed Pipe Band displays, special attractions including visiting International acts from the Edinburgh Military Tattoo and top class traditional music in the Aldi Arena area of the Park.
