my brother handed me an old strap clamp. I couldn't figure out where the strap started, how to tighten it, how to loosen, how to get the enormous strap back into the small frame. A confusing, dirty, snaking mess... I gave it the toss. I just ordered one of these clamps. Looks like the right idea.

You could also use the band clamp to make the laminated form instead of using the expensive and heavy bar clamps. Put the ban around the stack of forms and then drive in pairs of wooden wedges to put on the pressure.

Great review, but were do you buy extra swivel pads, for 6 or 8 sided frames. Cannot find on Amazon

Just got mine out of the box and it's extremely difficult to wind back up. The internal tension is set so high that turning the tiny crank becomes too difficult while also managing any type of balance with a project. There should be a way to loosen that tension in order to #1 pull out the extra length of strap needed and #2 wind it back up. Given the needs of this tool and these issues, I can't recommend it. For use once a year or something like that, sure. But for regular workshop use... I'm returning it. I'll go back to my large rubber band straps.

When you first fit the handle, be sure not to tighten the screw too much, or that will stiffen the winding mechanism.

Bought a different model because it was variable too but it doesn't work that way. How about instructions for the VAS400 model which is less expensive.

Ed Scent Thank you for the response. Unfortunately I purchased this at The Home Depot. I just cannot get it to turn. Chalk it up to experience. No more Bessey Clamps for me.

I'm a novice wood worker and this clamp is easy and works well . I actually just bought another one couple minutes ago for a shelf project
