You can use the mill for longer logs by just removing the back locking bracket and put some screws through the fence holes. I have a home made unit, not as nice as this, that I routinely resaw 4 ft logs on. My limit of being able to lift and control the weight is the constraining factor at that length. But I have done up to 10" diameter by 4 ft. cherry and spalted maple on it.

Also, i am looking for Ideas about what to do with my log. A neighbor cut down a cherry tree and i got a really nice log that is about 36" long and about 50" round at largest point and 45" at its narrowest. I am looking for ideas about might i might do with this great piece of wood. Any advice would be welcome. It has been siting in my garage for over a year drying.

It's a good point about blade drift and following the miter slot. However for applications like these (rough sawing) - it's not a big deal in reality. The cut won't be as smooth if your blade drift isn't following the miter slot exactly, but for slicing up a log, that's not really a problem.

Most of us who are looking to saw up hardwood want to cut Crotches and Burls. I'm no sure if this will handle a larger piece.

Love the concept and looks like an easy way to go for short logs. However I couldn't help but notice one flaw in the design. That being that you're stuck with having to follow the path of the miter slot which, as I just read in the great set-up instructions that come with the mighty "wood Slicer" band saw blades is a no-no. (unless you're really lucky and the blade happens to be tracking perfectly parallel to it!) Watch Morton's video on the Wood Slicer bandsaw blades.....

The price as of June 21st, 2013 is $139.99. As manufacturers change their prices we have to adjust as well though, so for the most current pricing, click the link for the log mill product page in the video description!

I use a 3tooth per inch blade !! It walks through ANY wood ! They are custom made at HAWK BLADES in Houston,TeXaS !!! Mike there sends all over the World !! Any size you pick the teeth !! ALSO Mike will TT(Talk To) you n discuss your blade needs or concerns ! I use that blade cause I am going to plane the boards any ! This DEMO got smooth boards but very slow cutting the logs ! My 18”Steel City saw has never bogged down ! NOT PUTTING down this presentation !!! At all ! BUT I can saws away ! 🙏🏼🙏🏼❤️❤️👍🏼🖖🏼🖖🏼🖖🏼🖖🏼

What is the brand and model of the band saw used in this demonstration? The saw has a very wide throat.

I noticed that you made 2 cuts and got your fence can you cut all the slabs with the Carter Bandsaw Jig?
@dangermartin69
@dangermartin69 4 жыл бұрын
Sure you can. The problem is that you would have to move the fence on the jig over after every cut, and your pieces would all end up different thickness.

TastyCritters you should look into wood mousture meters to see how much moisture you have to start with and then go from there.

It's common for people to focus on milling lumber and ignore what it takes for proper drying, ending up with "highly valuable" firewood. "Curing" is not relevant here; drying is. Lots of good books on the subject or air- and kiln-drying. Vacuum kilns are "state-of-the-art"; see www.pcspecialties.com/ re drying difficult & valuable wood, and discussions on fora like forestryforum.com/ IOW, it's sure as hell been addressed. You're welcome.

Mine doesn't work very well. I may be doing something wrong, but halfway through a log, the blade binds and veers off to one side and drags down the motor and if I were to continue, would either brake the blade or stall or burn up the motor. I have set the blade drift correctlly so that is not the issue.
