So many fantastic books on your recommendation list! On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous is one of my all time favorites! So good. Never Let Me Go is another favorite. Goddess of The River is one I’m really looking forward to. If you want something lighter to break up your reading, I recently finished Dragonfruit which is a fun fantasy. The author, Makiia Lucier, is from Guam.

Good luck with finals Sierra! I'm so glad I don't have exams anymore! I absolutely loved Lonely Castle In The Mirror, and Kim Jiyoung Born In 1982. Really liked before the coffee gets cold. Sri Lanka - I've just finished Brotherless Night - it will break your heart but I think you'd like it. I'd also recommend A Fine Balance by Rohinton Mistry - set in India - I adore that book 😊

Love the recommendations so many books i have loved were mentioned. Would highly recommend Story of Your Life and Others by Ted Chiang. It's an incredibly fascinating and mind altering collection of short stories. The titular story actually has a movie adaptation, Arrival, which is stunning as well. There wasn't a single story that didn't blow me away!!

Cool to see a book about Hawai'i from a Japanese American experience. Wanted to recommend a book called Sharks in the Time of Saviors by Hawai'ian author Kawai Strong Washburn. Its on my tbr so I can't totally vouch for it but its so rare that Pacific Islander authors ever make a list so I had to mention it. There's some magical realism and I believe some Hawai'ian mythology, and well Goodreads has a good blurb on what the book is about for more info.

Love the international recommandations! I know you've done a "books by black authors" video but would you consider doing one about african literature specifically? I love discovering authors from different continents (I'm from France). For an other book by a Sri Lankan author, I recommand Funny boy, by Shyam Selvadurai, an autobiographical novel about a gay man growing up in Sri Lanka in the 1980s. I have not read it yet, but I have heard great things about it and I think it will be my next read. I really liked Pachinko and am very intrigued by Beasts of a little land by Juhea Kim. Its paperback version just came out in France so I am thinkng of buying it soon. Always love your vibe, keep it up :)

I read Kim Jiyoung in April. Having been born in 1957, I see societal similarities to the 1960/1970's in the US Not as much male centered, resource-wise The themes of the book are universal

If you want other Sri Lankan literature Brotherless Night by V. V. Ganeshananthan, it is shortlisted for both the Women's Prize and Carol Shields Prize right now and is getting rave reviews. I thought it was a little slow to start but once I got into it. It was amazing and I learned so much!

I've just started Tomb Sweeping by Alexandra Chang. It's a collection of short stories that she says employs a storytelling technique called kishontenketsu. It's a Japanese four part structure used in classical & contemporay narration.

My favorite author of Asian heritage is Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni.
