@@Mischgi falck does have a very interesting game though, but fan must have trained specifically to counter those forehand short pips since mattias was making all kinds of mistakes with his forehand attacks. I think against short pips you want a lot of spin and very low to the net, which fan did to perfection, causing falck to be unable to add the power he needed since he was always having to hit the ball from below the net

Not really. If you check historical record regarding which non Chinese player beat Fan after he is over 17, you can find these: Harimoto, Hugo Calderano and Dima. Harimoto was very fast at that time, he even beat Ma Long. Hugo and Dima have very powerful two side loop that can suppress Fan, close to table and away from the table. When Fan commented the match he lost to Hugo, he said the loop from Hugo is very powerful and consistent.

@ken ji Very well said. I also like his gentleman like when he won, not like many players yellowing when they won, or doing some very exaggerated gesture. I understand they were very emotional when they won. this make FZD more humble n unique.

absolutly correct, short pips needs ball hit at highest point.. and far away back is probably not good..

@@phamster18 also the whole advatage of short pips is the extra speed when close to the table, but away from the table the spin is what causes the kick on the table, not the initial speed, so the entire advantage of the pips is lost away from the table. Fan was completely taking advantage of falcks forehand short pips, falck was barely able to get a proper attack in with them! Fan spins the ball very low to the net, making it extremely difficult for falck to hit at the highest point, and fan would pin him in the backhand a lot before sending one to falcks wide forehand without warning, never giving falck time to adjust. and in the short game fan would pin falck in the forehand, where the pips just can't get the grip on the ball needed to get a strong open up. and the long push to forehand caused many mistakes on falcks side as well, because of the same reason.
