I watched fed practice just before the aussie open and I thought he looked patchy (he was practicing against alexander funny enough) and then he just wins that grand slam like he's 25 not 35 lol it was great!

Absolutely stunning performance. Coming into this match he was playing well but not quite to the standards he set in the first quarter of the year. But Federer steps up to the occasion. The players he played before the final were all average players so his best wasnt required to beat them. Today he needed his best as Zverev is a brilliant player who will win a lot of tournaments in the future. I thought today would be a tough match for Fed but he played out of his mind. The strategy and genius he showed in this match is what makes him the great champion that he is. His level never dropped at all and he dominated from start to finish. The first game of the match, that return game from Federer has to be one of the best in 2017 and that set the tone for the rest of the match. Federer is a great frontrunner and once he is in the lead, he plays free flow and it is an absolute treat to watch that brand of tennis. I will miss him a lot when he decides to retire from tennis. I hope he stays for a few more years.

It could be said about both him and Nadal that steroid are in place... but if you think about it, Tennis itself has changed a lot from what it used to be. Players nowadays are much more prepared in terms of body conditioning. As long as they don't suffer injuries, they should be able to play for longer times compared to before. If you think about it it's not that crazy, you can tell he's slower than before (even does not chase some rallies), like Yusuf Luhar stated, he knows how to maintain his body throughout a match. I think what helps him a lot is his effortless swing... he doesn't use a ton of wrist for both forehand and backhand. His footwork is amazing as well. If he was using steroid by the way, you'd probably see him getting into injuries more often. Just my two cents.

Great match from fed!! Was pretty apprehensive about how it was going to go, seemed somewhat nervy and patchy in his previous matches, especially against Khachanov. But today he played peRFect grass court tennis; great attacking tennis juxtaposed with great variations and old-school dropshots. He surely put on a masterclass, looking forward to how he plays in Wimbledon. Hope he can translate this scintillating form there!

This reminded me of the way Federer played Roddick in the old days! He brought Zverev in, moved him up and down, and sliced and diced. Zverev is a little too one-dimensional, especially compared to the Maestro
@vincenttran5920
@vincenttran5920 7 жыл бұрын
but on any other surface the slice wouldn't have worked so well, good thing is grass, and federer was smart to keep using it, i figured he was gonna try to drive the BH and rally with zrevev, that would have been a mistake

@andreten4780
@andreten4780 7 жыл бұрын
if federer was to play zverev on hardcourts i reckon he would hit solid top spin shots deep down the middle, to find the zverev backhand then go crosscourt to his backhand, to get zverev snatching on the backhand wing. he did that today with floating slices down the middle, which got zverev snatching on the grass. this was solid tactical work from ljubicic i guess. why i emphasize hitting to the middle first up because if he tries to go corner to corner with zverev, zverev will find his range and pull federer off the court.

Kira - And yet, Rafa made it to the final at those tournaments -- AO, IW, and Miama -- which means Rafa is playing REALLY well on the fast courts. And we know Rafa is sky high with confidence after another GS win. Don't kid yourself, Rafa could beat Fed on grass. It's certainly possible. Rafa beat Fed in a Wimbledon final before.

raymuea -- you're right, this is NOT a weak era. When you have 3 12+ Grand Slam winners still in competitive form, still in the top 5, all competing against one another -- and ALL three of these players have been acknowledged by legends (McEnroe, Sampras, Borg, Agassi, etc.) as some of the most talented and athletic to ever pick up a racket. And 2 out of 3 of these players are 30+ years of age? Beating players in their teens like a hot knife cuts through butter? And we're STILL talking about these players as favorites to win Wimbledon, the same players we were talking about in 2007??? That AIN'T a weak era. Hmm... maybe it's the strongest era of men's tennis??? Just sayin'...

Right off the bat, we see a fair amount of trickery and guile -- fastball to change-up. Fed is incredibly powerful, but it's a tall order for him to blast Zverev off the court. My god, Fed is playing so well. Could we have Rafa and Fed in the final of Wimbledon? Good lord, if the draw stacks up, we could.

Federer's win against Zverev gets his 9th Halle Open title but at the same time he took and holds the record for most singles titles 18 at ATP 500 series. Federer ATP Tournaments Career Achievements Grand Slam - 18 holds the record for most singles titles ATP Finals - 6 holds the record for most singles titles ATP Masters 1000 series - 26 only 4 shy away for most singles titles 30 holds the record by Nadal and Novak. Grass courts never held at this series so unfortunate for Federer but still he manage to grab more titles as close as the current record holders. Imagine if grass court exist at 1000 tournaments no doubt he will dominate more than he did and also holds the Masters records easily. Hopefully he will win another title in Cincinnati in August. ATP 500 series - 18 holds the record for most singles titles ATP 250 series - 24 and only 2 shy away for most singles titles 26 currently holds the record by Thomas Muster. ATP Rankings - holds the record for 237 consecutive weeks and a record total of 302 weeks at the No. 1 spot. Federer's resume clearly more than enough he will be called the greatest tennis player of all time.

Took him 52 minutes to dispatch a kid that is 14 years his junior...unbelievable. Fed is the man - hope this translates into a good showing at Wimbledon. If he wins Wimbledon, that would be one of the greatest victories for a man in tennis...but I said the samething when he won the Australian Open.

2017 Federer: Laver Cup: 2W 1L, then won AO Dubai: 1W 1L, then won Miami and IW Sttutgart: 0W, 1L, then Halle... (by the logic he should now proceed to win Wimbledon and Canada)

Sascha occasionally trains and practices with the Fed. Zverev is one of the new good guys in tennis with a lot of potentials. i hope he will stay level headed unlike the arrogant young ones that we see around. I gues Thiem and Zverev and the Russian Khachanov are the future and I hope they carry the elegance and sportsmanship that Fed brought to the game. I can actually see the Fed becoming Sascha's coach in the future.

He does seem to favour him, taking him to dinners and practices, clearly he sees greatness in Sascha, which is a good thing. Maybe the young one even reminds him of him? Can you imagine Sascha in a few years with Roger as a coach? My god!

It would be great btw, so much respect for Zverev brothers, they show great passion for the game and knows how to trick top players, Sacha has more potential ofc with his combo of big serve and solid groundstrokes, his baseline game reminds me a little of young safin, but has to improve his deffensive game and quickness to aproach the net, in that safin was great, such a talent but lack of compromise sometimes and too hot headed, and sacha has less talent overall but much more strong mentally and commitment to the game
