I *LOVE LOVE LOVE* how you did Ella’s scat *note for note* in the middle, but you also put your own twist on the song with the Latin rhythm. I wish Ella was still here to listen; I think she would be extremely impressed.

Boy, it'd be so great to hear this before all the computer audio "correction". So many sharp corners on the production leave me feeling like there's something you don't like about the way vocal groups, just...sing...together. I know, everybody does it. It's just us old folks, but to me, this is the vocal equivalent of Bro Country.
@glowco.7173 жыл бұрын
I think in the modern day, Vocal editing/correction is a necessary step in everything but live recordings, if you want to compete with those who are using it. I'm super into Barbershop, and believe me, I get where you're coming from. When you get that perfectly ringing chord on a tag and the overtones show up there's nothing in the world like that sound, and computers haven't gotten there yet to reproduce it because of the precise tuning of Barbershop music. However, because of that, nobody in barbershop is using pitch correction, so they're all on the same playing field. It's different in the majority of modern music styles and I consider vocal jazz relatively modern. I'm sure that the older guys would've done that type of Vocal editing too if it had been around and commonly used when they were young, or else they likely would have been less popular than people who did. However, there's a tasteful way to do it, and I think Highline was pretty good about keeping it tasteful in this recording. Lumping the tasteful and non-tasteful recordings together is just unreasonable. When it's tasteful, I think you're better off enjoying the music than actively listening for the production involved!
