Your perspective on playing RPGs with friends vs strangers is really interesting! I’ve been playing RPGs with many of the same people for over twenty years, and haven’t played with a group of total strangers in a long time. Within the group of friends, there is a great deal of trust and you know the type of role play each person enjoys. It’s comfortable and fun. With strangers I found it often awkward, but also surprising and unique. Some of my best weird game stories come from these experiences, that never would have happened in my regular group.

I appreciate that! I have yet to play with friends which I’m absolutely looking forward too. That is so cool the group you’ve been playing with has been for over 20 years. I want to get there ☺️ so far none of my friends have been interested in playing.

Cool! I love seeing your new to the hobby perspective. I'd love to see your solo play through. I've run this once online and had fun. The players are looking forward to more. I'm also interested in Liminal Horror. It's based on Cairn but is contemporary horror kind of like Call of Cthulhu. I'm hoping to run a Halloween one shot using it.

Cairn is such a neat system to run - especially solo. With very little rules overhead, you really get to concentrate on the story aspects of your session. That said. This game is stupid deadly. So I don't know what happens to characters when they live beyond a few encounters. I hope you have better luck!

I love Cairn. I initially started out trying to get back into D&D after over 30 years away but I don't have the time to play with others. I started looking into solo stuff and Cairn came up and it has been a godsend. Since then, I've watched a few other youtubers who focus on solo content and learned that you can solo almost any rpg but some have way more rules.

I am new to Cairn but so far I've loved it. So open system, applicable for any setting. Not being into elves and such, it is perfect for mixing WWIII/post-apocalyptic books. Atomic Highway and The Coming supplement for MYFAROG come to mind.

It's a great video and I found it interesting to get someone new's perspective on a game. I haven't run Cairn myself but I tried soloing Runecairn, a game derived from Cairn, and it was quite interesting. Side note: It might just be a me thing, but I found the pulsating logo quite distracting.

Hi, new subscriber here! Thank you for covering Cairn. This game grows to be one of my favorite system to play. I would love to see you play it, either in group or solo. Talk about solo, the Barrow Delver supplement is a bonafide oracle for playing Cairn solo but in my opinion, it's barebone, just enough. I prefer using other oracles for solo play. But I would love to see Barrow Delver used in actual play, maybe it's not as barebone as I thought, who knows! I personally love Cairn's simplicity and the GM and player principles is useful to learn, even when you're running / playing other games (even though there is sth that doesn't click with me but it's just a little nitpick). And the d20 roll-under-system make it so much easier for skill checks and the roll straight to damage on attack, while gritty and deadly, makes the combat much faster. Makes you think twice about handling an encounter, especially against the enemies. The 2nd edition of this game is WIP and it's gonna be backwards compatible with the 1st edition.

Thank you for subscribing & watching!!!! I just saw recently Cairn has a 2nd edition. I absolutely love Cairn & I am definitely looking forward to running this. I will be doing a video soon running cairn solo. Not sure if I’m sure going to upload a video or run thru it live yet. If you have any other awesome games like Cairn for me to look into let me know ☺️ So far for OSR, I have Cairn, white box, & Basic fantasy. I love all 3 so far but Cairn is at my top. Someone suggested Iron Falcon which is on my list to grab when I can.

I agree agree about the barrow delver. I ended up using different oracles for it. One of my favorite things about it is that it makes you think twice about an encounter & of course how simple and easy things are to pick up and apply.

Cairn, another really interesting OSR game I've yet to experience (there's so much good stuff, creativity in the space). Hearing about your enthusiasm and early gaming experiences is precious! So happy to hear about your discovery of an in person group and what the experience was like. I hope you make new friends and get to play with your existing friends and family! Nothing compares to that. I've sadly lost contact with the friend I started my rpg journey playing BECMI D&D on the living room floor in my childhood home in the late 80's. Nonetheless my longest friendships are with people I befriended around rpgs still getting together to play and I'm especially lucky to share this hobby with my wife I introduced to rpgs over 20 years ago. There are still new experiences to be had, more to learn about how I want to GM etc. Anyways, happy travels on the paths fantastical!

I appreciate that. I’m looking forward to the day I can play with friends or family. I can only imagine how awesome of a feeling & fun that will be. I’m hoping I can make some connections thru the games I’ve been playing. Wow that’s sooo cool playing with your wife. My wife wants to play with me, not the easiest with our toddler around but we plan on making time so she can finally play a game with me. She sits & watches RPG videos with me & listens to me talk about them which I really appreciate. Being a GM has been such a really cool experience I plan on sharing in a video soon.

@@LegendsDiceCafe Awesome! Looking forward to hearing more and I hope you can get into gaming with your wife! With my wife we usually sit and play some of the time and some of the time my wife is doing other stuff nearby like cooking at the same time as we play 😄 She doesn't like sitting still for too long anyway. Sometimes we continue playing while we're walking our dog as well. It's become super flexible and quite spontaneous.

Thanks for the flip through. I like some of the philosophy of Cairn but I think it's overpriced for the length. The free version sounds like a better option to print at home for yourself, friends, and family. In the same price range, White Box: Fantastic Medieval Adventure Game is a much better system. It's my favourite Original D&D retro-clone.
