The animation is actually by Dutch animator and film director Michaël Dudok de Wit. He won the Oscar for best short animation with this in 2000!

How sad, how very very sad. Makes me think of all the war refugees fleeing their countries, but also parents working in far away countries so they can feed their children in their home country and leaving loved ones behind. 🌷

I remember crying my eyeballs out when i was 6/7 while watching the original animation on VietNamese national television in the 2000s. Then i realize this masterpiece still hits like a train 20 years later, especially with the music from Thuy Chi. Thank you for bringing this memories back.

Thực ra thì hình ảnh trong bài hát được lấy từ bộ phim hoạt hình kinh điển "Father and Daughter" của Michael Dudok de Wit đã từng đoạt giải Oscar năm 2020 cho phim ngắn xuất sắc nhất. Mình muốn diễn giải một chút ý nghĩa của bộ phim đó theo ý kiến cá nhân của mình thôi, vì ai cũng có thể có những suy nghĩ và cảm nhận khác nhau đối với bộ phim. Bộ phim bắt đầu bằng cảnh hai cha con cùng đạp xe trên một con đường vắng, có những đồng cỏ bát ngát, có những hàng cây bên đường để đi đến một bến thuyền. Người cha tạm biệt con gái rồi xuống bến, nơi đó đã neo sẵn một con thuyền. Trước khi lên thuyền, người cha không kìm được lòng và một lần nữa chạy lên để ôm lấy con gái... một lần cuối. Sau đó người cha lên thuyền và rời đi. Đoạn này khi ban đầu mình xem mình cũng nghĩ chỉ là người cha đi xa. Nhưng rồi sau mới hiểu, đây chính là hình ảnh ẩn dụ của lúc sinh ly tử biệt. Người cha đã qua đời, cảm xúc của ông trước khi mất đó là được ôm lấy con gái một lần cuối cùng... rồi ra đi... Sau đó thì như chúng ta đã thấy người con gái lớn lên và vẫn luôn quay lại nơi bến thuyền đó, theo đúng con đường ngày xưa cha và cô đi. Con đường là đại diện cho cuộc đời, cũng là thời gian, cũng là mỗi ngày. Đời người rồi ai cũng sẽ trải qua những lúc khó khăn như khi lên dốc, những lúc trống trải và rồi lại đến bến thuyền. Nếu mọi người xem và để ý thì mỗi khi cô con gái đạp xe đến bến thuyền thường sẽ có một người phụ nữ nữa đi trên đường, có thể cùng chiều, có thể ngược chiều, nhưng độ tuổi thường trái ngược với cô con gái (khi cô còn nhỏ thì gặp một người phụ nữ già, và khi cô đã già thì lại gặp đứa bé gái nhỏ). Cá nhân mình nghĩ đây là một hình ảnh nghệ thuật khá là hay khi cô như được gặp mình trong quá khứ và tương lai. Đứa nhỏ rồi sẽ lớn lên và già đi, để rồi nhớ lại những ngày thơ bé. Rồi khi cô con gái bé nhỏ năm nào qua năm tháng đã thành một bà lão già. Sông biển nay đã hóa thành đồng cỏ, nhưng nỗi nhớ cha vẫn chưa khi nào nguôi. Cô quyết định băng qua cánh đồng cỏ, trước kia là sông biển để đến với cha. Giữa cánh đồng là một chiếc thuyền mắc cạn. Cô nằm lên chiếc thuyền và nghỉ một lát. Đó là ẩn dụ về lúc cô qua đời. Để rồi sau đó linh hồn cô trẻ lại theo mỗi bước đi và gặp lại người cha đã khuất, vẫn luôn chờ cô nơi đó. Bến thuyền là khoảnh khắc ra đi, con thuyền là phương tiện đưa linh hồn người đã khuất. Dù bộ phim và bài hát buồn nhưng đó là một cái kết có hậu và đó là cuộc sống. Đúng là "Xem là Rơi Nước Mắt"....
