As a fellow veteran can I just say you are the first reactor to get the real story depicted here. Thank you.

I don't think you realised that it was Floor Jansen who sang the outro at the end credits. She is of course the wife of Hannes!! ( de drummer van Sabaton ).

I said it before you migrated this over and I'll say it again. You gave this the perspective of somebody who's been there and done that. Not a lot of reacters do or can. Thanks very much for getting it and sharing it. If soldiers in one if the most brutal wars in history could set aside their differences why can't we? Thank you for this reaction, and your service!

Also congrats on letting the credits play. As others have said that's the one and only Floor Jansen singing.

You were actually correct. A lot of soldiers in the western front had a lot of trouble fighting the next day. Because they realised the soldiers they were fighting were not the monsters they were made out to be and they actually had way more in common with them than not.

maybe y already know this info: This is a true event that occurred e occurred on and around Christmas Day 1914, when both side stop the sounds of rifles and shells exploding faded, in a number of places along the Western Front during World War I. In favor of holiday celebrations, during the unofficial ceasefire, soldiers on both sides of the conflict emerged from the trenches and shared gestures of goodwill. They share foods, wine, picture, cloaks, their life before the war and burry the fallen soldier. And like in the MV has showed, some where on the frontline even have a small football match. The saddest part is they end up shooting at each other in the next morning :((

and later in the war all soldiers which were there become order to move to very dangerous parts of frontline with high deathrate. Because the Leadership doesn´t want such situations.

The valkyries that came to collect the souls that day, looked in amazement, that there where so few to collect. They then sang a song in stead. (cue: Floor Jansen: 'Aha! ah aha ahaha ahahaha.. aha a ha aha.. ha!')

Had a neighbor when I was very young, who lived just down the block. Mr. Bartholomew was a WW1 veteran and had been in battles like Vimy Ridge with the Canadian Army. He smoked a pipe with a stem made from bullet brass from that battle. He said that even then, all those years later, he still saw it all in his memory. What had been seen, could not be unseen. He was a kind and friendly old gent, and I count myself fortunate to have experienced his presence.

reat Reaction, for more on this topic there is a decent movie (2005) "Joyeux Noel" (Merry Christmas) shows the German, French & British (well a Scottish unit) , sadly when word of these events got out many units were punished and relocated to other sections of the line were the fighting was more savage. and then they made sure on holidays they would launch attacks and such. but the war took a turn and got more deadly esp once GAS started to be used in 1915 some soldier tried to repeat the event of 1914 but were shot .

Great reaction man!!! Your take and understanding of the real story, and the conflicted feelings that must have been are greatly appreciated! As to the song itself, well, Sabaton worked some absolute magic on this one, far beyond the visual production value. The thematic elements - with plays on other melodies - are astounding. Each note, sound, and drum hit was obviously carefully considered. Art. Plain and simple.

Late to the party but I only just recently heard this song. Your reacton brought tears to my eyes, because obviouly as a veteran you can relate to this story. Too bad everyday can't be Christmas wherever there is war. I turn this song up so loud when I listen to it because there is so much truth to this story.

A lot of these soldiers didn't go back. They couldn't. They had to be transferred to other battlefields, other units. And armies, from both sides, made sure no other truce happened. And as this was the first year of war, people still had space to join together, the longer the suffering, the less they could. At least this is what I understand. Still, a beautiful time in a painful but Great War.

Sir your reaction to Christmas Truce was incredible and very moving. I love listening to military veterans in my country England. But to hear you talking about being in the American military and you opening up about what you and other veterans saw and know as someone who never served, is very humbling and emotional. I know that you was in the U.S Marines as I have seen many reaction videos on my favourite band Sabaton from many you tubers who react to videos and have there own site. Sir take care of yourself and please stay safe. Much love and respect to you Sir. British Sabaton Fan 💂‍♂️💂‍♂️💂‍♂️💂‍♂️🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇺🇸🇺🇸

This truce wasn't authorized by the military command on either side in fact it was a spontaneous act where the German soldiers took the initiative. After the truce many soldiers on both side refused to go back fighting which is very understandable. However it was far from popular among the leaders and some were even executed for not obeying orders.

I have no experience with war, thankfully, why can't we just talk shit out. Violence doesn't solve anything, never did, never will. And yes, I have respect for the soldiers, and I like to hear the stories and watch the movies. But I don't understand it, I always come back to the question: Why couldn't they talk it out? Naïve I know, sheltered for sure. Just thankful I have never had to experience it for sure
