None, baritone, the featured guest artist. He used to be a full member of VoicePlay but was recruited to sing for the US Navy. He comes back to guest whenever he's on leave. VoicePlay is a five-person group but have been down a permanent member since J left, so they always have a feature on their songs. That person almost always stands or sits in the middle of the group. 3) Geoff (Jeff) Castellucci, BASS but one who can go even higher than you heard him here. Mad range, crazy talented. He has a solo channel with some great stuff on there. 4) Eli (pronounced L.E., rhymes with jelly) Jacobson, high tenor/rock tenor. 5) Cesar (Caesar) de la Rosa, baritone/baritenor, newest member, absolute sweetheart, super talented. They're known as the "theater kids" of acapella because they get big into staging, lighting, sometimes costumes and makeup, just everything presentation. They do whatever inspires them, from Disney to metal to JVKE to classic rock or Johnny Cash. I really recommend their covers of Creep, Seven Nation Army and Nothing Else Matters.

You will not regret being introduced to Voiceplay. Quite different from most acapella groups, they are often very theatrical. They enlist many outside guests to perform with them. J. None is a former member who has joined the Navy and comes back to perform with them when invited. I listen to them as much as I do Home Free because they are both fantastic in very different ways. hj

While Geoff (Jeff) singing the lead is the groups bass, you were absolutely right about the drone - that was coming from Layne, the beatbox and sometimes baritone. Their videos are absolutely wonderful, and yes, they do everything themselves, including the video. They think of each production as an art piece, and it shows.

#voiceplay are, as others already mentioned, the "theatre kids of a cappella", and some people can't forgive them for that. 🙂 I personally love the theatric spin they put into their videos. Even when they seem to not be THAT theatrical (no costumes, no makeups, essential set and lighting...) they do something special with their voices. They don't simply sing, they ACT what they're singing, and they make all covers they do "their own". You could try their cover of Metallica's "Nothing else matters", or Radiohead's "Creep", or Aerosmith's "Dream on", or The White Stripes' "7 Nation Army", you'll always "feel" the original song, yet they make it their own. They're masters at that. 🙂 Subscribed in anticipation for more of their stuff... And Geoff's, which, once you try it, you just won't stay without it 😁. Try his couple songs from "The Hobbit"... First, "Far over the Misty Mountains cold", from "An unexpected journey", and then "I see fire", from "The Desolation of Smaug". Same 4 characters (yes, they're all Geoff), very different songs and arrangement. Or "Jack's lament", from "Nightmare before Christmas"... Totally different. And no "clones" there, although you can hear their voices harmonising in certain points. Or "Rains of Castamere" (from "Game of Thrones"), or "Man of constant sorrow", or "Folsom prison blues"... 😉

Voiceplay not only is a fantastic acapella group, but they do all aspects of their videos themselves. They have their own production company. They do the lighting, the makeup, and the video production. They are so busy producing material that they don't tour the same as Home Free does. They haven't ever toured Europe and it's doubtful that they ever will with their busy schedule. Voiceplay is based in Orlando, Florida. It started with a group of friends in high school. They originally started performing at the theme parks in Orlando. (Many artists start their music careers by performing at theme parks. Austin of Home Free sang at Disney for the Voices of Liberty, a Disney acapella group, after college). The guys at Voiceplay would spend their free time singing together, "playing" with their voices. That is how they came up with the name Voiceplay. Voiceplay was on the fourth season of The Sing-, an acapella competition show, with Home Free. During the show, Voiceplay had a female lead singer, Honey Larochelle. Home Free and Voiceplay became friends during the show. After the show, they did a fun video together called Zombies vs. Hillbillies. Also, Lance Stein of Voiceplay did the arrangement for Home Free's Biuttz Remix. You might like Voiceplay's This is Halloween.

Voiceplay and HomeFree are actually good friends. They were both on the same season of the SingOff! and did the sing off tour together. Geoff, the bass of Voiceplay, credits Tim Foust as teaching him the bass growl technique. Homefree used Geoff's arrangement for Elvira in their video featuring the Oak Ridge Boys and gave him credit at the end of the video. The two groups even colab'd on a fun video on Voiceplay's channel called "Survivor: Zombies vs. Hillbillies" you should check it out. Can't wait to see more Voiceplay! This was one of their Disney videos but they do all genre's and find a way to make each one their own will still paying homage to the original.

#voiceplay VoicePlay are such a spectacular group- you are in for a real treat dropping down this rabbithole! Since you've already gotten the rundown of the members, I figured I'd let you know that the lighting and videography that you were admiring? That's also them. VoicePlay is 100% independent, and as a result, they do 90% of every creative project, from song selection to arrangement (typically done by either Geoff-bass- or Layne-beatboxer-, although Eli- tenor- has been stepping up more recently) to video concept, direction, filming and editing. They do sub out steadycam work (although Layne has been doing that a bit more lately), theatrical makeup or prosthetics and, like all the other a cappella groups, after doing the initial mix on their vocal tracks they send them off to Ed Boyer for the final mix. Eli does the lighting work for nearly all of VoicePlay's videos, as well as some on Geoff's solo channel- more on that in a moment. Layne is co-owner of Pattycake Productions, a video production studio he started with former VoicePlay baritone, Tony Wakim, and that is where VoicePlay shoot a lot of their videos. Circling back to Geoff's solo channel, you will likely start seeing a lot of recommendations to check it out as well, and I have to add my voice to that number. Every single member of VoicePlay is a vocal monster, but Geoff is what I have often referred to as VoicePlay's gateway drug. His unique vocal timbre and massive range is often what catches people's attention, and many folk- myself included- discovered VoicePlay after stumbling upon Geoff's solo cover of Tennessee Ernie Ford's old classic, Sixteen Tons. With a 5 octave range, Geoff is able to multitrack his vocals from tenor all the way down to bass notes that defy comprehension and creates a virtual choir of voices that are all distinct, yet clearly his own. As with VoicePlay, he produces all his own videos and arrangements, and for a fun visual twist, most of the time he clones himself on video so we are treated to four or five Geoffs (sometimes in costume) performing different vocal lines. It's definitely worth your while to venture down this adjacent rabbithole.

They are sometimes known as the theatre kids of a capella, for their more theatrical style of videos. Voiceplay cover many genres - my favourites are their rock covers: Nothing Else Matters - Metallica, In The Air Tonight ( Phil Collins), Seven Nation Army (White Stripes), Dream On (Aerosmith), Creep (Radiohead), Carry on my Wayward son (Kansas), BUT their medleys are amazing too (from Disney to Boy Bands to Queen!) . They are the kings of Halloween because they're so theatrical and they also do all genres in between - as well as Minis (Wellerman has over 1M views already) - my personal favourite is Peaches (Mario - Jack Black) but there is a treasure trove to select from. They do almost everything themselves- being fully independent + their arrangements are second to none. Hope there will be reactions. 🔥

VoicePlay is located in Orlando. All members past and present have worked in Disney, Universal and other theme parks. That shaped the group and you will often find the videos and characters are so much more evolved. They learned the importance of staging, costuming, etc. Check Valhalla Calling for an EPIC version. Geoff Castellucci, the bass, has a range of A0 (growl), B0 (subharmonic, F1 (full chest), his highest note is Bb5 (falsetto). He also does non-acapella video soloes. They are independent so do everything themselves from beginning to end on their videos. Except for intricate make-up, cameras and audio mixing. They even make their own decisions. They are known as both "The Theater Kids of Acapella" and "The Kings of Halloween" because of their love of dressing up and performing. They are based in Orlando Florida. They all used to perform in shows at either Disney World, Universal Studios or both. They still sing at Disney World from time to time. At present there are only 4 of them so they collaborate with various artists for the 5th. So depending on the video/song is who they are featuring. Right now they are in Atlantic City NJ doing a 2 day concert with the group Chicago. Singing on stage with them. Drunken Sailor they did a couple months ago. It is a sea shanty that is hilarious. That's only one of the many genres they have done. They don't limit themselves. Opera, Broadway, game themes, Disney, country, pop, rock, sea shanty, comedy, Halloween, Christmas and the list goes on. Geoff Castellucci, the bass, has his own channel where he sings solo with instruments. He clones himself 3-4 times for harmonies. Each with their own name.... Jeff, Jeoph, Goff and Daryl. Usually in the videos with him but sometimes in the background. Geoff has a 5+ octave range from low bass to tenor. He also has many amazing videos. His latest is "Jack's Lament" from Nightmare Before Christmas. He also has a variety of genres but most are older folk songs.... Ain't No Sunshine, Big John, Ghost Riders In The Sky, Monster Mash, Headless Horseman. And fairly newer ones.... Rains of Castemere, Way Down, Man of Constant Sorrow, Far Over The Misty Mountains Cold, I See Fire.

So if you've listened to Home Free (mostly country), and now Voice Play (mostly theatre), you now need to listen to the group that set the stage for this generation of acapella groups to thrive: PENTATONIX. They've got three Grammys; PTX is mostly pop music, but their specialty is emulating electronic dance music (EDM). Their beatboxer is one of the best on the planet, both for his speed, which is insane, but also the variety of effects he can produce. Combining him with their bass creates an unbelievable EDM sound that you'd swear wasn't real. You should start with Bohemian Rhapsody, so you can see what each of them can do. (It includes their original bass, Avi, who left in 2017, and was replaced by current bass Matt). Then listen to Hallelujah, arguably their most famous song. Then listen to their first Grammy winner, Daft Punk. Then listen to their EDM original Coffee in Bed. After that, being the holidays are approaching, attack all their Christmas music, which is how they became as famous as they are. No joke, their versions of classic Christmas songs are probably the best version you've ever heard. You'll be hooked.

Welcome to the theatre kids of A Cappella! Voiceplay is fabulous! I'm so addicted. And this is my favorite line up! Left to right- Layne, J. None (a member on leave, currently singing in the US Naval Choir), Geoff, Eli (sounds like "jelly"), and Cesar, their newest member. I'm going to recommend my favorite song by them, "Valhalla Calling." It's seriously top tier! I listen to it for hours on end, on repeat. Loooove #voiceplay!! So glad youre checkimg them out. All of their vocal ranges are incredible. From beginning to "Burn it" Layne the beat boxer was doing the low stuff...he also has a voice that reaches to the bottom of the piano. Then Layne takes up the beat boxing (although Geoff also can beatbox) and Geoff does all his amazing bass stuff plus shows off his higher range. Eli is the rock tenor (also has gorgeous low range and can be smooth as silk) and Cesar is baritone but can go waaaaay up high as well and has a voice like velvet. These guys (and their wives/partners) are all ridiculously insanely talented.

Love seeing new people discovering VoicePlay! They do not have a lane to stay in, they just go wherever they please (and kill it!). Voiceplay is my second favorite a cappella group, right after Home Free. The two groups are friends, by the way. The bass, Geoff, has some fantastic solo work on his solo channel. His recent cover of Jack’s Lament from Nightmare before Christmas is a treat and shows his vocal agility. I think you’d enjoy it.

Welcome to VoicePlay. They are commonly referred to as the Theater Kids of Acapella for excellent reasons all of which are highlighted in this video. I can see from other comments that other have already informed you of their names and usual voice ranges in their covers. I warn you though that none of these super talented, extremely nice and completely genuine artists stay in one lane or do what people expect. (You are going to LOVE it.) I am glad other reactors are picking up on this group as they are my favorites for lots of reasons. They are entirely independent and do nearly everything themselves from writing music and lyrics to arrangement, video concept and production to costuming and makeup (although they do sometimes have people they bring in for really complex work (See their video of This is Halloween for example)). They DO have a professional sound mixer and sometimes doubletrack some things for videos, but I was 1st introduced to them in 2016 at the Magic Kingdom Christmas Party in WDW in Florida and I can personally attest that they sound just this impressive live and can hit all the vocal marks mainly because they have put in the work and professionalism to actually BE professionals. Speaking of live there are three videos you really should check out just to see what I mean, Aside from This is Halloween, we don't talk about Bruno made such a huge impression on Disney that VoicePlay was asked to perform it live at a special private event. There is a terrible recording of said event on KZfaq that is still also worth a listen because they had to rearrange the entire performance to get the same effects live and did so with very little notice. The other one I would like you to experience to understand just how nice and real these guys are, is the Halo theme. Please Do watch that one all the way to the end credits because the outro is important. (Actually, in case no one thinks to tell you be sure to watch all of VoicePlay and Geoff Castellucci's videos all the way through *with the captions on* as they are usually quite informative and sometimes funny). You will be glad you did and since VoicePlay has lots of fans here on KZfaq you can expect a lot of support for their material on your channel once the fanbase sees you. I have found that the fans are as nice as the group and more than willing to support new reactors.

The Bass singer, Geoff (Jeff) has his own channel. He isn't acappella on it, but he does all the parts sung, as well as some of the instruments. I didn't see it mentioned, but he has a massive range, as shown here. On his site, I would suggest you listen to Ain't No Sunshine, the Bill Withers cover.

Layne, J-None, Geoff, Eli (el-ee), and Ceasar Delarosa. J-None is actually in the military musical corps. He was in the group and comes back sometimes.

Welcome to the Voiceplayers world! It's a cosy rabbit-hole to venture down! Most of the 'regulars' have given you a ton of info, so all I would add is a couple of hints - put the 'captions' on, (as long as they are not the 'auto-generated' ones!), as they often include some fun bits, and for this one you would have seen the backing vocal lines, also you REALLY need to watch the full outros, as they often tease another release, play the 'karaoke' track and/or throw in some 'behind the scenes' clips. on Geoff's solo channel (somthing else you NEED to check out!) he will often have a little message at the end! Typically they are more of an ensemble group, but this particular song really called for one main lead and obviously with his voice it had to go to Geoff. As others have remarked they do it all, using makeup and steady cam operators only if they can not handle it with one exception. In their cover of Valhalla Calling, they went to a studio that has wall sized LED screens that they used to display the digital backgrounds that the tenor created. He is generally in charge of lighting and is a tech wizard. He has also done some arranging, but most of the arrangements are done by Geoff who was the lead here and Layne, the beatboxer, trading off pretty much every month. They do use another arranger for their shorts and their minis and two or three of their full productions. They do not tour anymore, and in a rare live appearance they are going to be appearing with Chicago in Atlantic City this weekend and several fans who are more financially able than I are going to be lucky enough to see them. They also have individual endeavors that keep them pretty busy there at home as well as a few having younger children in the family. By the way, the idiot guard is being played by Tony Wakim who used to be their baritone from about 2009 to 2017 and was with them when they participated in the sing off against Home Free. You can see him in earlier videos and is in the collaboration they did with HomeFree Using the song survivor. You can usually find it if you look up Zombies versus Hillbillies. I’ll let you guess which is which😂.

Introductions: Layne Stein beatboxer/vocal percussionist/Baritone founding member of Voiceplay. He arranges about half their songs. He also is Co-owner of Patty Cake Productions (with former member Tony Wakim) were they film most of their videos J None Baritone and featured guest singer. Former member of Voiceplay left in 2021 when he got recruited by the Navy. He promised to return and has kept that promise, returning whenever he has leave. Geoff (Jeff) Castellucci Bass singer and founding member of Voiceplay. He does the other half of the arrangements. He also has his own channel where he does Low Bass Covers. He is known for his low subs and has a five octave range. Eli (rhymes with jelly) Jacobson Rock Tenor is in charge of lighting and special effects. And arranged a few songs and helps with others. He's also a voice actor and usually does the extra voices when needed (voiced the gaurd in thus song) Cesar de la Rosa Sassy Baritone/Tenor newest member of the group. The guy/gaurd thst came in wad Tony Wakim former member and Co-owner of Patty Cake Productions (you should check out their work too) They are still down one member so they have a lot of Featured Artists join them, any would make perfect additions to the group. You can choose any songs from their vast collection and never go wrong.

Home Free, VoicePlay & Pentatonix are the sort of Big 3 in acapella. The latter two are much more theatrical than Home Free and the vocal styles of each band are significantly different. Another really good acapella group is Straight No Chaser (they have a live video of "Rocky Top" in which Tim & Austin of Home Free guest). Rob Lundquist guests on VoicePlay's video of Movie Themes.

Geoff is the primary bass, but Layne (vocal percussion) can provide basement notes whenever he wants, and often does backup bass when Geoff is reaching for higher notes.

The original song is actually this dark and a lot more creepy and is prob the darkest Disney villain song.

Please go down the rabbit hole of listening to Geoff Castellucci, the bass singer. You will be in shock listening to his notes and singing in general. A few songs by him, “Ain’t No Sunshine”, “House of the Rising Sun”, “Sixteen Tons”, “Rains of Castemere”, “Jacks Lament” are just a few good solos by him with insane low notes. Good Voiceplay songs would be “Oogie Boogie Song”, “Hoist the Colours”, “Mermaid Medley (ps: almost shows Geoff’s full range)”, “Valhalla Calling”, “Dragonborn”. Just a few.

#Voiceplay The problem with pegging the members into silos is most have 4+ octave ranges. BTW Geoff arranged Homefree's Elvira with the Oakridge boys. You should also check out Geoff's solo channel
