Creatively, the thing I struggle with the most is having so many ideas for projects but not having someone or a team to help bring them to life. It gets so overwhelming that it's almost impossible to just focus on one. I haven't done any research on this, I'm sure its a thing already, but I've thought about how useful it would be to have an agency that helps creators like myself put together a team to help them with their projects. The introverted side of my creativity makes hiring people feel harder than working on all these project ideas myself. 😂

Ahh that's really interesting and such a good point! Have you heard of the platform YT Jobs? I think it's ytjobs [dot] co. Specializes in freelancers for creators! But a done-for-you placement agency could be even better.

Yes, 2023 has been going fast. It has been my most productive and most challenging. As somebody that has worked in production, it can be intimidating. Empathy is needed! I’m excited for the projects you have in the pipeline. Cheers!

Thank you for sharing so candidly. My freelance business has been pretty much defunct since September last year (it was matching my mental health). So I’m essentially starting over and this is really encouraging. It’s reassuring to know that someone I really look up to also has tough times and I’m not just a sucky loser.

Hey you're definitely not a sucky loser! My last 6 months freelancing has been shockingly rough and now I've had to slow down to deal with my health. But a "reset" is how I'm seeing it so I wish you all the best on your journey. Latasha's videos are my go to when I'm feeling low about freelancing ❤

I can totally relate to your scope creep situation because that happened to me over the past few months. I had a project that went on and on and on, lasting several weeks longer than I expected. The client kept asking me for way too many revisions. It was so stressful. 😭 Finally it ended and I earned my money, but it was tough! It was an unusual situation for me and I wasn't prepared, but I learned a lesson, which was... include some revisions in the original price but then after a point, start charging hourly for revisions!

Love the honesty, Latasha! It's interesting to hear about YT's potential authentication issue - I feel like Instagram may be going through something similar because I've heard some users being accused to using third parties to buy followers which, while is possible, isn't the case for these users.

I’m sooooo over freelancing and it’s seems to have painted me into a corner because now it’s impossible to get hired permanently. Ugh I wish more people would be honest about how hard it is to freelance. Especially when there is an over saturated market. 😢😢😢 I’m exhausted from barely surviving.

Oh I'm so sorry to hear that things are tough for you right now. Thank you for your honesty. I personally still wouldn't trade my freedom for most anything and am so grateful for the ability to freelance, but I also totally understand where you're coming from. It IS hard and I always try to be honest about that. I hope things turn around for you, whether in the freelance world or the traditional workplace! ❤

How much of your time/percentage of your work is from your agency (vs KZfaq/sponsorship/courses/influencer-y stuff)? This year has been challenging and it feels like I'm so behind, but when I do look at the larger picture, we are up almost 300% from last year. I appreciate the candor. I do find that I have unfollowed a lot of influencers in this realm because once they turn into "influencers" they lose touch with the actual production or business (not that I think there is anything wrong with the career of being an influencer, but it's just a much different beast than being a creative agency). However, you are always so grounded and are speaking to the actual struggles of freelancers. I also hate doing anything on my phone. Someone mentioned that they make all of their canva graphics on their phone and schedule it from their phone. I could never 😵‍💫

It really depends. I do a breakdown at the end of each year. So far this year, it's mostly video work (through the agency) and brand partnerships (through here). And YES, that perspective is important! I was feeling like a failure for a minute then realizing I have also made way more this year, it's just come at different times/in different ways. I totally see what you mean about business owners becoming "influencers"/creators (and of course it's your right to unfollow!) I will say though, that criticism/pressure has driven me to burn out many, many times. I've ALWAYS worked with *at least* one service-based client in addition to KZfaq (a full-time job on its own), teaching classes (also a full-time job), etc. even when I haven't needed to financially or haven't felt up to it. I truly feel unable to take a break without people thinking I'm lazy, out of touch, a fraud, etc. Oh gosh, no editing on the phone for me! Everything takes way longer and just feels more stressful haha
