Highway Scale Stealth Camping

I stealth camped at a commercial vehicle inspection station and weigh scale along the side of the highway. There was ample tree cover and plenty of spots to set up camp for the night. The camping was acceptable considering the location. As always it's not quite a camping trip without something going wrong.

Hey Steve, I hope you're hanging in there okay. I lost my wife not long after you lost Jess, and I know how difficult it is as the months go by. I thought I'd be doing better by now, but actually, far from it. I was thinking about you because I imagine you're going through much the same thing, and I know how hard it is when, everywhere you look, you're reminded of her. Anyway, I just wanted to thank you for continuing to push on because it is really inspiring to those of us who are going through a similar experience. Best wishes!

I am sorry for the loss of your wife. And to Lisasdayoff991 my sympathies for the loss of your husband. Steve definitely is an inspiration. My situation is a little different. My wife almost died 19 months ago after 2 brain surgeries and is in a nursing home now trying to recover. I don't know what it's like for you but I fully understand what you mean when you say everything reminds you of her. All the best to you

Steve has a way of making stealth camping look fun and doable. Then I find myself glancing to the side of a freeway at a plot of land and I think to myself, “Steve would have a camp site set up, drinking a beer, and making beef stroganoff” and then I realize how hard, stressful, never racking and scary it would be. Which is why I enjoy living vicariously through him from the friendly confines of my couch.

Steve, you have have spoken to so many people, because you're such a lovely guy. I've spoken [online and in passing] to you before when I was "temporarily" homeless and I had just found shelter [which was through a charity]. You were so supportive in your reply to me and genuinely glad that I had found a roof over my head and I'll never forget that. I usually don't speak about things as personal as this, but my life had been pretty good until there was a sudden and unexpected series of deaths in my family which pretty much took everyone away. Firstly, I want you to know that I have progressed from where I was and have just moved into an apartment where I'm truly happy, but I relate to your sadness and want you to remember that grief is a long process. Please never forget that there are so many people who admire you for just being you. I think I may have once said in a comment to you "there is no statute of limitations on grief" and it's true. Please never stop posting your amazing videos, but never feel stressed to do it. You're so good at what you do and as you hopefully already know, there are a huge number of people out here who love watching you, but hey only when you're able and it feels right. Big love from a UK fan, who has been to Canada... A lot :D

As an advocate for homeless folk for over 20 years I'd like to point out that most of the people I've met on the streets have experienced life altering tragedies- often a series of them. If judgemental people only knew what these folks have been through and how brave they are still putting one foot in front of the other I certainly hope their dormant empathy would finally emerge. Bless you Jeff. May life continue to get better for you. And of course bless you Steve. You are indeed such a good person and I love your funny ways.

I believe that he wanted us to think that those shots came due to his Chinese sponsorship, via Chinese Spy Balloon. Did anyone else notice that when he unpacked his gear, he failed to mention the drone? That was the first thing that I noticed during the video. I guess that he would call it his "Stealth Drone". Actually, it worries me a bit, as being a drone pilot, I am always worried that someone will see the drone in the air, which always seems to be the case. Next, they will hunt him down!

As some one who lives in cold climate - rain is way worse in my opinion. Actually just couple degrees above freezing rain especially in is windy - the only weather I truly dislike. I always take 0°F (-18°C) blizzard then that : D I made makeshift winter shield for my face and walked for hours in that weather while listening audiobook and it was bast. While we hiked with friends last weekend and it was slush (snow and rain combined), I was kinda ok because I brought plastic rain coat, but my friends were miserable. All their winter clothes couldn't take more water and they started to freeze so we left. Snow also was very heavy and hard to walk and winter shoes which are not perfectly waterproof started to become wet. So my vote would be rain as it is way more dangerous unless you are completely prepared.

Hey Steve, nice video. A quick tip - instead of rolling your tent, just stuff it in the stuff sack. That way, there's no creases on the tent which could possibly crack over time and it's a lot easier and quicker. Looking forward to the next one!

There's a certain joy inducing vibe that Steve gives off. You can tell he is a genuine kind person who's doing this camping thing for the love of it after all Steve is the proprietor of the stealth! Having lived in the Olympic wilderness for four years with a three legged dog and a Lincoln town car that we treated like a SUV made me thankful for anyone willing to share the path they had taken from being homeless to home. Hope you are healing Steve glad you kept joy in your hart through everything.

I am interested in your life. I think that I will be living like this after my mother dies. We live together. I have disabilities and can't find a job that I can handle. In the future, I will be collecting a monthly disability payment close to $800 USD a month as an independent. It will not be enough to rent an apartment, buy groceries, and the other things that I might need. It looks like the options are either van camping or by foot living. I can see the pros and cons of both. It might be nice to have the metal walls as protection but it comes with the extra cost of vehicle maintenance and the $800 might not cut it. There are so many things to take into consideration. There are different levels of disability. The higher functioning group says that they avoid the permanent physical shelters set up by churches and such. They complain of theft, drugs, violence, and body lice there but alone as an individual camper sounds lonely and so isolated from the world.

Here's an idea. Miniature campout. You arrive in an Izetta and emerge holding an ice fishing rod while wearing shorts and sandals. Maybe a birthday hat? You cook on a mosquito stove and educate us on smallest available stove getups. Your pot is an old Early Winters belt hanger hiker's cup you found in a yard sale or on the bottom of some trout stream and regale us with that story. And sleep in a harness or mountain climbers cocoon hanging in a Christmas tree. Campfire is a coffee can full of Georgia fatwood splinters. Dinner could be quarter size crabcakes on crackers. Or smashburgers shooter marble size. Little pony beers for step two. You could speak only in a whisper. You'll be like Gulliver's travels.
