As an introvert I 1000% understand what he went through. The fear of being close to others, fear of being judged, fear of losing your happy childhood. I can see why he turned out like that. This world is a cruel place and it hurts people. Hurt people hurt people. The fact that he sacrificed himself unlike the other nitwit friends that caused the village to suffer really gave him a surprising redemption in such a short time

Higurashi means cicadas. At the start of the episode they foreshadow his death by showing a dead cicada in his backstory when he walks past Akira and Kencho in college. Then this hits deep when he's in front of the pool at the end with the sound of cicadas buzzing signifying the summer youth he yearned for.

The saddest scene I've ever seen in my life. He is very relatable and it's hard not to cry when the music drops after I hear his backstory. It's quite sad a lot of people can't be empathetic towards him. Still my favorite character and only reason I finished this anime.

Higurashi's story is very sad because he just wanted to have fun and be happy every day and despite the bad things he did. Even so, Akira hugs him, telling him that one day we will be in the pool playing

This anime had so much potential, unfortunately it was gradually forgotten. It is a cruel irony that the show suffered from the same thing that happened to the protagonist of the story. I hope it has a better second season😮‍💨

Agree but also sad and surprised that he has the great sacrifice in himself unlike the other that in the end they are not even realize the wrong they have done. Higurashi is different that he did the right thing at the end and be forgiven.

It really is such a heart demolishing scene they put together, the build up was something marvelous as you were supposed to think of him at the same level as those other 3 who were just awful people through and through. Higurashi just didn't have his head screwed on right in the end... truly sad to see him go as he finally sees the light. Wish they kept in the part when he fully jumps into the river though so we get that full closure, Crunchy Roll KZfaq team.

that man is my baby, i adopted him, he's mine now, HES ALIVE!!!!! (i say that because i heavily empathize with him, i was a introvert neet like him, even at school i hated talking to people and felt like everyone was so much better than me)

Not gonna lie bro I could sympathize with him but most of his actions and consequences were caused by his fear and stubbornness, becoming a zombie was his fault and it sucks that being bitten and hugged by someone who truly cared, even if it was for a minute, is what took Higurashi realizing his mistakes but even then it was too late. So I don’t feel too bad for his character, Akira was pretty chill for being so damn forgiving.

Am i the only one cant... Really feel bad about him? Its like the "Sorry, Anyway" meme where they show shots of the floods of zombies, fire, and the burning village (that got borderline insanely quick rebuilding) caused by HIS selfishness. I know hes also supposed to be a representation at the mental health awareness of younger adults being neglected but it kinda hurts the message when you remember the irreparable damage he did.

Yeah, that was the entire point of his backstory as well as the other villians. All of the villians's backstories show they put themselves in their situations and want to blame other for their misery. In Higurashi's backstory he talks about how he lived a life identical to Aki's and yet found no meaning to living. Aki himself admitted had he continued working at his job he most likely would've turned ou the same way. You weren't necessarily being told to feel sorry for him but to understand him.

No, not really. If people enjoyed Zom 100, they returned (or will return) for the S1 finale. If not, chances are, they dropped the show before its hiatus was even announced. I actually think it's refreshing that a company was willing to take a temporary financial "L" instead of releasing an unpolished product or pushing its employees to do the unthinkable. Most animation studios can't say that (and we all know which shows I'm talking about). People like to rip on Zom 100 (especially folks who never tuned in), but the series still has an audience. Just to be clear, I'm not accusing you of anything, but I do feel tired of people writing off the anime. Bug Films took a small hit to their reputation, yes, but I think they did a great job overall. It's hard to blame a company for wanting their debut show to be the best it can be (without abusing it's staff, of course, which would be rather ironic after the first episode).

Ugh... no. The tone of this series... it's absolutely all over the place and it ruins it for me. It's not a dramedy, or a black comedy, or a serious story, or a character study. One second it'll try to be funny and light-hearted and the next hit you with this, and not in a cohesive way. I mean, geez, I remember dropping it at episode 9 because Akira's reaction to seeing a survivor making a tree house in the forest was to drop his *rescue mission for his parents* in order to stop and build a tree house. Shizuka's character is basically just gone... she's just occasionally going "wow, really?" at Akira's antics. Just... Such wasted potential after that first episode, man... I feel betrayed.
