Number 11 !! #HikeOregon . My favorite trail to camp-around. If wondering into Washington, give Bare mtn trail and Crystal Peak, a try. Awesome views, a workout for the legs (and lungs), and few people.

I was really sad about the Eagle Creek trail fire. The hike past Tunnel Falls was one of my “go tos” for day hikes when I lived in PDX.

So much green and waterfalls! Haha Very different than my video! The only one of those I've been to on your list is Smith Rock and Crater Lake (except I don't think I've done Garfield Peak) Mt. Bailey looks so cool! And the Timberline trail (obviously). I think I've got a couple more things on my list now. Steens mountain has been on my list for a bit, but I just haven't gotten to it yet.

Great video! Definitely going to put this on the places to hike list for the year. One suggestion for the next video, in your slide that shows elevation and distance, an actual map in the background with a pin of the location in the state would be helpful. I was google mapping where a lot of these places are in the central and southern Oregon. Great video and keep them coming!
@HikeOregon
@HikeOregon 4 жыл бұрын
I was thinking about doing that but this. Idea already took me over 8 hours to edit and pinning a map of a different location for 15 places and then screenshotting it and editing the dimensions for KZfaq was going to take me at least another hour. Maybe next time.

I’m based in Eugene so most of my day hikes are around here and I did live in Central Oregon for 4 months so I’ve done almost all the hikes near Bend too. I’m working on doing more extensive trips up north this year. Just came back from two multi-day trips up there where I did lots of hiking in the Gorge, southern WA and Mt. Hood area.

When we don't need to be social distancing anymore, I want to go out on my first backpacking trip. I'm relatively fit, I dance ballet, but I am not an experienced hiker or climber. The timberline trail seems a bit too advanced for me to do on my own, but the other trails don't seem to be long enough or too far from me. I'm in Portland and I was thinking 3 days and 2 nights, with no more than 8 miles a day. So a loop between 15 and 24 miles. I grew up with mountain lions in southern CA, so I am not as afraid of them as I probably should be, but I am irrationally afraid of bears. I made the terrible mistake of reading the entire Wikipedia page on fatal bear attacks. Do you have anything you'd recommend? I live in Portland and I don't mind going in any direction. I just don't want to spend 5 hours in a car. I hate driving. Also, if there are any groups you'd recommend joining for people who backpack in the area, that would be great. I'm not super social, but it might be nice to tag along with other people.

Sometimes. I have heard a cougar and I have seen a dead baby cougar while solo hiking. I’ve also seen lots of scat and tracks. But typically I don’t hike in super dense forest by myself and I always carry bear spray just in case. If I’m solo hiking in areas I am seeing lots of scat or tracks in I will listen to a podcast on loud so that it scares away animals. I’ve only had to do that twice when I got really scared and there were no people within miles and miles of me.
