Those lock and roll hitches also ride quieter. Way less squeeking. I love this model. I’ve seen $60k tear drops but I always come back to looking at hiker.

Me too! I feel like you can spend half the money and get a custom trailer with Hiker. I'm learning more about the lock and roll, seems like no one has complaints ...

I got a 5x8 mid range last year with minimal mods things that I wouldnt add myself like the maxxfan, roof racks, an extra side door, 2in lift, trailer brakes. Added a catalytic heater myself and weve been on so many trips already I lost count. Going out today actually. I tow it with my 2 door wrangler.

Brian...only thing you have to be aware, if you want to do some extra wiring in this thing, it’s very tricky. All wires are mostly in the ceiling and some under the trailer. If you want to add some lights inside the cabin, there is no way to pull the wires, better tell them ahead of time so they can add some wires before they close off the ceiling. I had a trouble adding a dimmer to the outside spotlights, there is only one common negative wire, I had to get special dimmer to make this work. Besides that, thank you for the Hiker series.

Are there special metal or heavy duty plastic protection covers/guards when you know your going to be in heavy bush areas, or when there is an anticipated hail storm. How does the trailer and the solar panels hold up to hail. I’ve seen a lot of car damage and roof damage to hail so I would imagine it could still do the same to these trailers. Any comments on that?
@DIYOutdoorLife
@DIYOutdoorLife 3 ай бұрын
You can get guards for anything, if you need it. When ordering the trailer, you can extend diamond plate over several sections to give some degree of added protection as well. Your solar panels are generally fine, they have a very high hail rating. Of course, there's several different types of solar panels, my CIGS panel is virtually indestructible. Even the glass panels can take very large hail. Overall, it should be looked at in the same way as a vehicle like a car or truck is. It's pretty tough, but if you use it hard, you are gonna see wear and tear, nothing lasts forever. Hope this helps, thanks for watching

I'm really liking these hikers. Great entry level pricing for what you said "spartan, but just enough to let people do what they want to do." The bolt on hitch has value that it serves as a theft deterrent even with a standard 2" ball. I love the receiver on the back (I have a Freedom hitch mounted Grill), but is it strong enough to pull another trailer like a small boat?

What is the maximum height of the XL including A/C, awnings, etc?
@DIYOutdoorLife
@DIYOutdoorLife 6 ай бұрын
It is designed to fit inside a standard 7 foot door garage opening, even with the add-ons. I'm sure there's slight modifications that could raise or lower the overall height, but they shoot to stay under 7 feet.

I recently picked up my Midrange XL. It's basically a box. If they could learn some basic metal working, they could build them out of aluminum sheets with stiffeners like an aircraft fuselage or build aluminum panels with a foam core. The trailer frame could also be made out of aluminum.

I don't recall the mention of the insulation on the sidewalls, or floor. The roof has some insulation?
@DIYOutdoorLife
@DIYOutdoorLife Жыл бұрын
The roof is insulated, the walls are solid wood with the seams sealed. Really nice to see an insulated roof painted white, that will definitely help with heat and cold. I’d have to ask around to see how well people fair in the cold weather with the solid wood walls, my guess is it does well.

@T.J. Kong Aluminum, if designed correctly, especially in a frame application would be just as durable, yes there are some drawbacks such as being a little more difficult to repair, but overall the weight savings would be major.

@@DIYOutdoorLife Brian, I’ve seen past videos that you have on RV solar wiring that you said were junk. Is the wiring on the hiker trailers a higher quality and most RVs? Would you get the Solar on the hiker or not? Thanks.

@@debrarogers1808 they are doing it right! typically, RV companies install a "solar on the side" or "solar ready package" which is complete nonsense.
