It's such a bummer how Swery went from being one of my favorite developers to this. I used to blindly throw money at his projects and suggest his games to others. Like yourself, I convinced friends to kickstart Good Life (oops). But now, I can't help but roll my eyes whenever I see his name. He's so hostile on social media and tries to turn legitimate criticisms of his games into a meme with his "darkside swery" persona. On the flip side, I am always happy to see your videos! I love watching this channel. Good video as always :)

Between this game and Deadly Premonition 2 (not to mention his aparently arrogance in some Twitter posts), I don't think Swery can recover the faith his fanbase had in him.

In an alternate reality, SWERY keeps his ego in check and has some self-awareness. Unfortunately, we don't live in that reality. That's the true meaning of my comment.

I've never seen Hikiko so furious in a video before. It's upsetting to see a creator you adore fall from grace after becoming so full of himself. I'm sad to admit that a lot of my favorite game designers went that route.

Sounds like some Molyneux trickery. Actually, the worst part is not undelivered promises (or crazy levels of grind), but Swery having an attitude to blame people for pointing that out. Sorry for your shattered hopes

The DLC mostly confirms what I already knew about the game. At some point SWERY had an idea to make a game that was a subversive Twin Peaks, as in "what if I made a Twin Peaks styled town but there were no stakes and everything weird about it only amounted to the main character getting annoyed?". It's an interesting premise for sure, and I know a lot of surrealist comedy that does just that, but the whole point was always to make the protagonist annoyed, not the viewer/player. And even if annoying the player was part of the point, I don't think the trouble of plowing-through the RPG life sim aspects of it were worth it for something that, at best, is straight-to-DVD material. If I bought it like any other game, I would be disappointed but I would move on. But the fact that I backed this because I was promised a very different game truly hurts. The DLC just widens the wound.

Wow, that DLC looks like a big fuck you for even playing it, let alone buying it. Every day I'm happy that I didn't back the Kickstarter or ever bought the game. In SWERYs defense though, I did pay close to 10 bucks for a coffee at Starbucks a few years ago when I was visiting the capital of Switzerland.

I had this game on my list for the longest time but something just didn't quite feel right about it. Had no idea it was done by the Deadly Premonition Guy (Which I love those games). I am truly thankful for your coverage because it confirmed the fears I had about the game and now I can move on now knowing to avoid it.

These AI voices are nuts but the presidential memes are hilarious. I gotta say that AI Francis Scott Morgan doesn't sound that much different to the real thing.

I was expecting this since the revelation of the dlc

Playing through both Deadly Premonition 2 and The Good Life back-to-back to me revealed that maybe Swery is a one-trick pony (with people like Jim S. Sterling going as far as to say that they regret giving Deadly Preminition a 10/10 back in 2010 just to be a contrarian), and if DP1 and D4 had actual strokes of genius it was probably thanks to Access Games seeing how White Owls seem to be even more technically incompetent than them

Woah. The 50 cans you get is just a big middle finger. It takes 50 just to make one!!. Why not just fix the game to not make it a chore to do running around an empty way too big map

Not even kidding - I played this through on gamepass and then, a year later, bought the game and DLC (on sale because even I wouldn't pay full price for this) and as someone born and raised in the British countryside...I find this game so funny, despite its frustrating gameplay loop. But having seen what was actually PROMISED to backers? Yeah, I'd be pissed as hell too. That game looked really good. I'd have loved to see it released.

Actually, they do introduce 2 new characters... and you are forced to murder them within the questline in which you met them in, and they are never mentioned again. I mean they probably did reuse the models, but I never saw this model before, probably because there is never a point in going into the neighboring town.

The twist is literally the excuse/world setting in the Fate/Tsukihime games word for word, which is ironically not a secret or spoiler. It's the first thing anyone tells you

It's basically an English countryside prank after 1 and half year wait, but done digitally by a Japanese game Dev at the expense of your 10 USD (minus tax) It's even worse than Peter Molyneux's overbloated premises on Fable 3, but at least Fable 3 does produced and resulted in a product brought by actual English (and British) game developer studio

I enjoyed The Good Life (probably because I didn't hear about the kickstarter until it was closed and basically approached the game like SWERY's take on a sort of Animal Crossing/Harvest Moon kinda thing), but the DLC definitely struck me as odd, so I didn't buy it. Good to know my instincts were right.

Now i would LOVE to play this DLC. Unfortunately i cant. I am stuck with the game breaking bug after Route C of the main game. Which they didnt bother to fix even with update 3.1. Lots of people stuck there on reddit. So yeah this game unfortunately is unplayable kusoge.

I would have told Swery, that he should update his games for free because he has a conscience and takes pride in his work. Or does he? People like ConceredApe still update their games way after they were released free of charge. Stuff like that improves both your reputation as well as keeping the game in people's head, which increases sales. I would have understood if they had to remove features and content to just finish the project on budget. He could also admit that he screwed up or ran out of ideas - something of the like. Could have fixed the bad word of mouth. Transparency goes a long way, but seeing him take the dishonest approach so many times only goes to show he just gave in to arrogance and cynicism.
