This is a bucket list hike in South Africa, the video will never do this hike justice and you would have to experience this yourself. The return hike is about 12km and I would call it moderate too hard, but it comes with a risk factor when climbing the chain ladders. There is an entrance fee at the park and you have to pay for the hike on a per day basis.
The route to the hike is the worst road you will ever see, so you definitely need a 4x4, it's 7km long and takes about 45 minutes. The waterfall was remeasured in November 2021 and is officially the highest waterfall in the world.
This is the accommodation we stayed at: witsieshoek-mountain-lodge.bu...
Here is the location of the parking available at the hike: Chain Ladder Rte, Phuthaditjhaba, 9870
You can follow the route on all trails, look for me and give me a follow if you want to: Check out my profile on AllTrails: alltrails.com/en/members/garn...

The Gulley is the only other route I know up except for the chain ladder, so it will have to do, it’s ridiculously tough, because of how steep it is 😁 but I’ve seen many people go up there. I think the less you have to carry the easier it would be

Thanks Adrian, I think it is a popular discussion seeing that there were explorers that re-measured it and saw it was actually higher than Angel falls, coming in at 983m. Although it is super difficult to estimate height seeing the last drop of Tugela is really difficult to get to. I know a guide that takes people up to the mountain very often if you are interested in using a guide service 😁.
