Hiking at Dames Cave in Withlacoochee State Forest in central Florida located within the Citrus Tract. There are many karst and limestone features throughout these areas of Florida. These dry caves are neat to experience along with the scenic hiking trails nearby. A nice loop trail which is part of the Florida Trail can be found nearby. There are many formations like this and sinkholes as well around these areas please use caution when hiking here. These caves are more visited than many of the others in the area so unfortunately people have left trash and vandalized this site over the years. Please be respectful of this place and don't ruin it so that it can be enjoyed by future generations. Thank you for watching see the links below for more info. Enjoy!

I live 10min from these caves and have visited a couple times. I've always wanted to get down into these tight spots but came too late and didn't have any lights. I wasn't going down there in the dark!! But seeing you do it is giving me the courage! Thanks man!!!

I live on Florida East Coast, didn't know there was so much early industry here. I researched and found out 85% of all phosphorous for the US is mined in Florida. Cypress trees were very desirable and made good wood for furniture because it was very hard and due to the tree's environment being warm all the time it evolved excellent defenses against Wood Destroying Organisms like termites and boring insects. These qualities remain in the wood after it dries. I actually sold a house in Miami-Dade County (I'm a Realtor) that had "Dade County Pine" stamped on a lot of board, same thing, pine trees from Florida have a high quantity of Terpentine for defense against the constant onslaught of insects making the dried wood almost impervious to insect and WDO activity. Cool stuff, like your video's but don't know how you handle the Yellow Fly!!!!!

Also, a question comes to mind... I'm sure it would depend on the severity but do you think those things hold water during and after a major hurricane?

Be safe Brother. Had a very strange encounter a few miles east of there years ago. You probably know what I'm getting at. Trees shook back and forth, strange noises.

Dry sink hole. As far as the artists old fashion stocks in a public square with no security would be fun.

I live an hour away. Just moved from Pensacola area not to long ago. Went to 7 sisters springs yesterday and swam through the holes. I saw the sign for Withlacooche yesterday. Thanks for this video, I'm definitely taking notes an where to go. I bring a few trash bags for the trash in the caves , pic it up and take pictures of the graffiti. Thanks for all these vids, history and exploration.

The last 2 times I was in Peace Cave, it was boiling hot inside. Is that still the case? Figured it was a geothermal thing. All the other Dames caves are cooler inside. Did you try Danger Cave? A suicide mission to follow the floor tunnel. Very tight squeeze and the roof is always ready to fall. All the broken glass at the entrance seemed brainless until I realized it was to keep people out for their own protection.

We definitely have bats in the caves. The bats in those caves specifically are usually very small.

I tripped on acid in the peace cave in my twenties. Cops busted the party and we ran from them on ATVS and dirtbikes while tripping balls. What an adventure

Thanks for the tour of the caves FT. I've been there several times but I haven't been into the caverns because it's not safe for Xander Greyhound to go in. I'm grateful you filmed it so I could finally see what it's like in the caves. 👍
