This incredibly stunning hike of Snowdon/Yr Wyddfa via the Rhyd Ddu Path in Snowdonia, North Wales, begins at a pay and display Snowdonia National Park carpark (LL54 6TN) in the beautiful village of Rhyd-ddu.
This mountain path, which crosses the historical Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways line, has 895 meters of ascent (8.5 miles), taking around 6 hours to complete and has an epic ridge walk to get the heart pumping. The views were non-stop, this path really is spectacular!
We were lucky enough to meet some knowledgeable and passionate people during our walk, Gwynfor Jones and Mountain Leader Hywyn Roberts, whose love of the mountain really was inspiring, was good enough to impart some of his welsh wisdom and we would like to thank him for taking the time to chat to us. If anyone needs a really awesome Snowdonia mountain guide Hywyn's number is 07810216708.
Day 3 of our Portmeirion series, plenty more Snowdonia adventures coming up.....so stay tuned!
Thank you for being here, all the best, Ceri & Kat!

Stunning scenery and super crisp, gorgeous footage! £3 parking all day is fair enough and what value for a hike like that. Well I indeed hope to do it one day (hopefully this year) again and I am loving this path, never really seen it before but looked real scenic and so quiet - even I could not get lost following that route! Yes, I was enjoying the views and the walk -glorious indeed! I absolutely loved the ridge walk and only wish that I could walk it backwards, as those views behind were jaw dropping. Well done to 'Little Boots' (apparently this was Emperor Caligula's nickname too😳) for supporting Ceri, it's hard to admit a weakness but I always admire anyone who does and then tries to conquer that fear and Happy Anniversary to you both ❤❤. What a viewing point that was, he was not wrong at all, stunning scenery and I would be interested in what time you started and how long it took you to get up and down, as I would double it for my age (66), that add on an additional few hours for me just sitting and taking in all that grandeur! Amazing summit shots and 360 and well deserved 'all you can eat buffet' and was that 6hrs I heard and pub.....cafe...in the village, sounds too good to be true😂. Superb 24.45 watch, my favourite video of yours for me and to be honest, one of the best Snowdon videos I have ever watched! Cheers Alan

Hello Alan, we are blown away by your feedback on this one, wow thank you! Diolch as the welsh say! The walk was exactly 8.31 miles and took us 6hrs, the carpark details (postcode) are in the video description, always handy we think as like you sometimes you cam watch a video and think, yes I'll do that! We really hoped you'd watch along, with your October trip in mind, this route is well worth some serious consideration. 👍❤ The pub and cafe is a nice way to give a little something back to the local community too, and by the end you'll be famished I'm sure! I genuinely had photography cramp lol, so many photos and so much footage to sift through, I get to emotionally attached to a film tho, I find it hard to keep the duration down, really pleased to hear it was a good 24 minute watch tho, thanks again ❤👍☕ So may Cairns along the way too, to help in cloudy conditions, luckily for us the wind had a day off and the veiws were just incredible up and down! Worth a mention you can go up this way and down the Ranger path (that Trev and Nath walked in their Snowdon video) just leaving a bit if road walking to get back to the carpark. Something we had considered, but instantly feel in love with Rhyd Ddu path. Anyways, I feel the finger cramp returning lol, catch you soon, Ceri and Kat ❤👍🗻☕

Wow. What lovely views . You really had the best weather that day. Fantastic video as usual with lots of great info. I'm glad I'm not the only one who's struggling with the Welsh language. Lol. I really liked that you put 'Yr Wyddfa' in the titles before 'Snowdon' as I think its important to keep the original names in these places & not let the English version creep in. Saying that though I have found that a lot of Welsh people will say Snowdon rather than Yr Wyddfa. The second half of the walk on the ridge is quite hairaising as we walked down that way 20 years ago before detouring into the valley where the Watkins path comes down. We were very scared & crouched down all the way over the ridge. We would love to do the full walk from Rhydd Du one day. Take care guys.🙂🙂👍👍

Good morning Martin, thanks so much for your amazing feedback and comment as always, you are so lovely! Yes, the importance of local dialect and respecting the culture is massive, even tho we bimbled and struggled with certain words I think the guys appreciated that we were at least trying. Kat made a new BFF, I couldnt end the conversation for love nor mountains! ☕❤ The crouching and sloudging technique is a great one when wind is high or snow is underfoot too, slowly creep along and most importantly be safe. We hope you both get to walk the Rhyd Ddu path someday soon, you can tie it in with the Ranger path too, so you only have to do the ridge once. Leaving a slightly less steep of slightly longer decent down. Hope you guys are good and well, catch you soon, have a great start to the week, Ceri and Kat 🗻🥇👍☕❤

The kids and I get pretty excited when we're notified you have a new video up. Interesting on those victorian tea rooms. We had a thing in our mountains around the same time where people would build inns on some of the mountains where they could make a bridle path up. They're all ruins now, but yeah, sometimes you'll find a foundation, or a fireplace. Only the stoney bits left. That's an absolutely stunning hike. The views! Holy cow! Good on you Ceri for getting up there. What a day out, and only 6 pound? Would have been worth it for twice the price!

Good morning you lovely bunch, we love seeing your name pop up in the comments too, your support means so much, thanks ❤🗻 Brillaint isn't it, to engage with the history of a trail, to stop and think " I wonder what and when" love the old stone buildings, be they Inns, farmers, or tea rooms, just fantastic! Yes the parking cost of £6 is very fair indeed and the veiws alone were out of this world, not always the case in North Wales, often thick fog and clouds, even in th fairer seasons. Have a great start to the week all, catch you soon and thanks again, Ceri and Kat ❤👍🗻

As we turned tail leave the summit que was massive, not sure we would have bothered if it had have been any bigger when we landed tbh. Thanks so much for the anniversary wishes, not sure Welsh cakes are the traditional gift 🤭👍❤☕🏔 hope you and your family are well, have a great week, Ceri and Kat ❤🤗☕🏔

Stunning video as always Ceri and Kat. Happy anniversary too. 13 years is good going and here’s to many more mountain filled anniversaries too 🥂. Great to see you had your own personal mountain guides too. Very friendly folk are the Welsh. Well done too Ceri on safety negotiating the ridge. I always get an urge to jump off things like that and I’ve absolutely no idea why so I keep well away from the edges 😆. I’m surprised they’ve not put a hand sanitiser near the Snowden trig 🤣. I’d love to go back again myself. The views are out of this world on a clear day. Have a great week both 💚🙂👍

Amazing videos guys.....thankyou for sharing. The very fact that me and my brothers climbed it 24hours ago makes watching this video hundreds times more enjoyable but more so relatable. You also gave a good history and facts about monuments and coffee shops etc. You were blessed with a different perspective of its beauty as you had a sunny clear day. When we summitted it was very cloudy cold and windy. I couldn't have imagined it to be so spectacular all the while. It's funny how I miss the mountain. This video treads me on our own footsteps. And on a side note we met some wonderful people along the way albeit a very quiet route. One lady in particular who offered us a drive back to our car if we decided to decent using the watkin path as that would have left us six miles to walk to our car parked at rhyd dhu parking. Once again thankyou and much credit to you both especially your partner.(man) it definitely is not easy if it's your first time. We had to race up to make it down before nightfall but that's another story. Well done. I cant wait to do it again.....SUBSCRIBED👍🏽

Crikey that ridge looked hairy in places. I'd have been on my hands and knees at some points 🤣. I gather from Chris at MCM Outdoors that as you get older you loose your head for heights. That's my excuse anyway. Very enjoyable video, thanks for sharing and happy anniversary 🥂

I'm with you on this one!! Heights are not my friend! But pushing through and getting there and seeing the views is worth it....and then you have to get back down again! 🙂

Good evening Tim, horrendous isn't it, when your mind and body wont let you do what you want, I keep trying and pushing, also positively reinforcing when we do achieve something outside the comfort zone ❤☕ pleased you enjoyed our mountains, thanks so much for your support, you are a star ⭐ catch you soon, Ceri and Kat 👍🤗☕🗻

@@PicketFencePylon hey guys, its hard isn't it, you just wanna stop, turn tail or scream, maybe all of the above depending on conditions! Head down and one foot in front of another is also a tried and trusted technique 👍❤☕

Great mountain and ridge shots, just how I like it. I've not been up this route, it looks great and you've filmed it really well. Good local history from the guide community, well done for adding that. Waiting for the next film already x

Hello Kath and thanks as always for your support and kind words, really appreciated the feedback on the ridge footage, wasnt sure it would come out as well as it did due to my knees knocking! It was a brillaint route, one we will wall again l, maybe down the Ranger path next time! Stay safe and be well, Ceri and Kat ❤🗻☕👍

Great video. Thanks. If I had watched this BEFORE I tried it, I probably would have been intimidated. I did agree some of it made my legs jelly-ish but the film’s a bit more scary looking than I found it in “the flesh”. I am 63 and did my first ever ascent today, via this route. So beautiful! Great job capturing and sharing this for us.

Thanks so much, glad you enjoyed the video, Snowdonia is one of if not our favourite places and this route to the summit of Snowdon was spectacular! Kat always does brilliant with the exposed sections, I simply wouldn't be able to hike them without her, she gives me reassurance and the confidence to proceed. Happy new year and best wishes for the year ahead, Ceri and Kat ☕ ❤🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿⛰🗺🧭

Guy's I so look forward to watching you're videos and this one didn't disappoint!! From the 1st minute to the last you're footage and content was spot on and I learnt a lot about the history of Snowdon in this video which you don't get with most Snowdon videos! I had a sit down and a coffee in that victorian teahouse last time I did that path, welcome bit of shelter. Ceri you did really well on the Bwlch main ridge, a few people who don't like heights turn back at that point so well done for taking it on! I only spotted the Gwenlian plaque last time I went too, there is actually another 3000+ft mountain close by named after her called Carnedd Gwenlian (formerly called Carnedd Uchaf). Diolch yn fawr guys! All the best.. Day oh yeah and happy 13th year anniversary, lovely couple.

Good evening Day, Diolch yn Fawr! You are such a lovely man, we appreciate your support so much. Pleased the video didn't disappoint, wecant wait to walk this route again, may well be our new route of choice! And now we know about the tea rooms and what to expect from the ridge, gives us plenty of options depending on the weather of course. We learnt so much from the wonderful people we met along the way too, the guides in particular were inspiring in their passion and knowledge, I had to Crowbar Kat off them lol! Doing the hard bits is tough, but it will help future hikes, and indent mind a good crawl of needed lol! Thank you so much for the anniversary wishes too, one day I'll tell you how we met! Hope you and the family are well, stay safe and be well, Ceri and Kat ❤☕👍🗻🥇

Really loved this one. Nice one Ceri for facing your fear in that ridge! Doesn't mattet at all how small or big a ridge is, they give you such an unnatural feeling when upon them. You even managed to teach me a thing or two about my own country! 👍😁 Cheers guys.

Afternoon Geraint, thank you so much, it's hard to explain but I know you and most of the outdoors community would understand, I think it hits different people at different times, just glad there wasnt any wonder on this hike. Even more amazing was bumping into and talking with the moutain leaders, we chatted for about 40 minutes! It was a proper nerd off, in the best possible way! They chuckled on the ridge as I couldnt get close to film the lakes lol, I was in my hands and knees at this point! Anyways, stay safe and be well, Ceri and Kat ❤🥇🗻👍☕
