The one thing to remember is that there isn't just one set technique that suits all, it's all about finding the position that you're comfortable with and one that you can sustain for probably up to 25 or 30 minutes at a time." "So as we're sailing away upwind now it's all about trying to keep the boat nice and flat, anticipating what the wind's doing, it's important that we've got a quite a nice comfortable hiking style that we can bring the shoulders up in the lulls and then really extend out as we hit the gusts. And the trick here is not to have your toe strap too loose, otherwise it's hard to put your shoulders back, especially in the gusts where you need that little bit of extra leverage, (continued next post)

I have to deal with that all the time where I typically sail which is on a lake with all kinds of thermals. It's no fun :( When the big gust comes up you just have to let the sail out or risk capsizing.
