Hidden within the Coconino Forest is the ideal summer escape. The Crack - a cool, crystal clear swimming hole tucked within red rocks perfect for diving from. The hike there through a scenic canyon only adds to this worthwhile getaway.
The hike to the Crack follows Bell Trail and is roughly 7 miles out and back. Hikers will find a relatively flat and easy trail for the majority of the hike, however, the elevation gain is not substantial.
There is plentiful parking including an overflow lot. Dogs are welcome but must be kept on a leash.
As one makes their way closer to the Crack, more and more of the red rocks that the Sedona area is known for, make their appearance. The scenery is incredible.
At the end of the trail is the Crack, a pool of water deep enough to cliff dive into. This area can be crowded in the summertime, however, April through October are the most popular months.

@@CactusAtlas We rode our Mountain Bikes as far as we could go, on bikes, then locked them to a tree with a 6 foot steel cable, and hiked the rest of the way. That cut out miles of walking. Did you see the hand print carved into the cliff face up there?

Nice video and nice area. Do continue to protect your skin. Arizona has too many people anymore, just look at Fossil Creek area. You have to get permits to do anything anymore. I grew up in Arizona ages ago when it was less crowded. I know Arizona very well and know it is a beautiful place. I now live in Oregon where there are less regulations. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for sharing this place with us all. Hopefully, everyone will treat this area with care. It would be very nice to believe it will not change over time. The wall art is nothing. I live in Southern California. There is limitless paint that covers every nice place near any city. It is the topography of the area that is nice. There are caves that are completely covered in paint. However, i can see the beauty of the shape of the caves. It is still there. I guess the graffiti is / are modern day pictographs.

There are some real petroglyphs along off Bell trail, and its fun to spot them along the hike. Sad to see all the graffiti at the crack. It wasn't that bad 20 years ago. Shame on those people

Hi, the parking for this trail, is Rv friendly? (25 feet) tx
@CactusAtlas
@CactusAtlas 7 ай бұрын
The Bell Trail parking area is probably not suitable for an RV of that length. The forest service's website for the trail, however, states that there's a parking area just north (the Bruce Brockett Trailhead) that has parking for trailers which might accommodate a larger vehicle. That trail meets up with the Bell Trail.

Don't really remember but looking at extra footage we filmed and there is a sign that says: Open to: Hiking, equestrians (lower part), and bicycles outside of Wilderness. So I'm guessing the answer is yes and no. Yes, but not past the sign in the video that shows Wet Beaver Wilderness would be my guess.

Heads up: in the event you are still looking for "Seldom Seen Slim" he is buried in the ghost town of Ballarat in the death valley area. You can see his grave here on Ghost Town living, episode "Hiking to the roughest ghost town in death valley" episode. :-) Also, just a comment for you. Noticed you take a lot of shots where you are placing the camera down and walking the trail away. A couple of these shots are great for scenery reference but you are doing a lot of them back to back in your videos and it does in my opinion get a bit distracting. Just a thought to maybe shooting visuals as you walk so we get more of a feel of being with you on an adventure verses watching you experience it. Anyway, your offering great content, thanks!
