Remember that 210 pilot who busted the bravo at LAS and wasn't ready to copy because he was flying? Well, this could be his daughter. I hereby nominate the controller for the coveted title of World’s Most Patient Controller.

@canconservative8976
@canconservative8976 3 жыл бұрын
Her air work is probably competent, but the safety factor on the ground or in the air with failure to comply/understand with ATC is definitely a factor that should have prohibited the solo. Missing a word and asking for a read back is ok, but it seems she doesn't understand what her next steps are in relation to what the ATC dialogue would be. Probably an instructor that did all the radio work for her, instead the instructor should have had her on the radio on her 2nd training flight (if she passed her radio license)

Could or should the ATC deny takeoff clearance based on her inability to communicate or read back?

@@canconservative8976 there’s no need for a radio license in the US, and even if they did, a radio license doesn’t require any tests, just paying a fee. But yes you have a valid point, maybe her flying was fine. But ATC is half of the picture. If the flight required talking to ATC, he failed to prepare her adequately.

@@Thatflyguy747 well that explains it... In Canada there is a Restricted Radio Operator Certificate - Aviation, ROC-A ... it cost money, you write a 60 question exam and then a one on one with a certified examiner who runs through scenarios. As of your 2nd training flight you as a student are making all the calls (and being corrected by the instructor off mic!)... so when you do your first solo you've already run through all those calls, including the calls in the pattern.

So he is a professional controller and she is a student struggling with radio procedures. Because he's a pro, he didn't lose his cool and belittle or abuse her. She didn't crash but she could have if he rattled her more than she was already. A person in a high stress life or death situation (as flying is) can't be bitch-slapped into competence while in an overload situation - that can happen on the ground outside the aircraft if necessary. I've heard recordings of ATCs tearing into terrified students while they are really struggling - now that's really f@#ed up.

Shortly after landing they gave her a number to copy. Followed by the controller coming out of the tower and smacking her with a wrench.

Tower: "36B, cleared to land." 36B: "Fine!" Tower: "36B, taxi Delta, cross runway 13L" 36B: "What *ever* " Tower: nothing xmitted in 15 minutes 36B: "What are you theenkeeng right now?" Tower: "36B, you are entering Class B airspace. State your intentions." 36B: "Well, I was thinking of getting dinner at this restaurant over here, so I just *happened* to be in the sky (imagine that *giggle*) and I figured it was real close by, so I'd come over and see how busy their parking lot is..."

LMAO! I worked ground occasionally while serving as an approach controller at NCA. Barley enough to stay current. When our resident training squadron was flying with me on ground things got pretty comical. Definitely the blind leading the deaf.

On my solo, my instructor had me pull up to the tower, then he got out and said, go make three takeoffs and landings. Not what I expected to hear that day. He went up into the tower(Paine Field, Everett Washington ) to keep an eye on things. I got instructions to taxi out to alpha 4, I went past it and the controller didn’t notice .... he ratted me out.. so I got nervous ( like I wasn’t already) and proceeded to make four takeoffs and landings... he razzed me all the way back to our home airport 20 miles away. But it was a great day I will never forget!

My instructor randomly got out of the plane as well, and made me do 3 takeoffs and landings in January. My leg was shaking so bad

improper readbacks, no readbacks at all, failure to understand instructions, failure to comply with instructions, can't even be bothered to have a kneeboard to write down taxi instructions?

My God. And I thought I screwed up some radio calls when soloing... Thank you ma'am for making me feel better about my past performance!

Controller did a great job at the start especially, recognised the pilot couldn't get the taxi instruction right so was going to give them step by step. Kept an eye on them when they went passed their cleared route... only so much you can take tho.

Interesting. She keeps using tail number 8263B, while the controllers are using 8236B.

I noticed that too… since the airport has a 36 runway, maybe the controller messed it up out of habit?

N8236B is a Bell helicopter registered in TX. N8263B is Cessna 172 registered in Colorado which is a long way from Joplin airport (I am assuming this is Joplin, MO). She initially said she was a student but then said she was working on her private currency. She needs a safety pilot with her.

@@conraddcruz Some schools and instructors place currency requirements on students above FAA requirements. I'm guessing that's what she might have been referring to. Maybe.

I've been flying for 40 years, both military and now commercially. Most of my flying over the last 20 years has been international, but only recently decided to return to domestic flying as a 737 Captain. Man, on my first arrival into Chicago O'Hare at rush hour, after not flying there for at least 25 years, I kind of felt a little bit like this lady did! (well, maybe not that bad, but you get the idea). Those guys rattle of taxi instructions for that spider-web airfield layout super fast, and there's no time to say "say again" before he's off to the next guy! Anyway, you guys have some mercy on her, no harm, no foul.

Lol😂🤣 this is too funny. "36 Braveaux, cleared to land"...🤣😂 Sounds like that blonde cheerleader who takes nothing seriously... But seriously though... How does an instructor let his student solo without making sure they are at least HALF competent on the radio and navigating the airport? When I went through flight school, my instructor had me fully operating the radio on my 2nd lesson... 😂🤣
