its a time trial. They arent exactly racing each other its against the clock. the cars leave the start line at intervals so they shouldn't genially meet each other on the stage. If a car comes up behind you it means your exceptionally slow or he is exceptionally fast. eather way you should let him past instead of fucking up the time of the faster car.

No, he says: "Just drive it - quicker." In Rally terms this means don't handbrake it, just drive it. It was a square left meaning a 90 degrees turn left, so quite a lot of drivers in 4WD or RWD cars would have pulled the handbrake, but seeing as this is FWD car (I think it's a Nova) it's quicker to drive and let the front wheels pull you round! :)

I've seen this a few times, but it always makes me laugh.

Back in the early 90s Rover had an unofficial Rally team manned by volunteers and did quite well. After one event in Ireland a car carrying mechanics was late for the ferry and were caught speeding by the Garda, "Ninety miles an hour! NINETY MILES AN HOUR !!! I should take yez all into Dublin an' lock you up! But if I did that yez'd miss your ferry so off you go now an' don't do it again!" Different times for sure.
