Small correction. Mermaids don't drown people they typically just wanna be left alone. Sirens drown people which are similar to Mermaids except for them mostly hanging out near rocky shores and singing to cause shipwrecks by distracting the crews with a seductive song. Chances are if Mermaids did exist they would just be trying to stay away from humans in unpolluted areas in an attempt to continue living a healthy life for as long as possible only interacting with humans once it was impossible for them to continue doing so on their own or because we forced them to interact with us by limiting their healthy habitat so much due to one reason or another. The show called "Siren" actually shows some of the potential differences due to Sirens wanting to rage war on humans. It has however nowhere in mythology been stated that Sirens and Mermaids are different or the same species so for all we know it could be similar to any form of government where one side is for something and the other is against something. Which would make one side Sirens and the other some form of idk green party I guess similar to republicans and democrats if you refer to their original believes anyway since nowadays it seems blurred and only matters which opinion gets them more votes.

Well back when the mythology was written the term asexual didn't really exist. However chances are they would still sing a seductive song. Even in the event the person isn't seduced they should still be able to appreciate the beauty within the song and get distracted thus still achieving the sirens goal of causing humans to die from our own methods. Almost every human has some relation to music since it's all around us, so a song starts playing and we instinctively listen even if we don't pay attention to it.@@esmemurnane4341

Sirens are actually bird-monsters from Greek mythology, not quite like harpies but the idea is similar. They perch and sing on rocky areas and when sailors sail towards them, they crash and fly around the ship wreck to eat them, the ship wreck isn't intended to sink, its to land lock them so their prey doesn't have an option to escape. They aren't beautiful, they are just monstrous birds who can sing like a beautiful woman who's in the mist and has the power to entice sailors with their song. The beautiful mermaids are actually the Nereides from Greek mythology and are sea nymphs.

Yeah the beams are curved for the whole picture to look like something (I suppose something in Arabic), but that's no more 'ungrammatical' than say using crazy whitespace inprogramming code to make a picture.

About eye patches on pirates; they weren't for blindness. Eye patched were to keep one eye acclimated to darkness so that when you forcibly boarded another vessel and went below deck, you could instantly see any hostile defenders. Also, seeing cargo.
