Peony season at Hildene, The Lincoln Family Home, is a special time of year. Each June over 1000 blooms on over 100 plants and shrubs, create a riot of vibrant color in the Formal Garden. Visitors flock from near and far to witness the beauty that Jessie Lincoln designed for her mother, Mary Harlan Lincoln, in 1907. The Formal Garden is an American version of the European parterre, with closely cropped privet hedges laid out to resemble a stained glass window. Although the peonies are short-lived, the blooms that unfold over the course of the next few months during Vermont's growing season, are an ever-changing landscape of perennials designed to inspire even as the leaves fall in October. Enjoy 2020's peony season in all its splendor; a gift to those who may have missed their annual visit. The spectacular peony showcase is memorable, whether seen in person or on screen!
