They do, it's called a nallo. If they increased the size of the akto anymore it would be very close to the weight of an nallo 2, then what is the point?

I disagree. Jon simply seems content with getting his legs and forehead wet. The rain jacket really compresses his bag's footbox. He doesn't even use a pillow. You can also clearly see him rubbing against the Allak's inner tent despite him saying he doesn't feel it, and has to carry a 575 gram bivy along with a tent that's just too short for him. Hilleberg tents are great, but there simply are hassle-free options for the taller folk. Vertical or very steep end walls get a thumbs up from me. 👍🏻

For sure there are tents that do fit taller people and accomplish what you are talking about, even in the Hilleberg line. Talking basic design and fabric theory though you can't find a tougher tent that weighs what they do. I have a Tarp tent, Big Agnes and REI tent that are great and fit tall pretty nice, are lighter, but I wouldn't trust them in winds over 40 mph without staying up all night, or having a snow load over 3 inches. And none of them shed water like the Kerlon although some of the fabrics are pretty great the first year, my Hilleberg gear holds its newness for more than a decade, which I can't say for the others. Lots of great tent manufacturers though. Jon doesn't use a pillow by the way...I do though.

Lying on my front with feet stretched out and a sleeping bag over them makes the Unna too short. That’s a shame because I was desperate for it to fit. Will the Soulo be better, or do I need to move up the the 2 man 3kg beauties ?

I see what you are saying really. I personally like the Kaitum line and will take the added weight for the design. I have had a good experience with the Niak and Enan, but they are a lot like all my other tents and the end where the feet are. The Kaitum has that vertical wall. The Soulo is used by so many in the UK and they have no complaints, and some are tall guys. I have become pretty good at the set and working the ventilation of all tents. I have found that I put the feet to the leeward if I think there will be a lot of condensation. And I use all my guylines regardless. Going this week with a Naturehike Cloud 3, kind of a BA Fly Creek with a crossbar, and had to add lines and stakes to the kit already. Let me know more of you thoughts if you pick up something.

Nature Calls Backpacking Thanks, Bruce. Been watching your videos again this morning (UK) and must compliment you on your results. I already have a Keron 4 and it’s a fabulous tent, the best imho because of its width. On occasion, I will relocate one set of toggles to the end elastics (so two sets of toggles on one set of elastics) and the remaining toggles to the centre. This provides a massive vestibule for cooking and entertaining, dwarfing the vestibule on the GT whilst at the same time having separate and protected sleeping quarters for one. You can only do this with the Keron 4s. Be good for you to show this on a Nature Calls video along with your ‘Kaitum trick’ of opening up the whole end of the Keron 4. BTW, when we’re camped near the car, my wife insists on a portable loo for night use and that’ll fit in a vestibule. No good for the hill though. 🧝‍♀️ Back to tent sizing : I prefer to use an Exped Lite 30” mat and of the one man tents only the Unna will accommodate the width of the mat. ATB.

There hat been one some years ago, the Keron 3 kingsize. Straight inner walls and 230 cm. A pity it is discontinued.

Hello TheTrailDancer The Staika is a great tent. Very comfortable and stable. If you were looking to have a lighter tent, for thru hikes, the Kaitum is another great option. It is an all-season tent so can handle nasty weather. It also has vertical inner tent walls, 2 vestibules, and 2 entrances for lots of comfort. Tunnel tents have the best space to weight ratio and that helps achieve comfort on long hikes. For hiking longer distances and summer use with wind and rain, I really like the new Anaris. That is a trekking pole supported tent, so make sure to account for that, but it makes it very lightweight and there is lots of space for 2 people and gear as well. Ya the Anaris looks great! Looking forward to possibly getting one!!! I’ve set up nearly all of these tents and l love the Tarra, but it’s heavy. Free standing are nice and the Staika ticks so many boxes. However, the Kaitum GT is like a palace or the Kerons, but I don’t think I’ll ever use the full capabilities of the Keron. Petra recommended the NG3GT at a show I met her at, but the angled back wall is not my fav. 😬 thanks for your thoughts.

Hello. According to the dimensions on our website, www.hilleberg.com/soulo, it looks like it is 1 cm short in the foot end of the tent. It would most likely fit, but maybe tight. Possibly a matter of personal preference and how snug the pad fits.

I'm not that tall (6'6") and I just take a 4-5 person tent that is about 240cm (8ft or so?) wide and sleep in it sideways. Not ultralight, but I'd rather carry a kilogramm more and actually sleep well.

I'm 187cm and narrowly fit in the Nallo 3GT, no idea how he does with hes length 2m

Green is my Enan's tent color. I prefer greens/browns/greys that blend in with my surroundings.

Closest to a tiny, 2 person, 4-season, tent at that height range is probably the MSR Advance Pro 2. It's a one trick pony, so there will be sacrifices.

Hey swamp gal. Our "Labels" just help categorize our tents. It divides them into Black, Red, Yellow, or Blue, Labels, each representing a performance range based on materials, construction or both,. I‘m 6‘3“ and have no real problems with my akto. Sitting upright is not the most comfortable thing, but for me it works fine!

It is there to keep stress off the zippers and poles but if the tent is staked out properly around the perimeter you can remove it if you want. Just remember to reattach it before packing it away.

@@HillebergTentmaker Yes I figured it was a restraint strap, just don't like this. If its not required and you can stake out around the perimeter what's the point of having it.

Once it is pegged out properly around the perimeter the tension on the zippers and poles are gone, that is why they are no longer needed then if you don't want it there. But most people just leave it there since when the tent is set up nicely the strap is close to the ground and not really something you trip over. :)

Yes, many tall people like the Unna since the inner tent is larger than in our other solo tents. It won't be as comfortable as the Kaitum but will give you more headroom than the Enan and Akto.

Outdoor Layne Not if you’re using your backpack as a pillow, maybe. Do that at least 50% of the time myself. Point I’m trying to get over is everybody has always known that if you want a comfortable 1 man tent then you buy a two man tent. It’s not the floor size that matters, it’s 10”, 25cm, above the floor where your feet and head touch the curve of the tent. Deduct from that the 2”+ that the fabric reduces the space under the pressure of the wind. Just sayin’.

I use allak and this tent is solid as rock, so no deformation in high wind condition. I think if the guy line is properly settled, there are no inner tent mobility for hilleberg tent structure, even if outer tents screaming.

Park Kibeom There are many videos on KZfaq showing the amount of movement a strong wind causes the Allak. Be interesting to know how yours compares with those, or the Staika which should be less affected than the Allak, maybe.

@@Super.Quasar well ... in my experience, all the tents except me were shaking(hubba hubba, montbell stellaridge, blackdiamond highlight). Allak's outer tent panel were shaking very little, and pole&inner tent were solid like a rock. I pitches tent very carefully, especially outer tent peg position(raise tension as possible) and guy line angle - parallel to the pole line and raise lengh as possible

Hello QCVT, this is Jon from Hilleberg. No magic trick, just personal preference. The Thermarest NeoAir Xlite sleeping pad, in Large, is listed as 77 in/196 cm long by 25 in/63 cm wide. I am 6'6" or 78 inches/198 cm. When I bought the NeoAir Xlite sleeping pad, I gave it a lot of thought. I tried it out and it fit me and what I wanted from that pad. I was looking for a very light sleeping pad that is good for side sleepers like myself. The NeoAir Xlite fit those needs, and it did not matter to me if it was an inch shorter than my exact same length because I do not sleep in a perfect statue position. So those are the dimensions of my sleeping system in the video and what I personally chose and use. As for sleeping bag length, I have always used “long” versions, like in the video, and those are normally 77 or 78 inches /196 or 197 cm. Also sleeping pad and bag length, like tent sizing, is a personal choice. Some ultralight hikers will use half-length sleeping pads that only cover their back/hips, or I know some people that will sleep in a smaller quilt and puffy jacket as opposed to a full-length sleeping bag for their entire body, again to save weight.
