Ajahn Chah is probably one of the most quoted and admired contemporary meditation teachers, yet he is also least properly understood. This talk is about the way of approaching his teachings correctly, on the basis of Suttas and proper self-reflection.

Thank you Bhante, I have a question regarding the practice of allowing background mood to persist. In meditation, I noticed that I start reliving about the past, and I realize this habit is caused by aversion mood before hand. So, I recalled the root cause which is the bored feeling and let that persist without letting my mind do its habit to find distracting thing to think about. So in effect I conjured the past mood and being more mindful on that to let it persist...

Yes. If you keep a corner of your eye on the enduring mood, it will be enough to prevent you from completely losing perspective and carelessly following the course of thoughts (in this case, thinking about the past).

Thank you Bhante, your comment on 'not losing perspective' is what I need to keep repeating often to myself. I was listening to your new talk on anxiety, this mood affects me stronger as I get older, and my habitual response is to find a distracting activity instead of allowing the anxiety mood persist and subside by itself
