Fantastic video! In fact, your whole series on the Himiway ebikes is invaluable. I just received mine and am watching each of your videos a second (or third time) as I assemble and set it up - before I even try to ride it. Really appreciate you taking the time to record and share these videos!

Received my step-thru today, and came to your video on assembly Tim. I thought I'd check out 'this' video, while waiting for the battery to fully charge! Assembly took me a little longer than I thought, and I used many of my own tools to make the job easier, and double checked all screws/bolts on the bike for tightness (including the kick stand) and even checked and inflated the tires up to 20 psi. Looking forward to getting on and riding, as my bike took 5 1/2 months to get to me here in southwest Canada. UPS delivered a day early which was nice, albeit it was delivered to my next door neighbours place. My bike came very dusty (looked like it was in a wood mill somewhere!) so I've now gave it a good cleaning, and will check out more of your video's before proceeding for my first ride! Thanks Tim, your video's are very helpful indeed!

My Himiway ebike Hello Tinkering Turtle. I got mine yesterday, ordered 2/10 and received it yesterday 2/27. I use your videos to set up all the function of the bike. I noticed on this bike, the limiter can only be adjusted to a maximum of 45. Once you get to 45, it doesn’t let you go any further. Thank you for all these useful videos you make. I really appreciate your work.
@TinkeringTurtle
@TinkeringTurtle 3 жыл бұрын
That is how the new bikes come. Even though you could adjust it to 90 before, the bike still only went 45. So there is no real difference.

thankyou for your excellent video instructions. They are a fantastic reference tool. I received my regular cruiser a couple of months ago and love riding it. We had to wait for my wife to receive her step-thru and just received it a couple of days ago. Assembly was a breeze this time and following your setup instructions for the controls was icing on the cake. Unfortunately we had some issues with this cruiser shifting through the gears. We could not get into first and sometimes second gear. This in turn made it difficult for my wife on her first ride. I searched for information on the process to adjust the shifting mechanism and had very little luck until I stumbled into a video showing adjustment of a shifter that was similar. If you are so inclined I think an instruction video from you on this might be of great benefit to those of us renewing our interest in bike riding. Thank you again for all you have already shown us. Keep pedaling.

When we met up the seller gave me a quick run down of how everything worked, but who knows how much of that i'll actually remember since I wont be able to ride until Muskegon thaws out from the ice storm a bit more.. Again your videos are letting me customize the bike my way. Before I got my bike I was watching your videos to see what might be done if or when necessary. After the brake adjustment video and doing the adjustment to my front brake. I was riding really good but way to fast at the start. The 0 to 5 speeds when starting in #1 assist was like a rocket going off as the bike lurched forward. I am use to my slow Recumbent or Mountain Bike starts. Adjusting the power assist from 0 - 5 to 0 - 9 , level # 1 is way more civilized for starting and topping out in a nice 7 MPH bracket. Test riding it I got to level 6 and after going back for my hat this decision was made. I would keep # 7 ,# 8 and # 9 in reserve for when a Cheetah ( If one ever escapes from the Zoo ) thinks I am fair game. lol

Hello Tim, I looked through the video time stamps, and I'm not seeing one where to change from 'miles' to 'kilometres' for us Canadian and European Himiway owners? It does state in the manual that came with the bike, that I need to find U-1 (imperial) and U-2 for (metric), in the General Settings, but doesn't state how to get to these U settings. Not sure if I can just keep hitting the 'I' button to continue further, and thought I'd ask, as I'm sure others have possibly looked for this setting as well.
@TinkeringTurtle
@TinkeringTurtle 3 жыл бұрын
After the eBike system is switched on, to access general settings menu, hold both the “+” button and the “-” button for 2 s. Get to the “U” screen. U represents unit settings, “1” is mile and “2” is kilometer. To convert unit, press the “+” button or the “-” button to increase or decrease until the desired setting is displayed. To store a changed setting, press the “i” button and then access trip distance clearance settings. To store a changed setting, hold the “i” button for 2 s and then exit general setting

Hey my friend, would you know why my himiway mph setting won't go past 45?
@TinkeringTurtle
@TinkeringTurtle 3 жыл бұрын
That is due to the updated firmware used in the 2021 Himiway ebikes. 45kph is equal to 28mph. Even though I can set that setting to 99kph, my bike only goes 28mph with throttle only. Some people report being able to go faster, but they tend to be pedaling using PAS. So there is no real way to prove that setting it higher has ANY significant real world affect. I hope this helps!

Great turtorial , I just purchased one of these bikes and received it 3/23/21 all these functions I could set per my specifications except for the speed limiter , could only raise it to 45 . Is this because I have a newer bike or because there may be another step I need to perform ? Please let me know. So far my top speed is 28mph.

Glad it helped. My bike, although I can set it to 90kph...still tops out at 28mph. So there is no real difference. Just a firmware update to limit the input number.

Both the battery and the controller have their limits to what they can do . I think there might be a limiter to prevent burning it out.

Thanks for sharing, my video does refer to the 2020 version of the bikes. From what I have read some of the newer bikes do and some don’t depending on the version of the screen you have. It seems like this would be a safety issue, so I am not sure if this is a good thing or not.

As far as I know the speed limit is the same for PAS and for the throttle. The speed limiter section is at time stamp 10 min 17 sec. This should apply to the throttle too. Keep in mind that newer bikes cannot be changed like my version of the bike. I believe, from what I have read, that the new bikes are limited to around 24mph.

Unfortunately I haven’t seen a Cobra in person. But I don’t typically see a setting on Himiways that adjust the throttle setting. Are you, by chance, in Europe or state side? If your in Europe or the UK, I believe that those settings are locked in by law.

Hi! great video tutorial. Just wondering what are the advantages of resetting the PAS level from the factory default of 0 to 5, to 0 to 7 or 9? Does it limit your range or draw more battery power. Thanks!
@TinkeringTurtle
@TinkeringTurtle 3 жыл бұрын
The higher the number of PAS levels, the more gradual the acceleration curve. Also at 0-5, PAS level 1 will start you out at 50% power, while at 0-9 it will only start you out at 25%. Much smoother and more steps up giving you that gradual increase and more control over PAS power.

Hi Tim! Great video. I got mine yesterday and my LS only goes up to 45. I am wondering if that is keeping my top speed restricted since on my first ride I was only able to go about 25MPH. Or is it possible that cold weather slows down the top speed as it was 15 degrees Fahrenheit? I weigh about 190 so I assumed I would get up to 28 or 29 at least.
@TinkeringTurtle
@TinkeringTurtle 3 жыл бұрын
Even though I can change my LS setting to 90, my bike is still limited to 45. (45 km/h = 28 mph) It sounds like Himiway or the display manufacturer has now restricted being able to set it higher than 45. But the speed limiter has always been 45. There are a number of factors that go into top speed using throttle. At 15 degrees, all lubricants change viscosity. Bearings don’t roll as easy. Batteries can lose some power etc. I would not be too worried at this point, wait until spring/summer and try again. I hope this helps!

Hi, like your videos. Question, if I unlock the speed setting to allow the bike to go to max speed, does this also change the amount of power I have under the percentage settings. In other words if have Level 1 set at 25% with the speed setting now unlocked to max speed will Level 1 now be faster? Thanks
@TinkeringTurtle
@TinkeringTurtle Жыл бұрын
No, I don’t believe so. The limiter just stops the motor at a given speed. If you take it off then it will allow the motor to run past that speed but the power distribution hasn’t changed.

Love your videos. I would like to know about what gear you should ride in and when to shift? Thanks Bernie
@TinkeringTurtle
@TinkeringTurtle 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Bernie, the answer is subjective. Here is the baseline, the Himiway step-thru and cruiser come set to pedal assist (PAS) levels set to 0-5. I changed ours to 0-7. My wife and I are comfortable at these levels. As you increase gears (1-7) the pedaling gets harder. As you increase the PAS level (0-7) the motor puts out more power making it easier to pedal. So you need to balance the two and get to a comfortable or desired pedal effort. Typically if it want a light pedal effort I use PAS 2, gear 5. As I want to increase speed and keep a similar pedal effort I increase them both up 1 at a time. So PAS 3, gear 6...Etc. If I want to pedal harder, then you would use PAS 2, gear 6 or 7. a And you would get a better workout. Make sense?
