I remember falling in love with this piece at the 2020 MMEA Convention. I would stop early for All State Band rehearsal so I could watch the Missouri All-Colliegate Band under Dr. Allan McMurray rehearse. This was one of the pieces they played and I immediately fell in love with it listening to the trombone feature.

What a coincidence! I played this in the MMEA (Massachusetts Music Educators Assoc.) Allstate Band in Springfield in 1973! Just listening to it brings me back to those four days. What instrument did you play? I was in the first flute section. This is a powerful and smashing piece! I loved playing it!

@@riveliur7917 My favorite memory while watching you guys rehearse has so be when I walked in and all of the sudden I hear the director shout "Gosh Darn Son-of-a-gun" in the rhythm of the last notes of the piece, and the entire band repeated. Fun times, can't wait to get back to that place next week

Played French Horn on this in High School Band at John Marshall High School in San Antonio, TX in 1989 under direction of James Miculka, currently the NISD director of Arts. We performed this in Washington DC. We killed it. Every phrase; every rehearsed line brings back so many memories. Thank you James Miculka & the amazing music teachers and band directors that served the age of pre-smartphone & excellence.

I'm in greenwood lakes middle school and I play clarinet but when I heard this song for our bell work, I loved it more than anything to the point where I can't stop listening to it.

Got to play this piece in 2000 with the Marian Catholic High School Symphonic Band conducted by Greg Bimm, one of the greatest band directors in American history.
