In this we learn the following things:-
a) How the switch works.
In these we learn how Switch work in Ethernet Network .We learn about how one user (pc) send message to other User (pc) with the help of Switch .It uses Mac address as address to send information/msg from one pc to other.Switch learn mac address of the pc in from of a table when one pc send msg to other it work as
Message Sender Mac add Destination Mac add
b) Concept of Unicast and Broadcast
i) Unicast:- one to one communication (example :- Sending Msg to One person)
In this we use single address to communicate.
Only two pc communicate with it.
ii)Broadcast :- One to all communication (eg.- Sending msg to a group(Broadcast) )
if mac add is F.F.F.F (48 bit mac add) then it is a Broadcast.
c) How switch learn its table (CAM or MAC table )
( Content Addressable Memory) or (Media Access Control Address)
As we send messages from host to destination so firstly we send msg to all the system which is connected to our Ethernet network .All pc coonected to this Ethernet Network check the frame (Layer 2 Unit) & check that frame conatians there mac address as destination .if it contains that mac address in the frame and reply then Switch will learn that Mac add in its table.
It learn its mac address & port no as the pc communicate themseleves.it save there mac add and port no in from of a table .
d) How multiple Ethernet network get connected.
Ethernet Network is easy and widely use to short distance but if we use to communicate two different pc of different Ethernet Network then we have to use “Router” for the communication
e) IP and MAC address requirement.
As we know Router is use to communicate two different network .
But problem arise that ‘’Router only works on Ip address & Switch works on Mac add’
