I was born in India have studied hindi for almost 9 years in school and still i find number system of hindi difficult and punjabi too as rules are same with total difference in pronunciation. Ahhhh it's difficult to deal if you are taught 3 languages at once.

SaaT and sath are very similar, and while I see the explanation below about soft T and hard TH, it's very difficult to tell the difference. I'm mostly worried about screwing up my pronunciation because I am not making the subtle difference. Could you please make a pronunciation video that goes through the various consonant and vowel sounds, especially those that differ from English?

THE NUMBER SYSTEM WE USE TODAY ARE NEITHER ARAB NOR HINDI. MODERN NUMBERS ARE TOTALLY DIFFERENT AND OTHER THAN A CHARACTER OR TWO BEAR NO RELATIONSHIP TO MODERN NUMBERS.. NEITHER ARAB NOR HINDI NUMBERS RESEMBLE MODERN NUMBERS WHICH CLEARLY PROVES SOMEONE ALTERED HISTORY OR MADE ONE OF THE BIGGEST MISTAKES THAT STILL HASN'T BEEN CORRECTED. SO TO CORRECT THIS BIG MISTAKE THE NUMBER SYSTEM WE USE TODAY WAS CREATED BY THE CHRISTIAN MONKS. NUMBERS ARE SYMBOLICAL OF ANGLES. AFTER THE DEVELOPMENT OF OUR MODERN NUMBER SYSTEM THE MONKS THEN DEVELOPED MUSICAL NOTATION WHICH ALSO LIKE THE NUMBER SYSTEM WE USE TODAY IS USED ALL OVER THE WORLD.

how do I find a pronounciation difference from saaT(seven) and sath(sixty)?
@hindipod101
@hindipod101 8 жыл бұрын
+hizrainlighthoney Hi hizrainlighthoney, "SaaT" (seven) ends with a soft "T" like in Japanese "taa" or in French "trois". "Saath" (sixty) ends with a hard "th" sound, almost like the English 'T'. It can be difficult to hear the difference initially, but with more exposure to the sounds you may start to hear/pronounce them. Hope you find it helpful! Best, Udita Team HindiPod101.com

i'm not a hindi speaker, but linguistically it can be explained like that: there are four different 't-like' sounds (same with the 'd-like' sounds): त /t/ the basic t sound (like in 'steak' /stɛjk/), थ /tʰ/ "aspirated" sound - breathy, almost like with an extra 'h' sound after it (like in 'tea' /tʰiː/ or 'tilt' /tʰɪlt/ (depending on the regional accent)), ट /ʈ/ "retroflex" sound - rolling your tongue backwards (simmilar to the english r /ɹ/), and ठ /ʈʰ/ "aspirated" and "retroglex" ... same goes for द, ध, ड, and ढ but with the 'd' sound so सात (seven) is pronounced just simply [saat] (IPA: /sʌːt/) साठ (sixty) is pronounced the same way but with an "aspirated" and "retroflex" sound (IPA: /sʌːʈʰ/) and here's what the "retroflex" t sounds like: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voiceless_retroflex_stop
@EricJeanMawrie
@EricJeanMawrie 6 жыл бұрын
for seven, सात, the tip of the tongue touches the back of the upper teeth. this is called dental. for sixty, साठ, the tongue is slightly curled backwards with a slight puff of air on release. this is called postalveolar.
@EricJeanMawrie
@EricJeanMawrie 6 жыл бұрын
Maximilian Kulikov actually the so called 'retroflex' sounds in hindi are actually postalveolar. real reyroflex sounds are found in dravidian languages spoken in southern india.

First of all it's not true at all there are many irregularities. You have to learn each one and can't fuse all. And don't feel demotivated if you aren't able to grasp these numbers. Being a native hindi speaker, I couldn't memorize them all until I was 12 or 13. Now I am 15.
