Potion Permit is a fun cozy game that takes place in Moonbury, a town that lost faith in science. In this game, you are the town healer who collects materials and creates potions to help the whole town while you upgrade your potion license.

You introduced me to this game, and I love it so much! Learning more about the character’s backstories, making potions, and learning about Moonbury’s history! Obviously, it’s not perfect, the medical mini-games get repetitive after a while, you can’t actually marry your love interest, just go on dates, and personally, I wish there was another way to save other than going to bed (which starts a new day) I’ve been playing this game since you recommended it and I’ve basically been playing it everyday, even started a whole new save so I could romance a different character (sorry Xiao🥺) But all in all, there’s a lot of fun in this game for just $20, and it’s so good to hear that the developers are actively updating the game🫶🏽🫶🏽🫶🏽

Yes! they will be adding more romanceable characters, arcade games, new side quests and FARMING!! I cannot wait!

I rented this game when it came out,and I liked it..except for a teleport bug that would teleport me to a place where I could run around a little,but couldn't get out of...it was frustrating and I saved my game everytime I needed to teleport in case it happened then I just shut the game down and restarted it..I decided not to keep it because of that annoying bug,but I've been reading that the devs are working on fixing stuff and there's probably been a few patches released since I had the game,so I'm going to give it another try because I really liked this game alot

It's so sad that the Eurogamer review is one of the first to show when you search potion permit. I am so glad I gave the game a chance because I love it. The design is so cute and the characters are so well written. There's some room for improvement but the team seems to be working hard to update it. Which is a lot more than other, more well known games do.

The only major thing this game seems to be missing is larger portraits to properly represent characters, but otherwise it looks great! Will be getting soon.

Back when I played it a couple months ago... I dunno, it just bored me after a while. I liked it in the start, but it really bored me to just grind ingredients, talk to the villagers, diagnose (for way to long, mini game should be shorter), and maybe fish if i have to. There just wasn't much to do. I generally like grinding, but only when there are other things to do than rhythm mini games. Maybe I'll try it again, see if it's any better. Either way, the dev should add more things to do. Adding variety would make the game way, way better. Add a reason to help the villager aside from reputation. Maybe being consistent in you treatment for a given amount of days (or what have you) will give you access to some reward or new... Something, i dunno. You can just leave patients untreated and all thats gonna happen is a reputation hit, and then they'll be gone for a while and come back, no problem. Maybe they could get a permanent injury or some sort, that will lower their opinion of you and possibly change their schedule, maybe even making a shop inaccessible during (more) days of the week (cause they are all closed at least one day of the week), and the only way to cure this injury is to make an special, expensive potion and gift it to them. I dunno. A lot the problems I had with the game are very fixable.

I think this feedback makes a really great point. For me, it reminded me of the OG harvest moon days where there’s really not much motivation to keep going, just grinding farming to get rich and get more animals or a bigger farm or unlock random cut scenes. The predictability and simplicity with a twist of a new application like potion making etc. is very fresh yet familiar. But with today’s gaming landscape this can be thought of as boring since it’s not the norm anymore. I find myself picking it up when I just want something simple to relax my brain before I go to sleep.

I watched your review, then I watched the review from the person who hates it. I agree so much more with you, I think people who hate it are expecting too much from a cozy game to be honest. Stardew valley had lots of bugs until they updated it a couple times, these things take time! Such a cute game for the small price of twenty dollars!

Thanks! I’m glad we shared the same opinion. There was a recent update where they added a grow box so you can plant. So I think the devs are still making more additions to it.

Looks like fishing is easier here than in Stardew 😅 I love pixel art and this looks like a good game :0 maybe for my birthday next month

Fishing here is definitely easier than stardew valley. It’s also less intense and more cues so you don’t mess it up. 🙌🏼

I haven’t heard of Shovel Knight so I’m not sure how to react. But I think Potion Permit is more than decent, it’s definitely above average.

I love the pixel art of that game, and I also enjoy senseless destruction, remember kids, even though you cant legally chop trees and smash stones today, you can still violate the forests tomorrow. But to be honest im kinda torn between buying this game and Kynseed, Travelers rest and Graveyard keeper, all the games are somewhat similar but the latter 2 lack a character creator as well other things, Kynseed has a lot more I want from a life simulator as well as Potions permit, but that one is too grindy and lacks a fair bit of content. If I had to say what game im looking for than it would be a life simulator like those with a cute and appealing graphics like Kynseed or Potions Permit where you dont just become a jack of all trades or are set on a singular path, but rather you progress with your skills and the way you spend the points you have will determine your profession which ofc will have its own set of quests and exclusive encounters. Its kind of hard to explain when I think about it cause I like so many elements of those games but they are never exactly what I look for

I feel the same way as you do!! I like the game you described and I’m hoping a game like that comes soon! I hope you can share more games that you play since I’m kinda interested. Games I enjoyed playing are Stardew Valley, Sun Haven, and Little Witch in the Wood. I just started playing Potions Permit, but I’m looking to play Kynseed as well some time after finishing Potions Permit ☺️

I agree. I have yet to have found that games that are more holistic is more on the story of seasons style but not this type of art style. But i do have a few games on my list to try and ill keep this in mind when reviewing them.

Little Witch in the Woods has a great potential for it to be all these things but they havent released the full game yet so we will see!

I want this but was reading steam reviews and a lot of the reviews were saying it's way too grindy when it comes to gathering stone/wood.

It’s a decent game. The grinding gets easier once you open other areas. It’s definitely a slow paced game, so being goal focused works against you.

I just reach end game on mobile and I have to say, I agree with your pov, the game is relaxing, not too heavy fighting, kinda stardew vally style, but the mobile version is sad, sad because there too many problems from the UI, bugs and lags, even the Ranger's shop doesn't work so I have to run every places just to gathering ingredients, and for a pixel game that seems only 30fps, it heating my phone like a frying pan. If not because of those problems it could be a good cozy game

Ooh I played this on the switch and they also had a few issues right upon release but they’re all fixed after release. Maybe they’re currently fixing it but yeah not a good look for early players if they never check back in the game because of the issues. :(

Hmm im not sure. My switch broke so i haven’t logged into this game for a while. It save data cloud though so it’s not like i lost my save.

I absolutely adored this game!!! It’s simplistic gameplay is very cozy and I loved meeting all the different characters in the game

Yes! And the characters aren’t very generic/stereotypical. They kept each one very interesting with concise dialogues and back stories

People who don't feel robbed after buying this unfinished mess with overpriced dlc are complete idiots. You wan't a cozy stardew valley like game ? Try littlewood, World of Dawn, Grow : Song of the Evertree, My time at Portia/Sandrock, Kynseed, Ooblets
