Kate Bush isn't a one hit wonder by any means, Kate has had 24 Top 40 UK singles. She has set numerous UK single and album records. With the success of "Running Up That Hill" in 2022, Kate became the first female artist to have had Top Twenty UK hit singles in 6 consecutive decades, the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, 2000s, 2010s and 2020s. Kate was a co-producer on her 1980 3rd studio album "Never For Ever" on which she used the Fairlight CMI for the first time. For every subsequent studio akbum Kate has been the sole producer. Kate's discography is worth diving into, because her work is of such high quality. If you're interested in continuing your Kate Bush journey, I would certainly encourage you to continue as I'm sure that you will find it to be a rewarding experience. If you're unsure about what singles to react to, I'm sure that either myself or others will be happy to assist you. As for me, I've been a fan since the very beginning, when I saw the official "white dress" music video of "Wuthering Heights" that sealed the deal. It also helped that she came from the same part of South East London

Hi and thanks for this. Kate Bush is one of the very few people in the entire spectrum of Rock/Pop music who truly are worthy of the term "genius." John Lennon was a fan. Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin) called her a genius. Elton John spoke of her as being a once in a lifetime talent. Prince called her his favourite woman. David Gilmour (Pink Floyd) has spoken of her as being completely unique in all of popular music, unlike anyone else before or after her. Tupac was fan, as is Big Boi. Bjork has spoken on a number of occasions of the impact Kate Bush had on her. Sinead O'Connor had her as an early music hero(ine). Dusty Springfield spoke about being staggered at her talent. Chrissie Hynde (The Pretenders) described as a person with what she called a 'perfect voice.' Patti Smith called her a 'UFO' in terms of her intrusion into and impact on the ordinary everyday music. Alanis Morissette said that it was listening to Kate Bush was what made her want to be a singer. Stevie Nicks (Fleetwood Mac) spoke about wanting to cover this very song in your video but said she never would, because if you can't beat the original then you are wasting your time, and went to say that nobody could beat what Kate Bush did. Annie Clark(St. Vincent) after being asked to do a cover for this song, and agreeing to do it, for the 2023 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony said that Kate Bush's voice is "like watching a flame across the skies [...] nobody should cover Kate Bush!” From Punk Rock, John Lydon aka Johnny Rotten (Sex Pistols) has called her music 'beauty beyond belief' and has described it as everything that music is supposed to be, and called her 'a gift.' From within the more harder, heavy, or metal Rock Music spectrum, members of Metallica, Judas Priest, Megadeth, Def Leppard, Venom, Bathory, and a host of others are known to be fans. From Jazz, award winning singer Cecile McClorin Salvant has spoken about being obsessed with her music since she was about 16. From classical music, Nigel Kennedy, at one time the biggest selling classical musician in the world had called her one of the greatest composers of the last century and likened her influence on Rock/Pop music to the influence Jimi Hendrix had on guitarists. In relation to her career and wondering whether she might have been a 'one hit wonder' there was a week in 2014, (over 35 years after the beginning of her career), when she had 8 albums in the UK top 40 album chart, which put behind only Elvis Pressley and The Beatles for that level of presence in the official UK album top 40. She achieved all this having only ever having done 1 proper tour at the beginning of her career. In 2022 this song in your video pretty much conquered the world, including the USA after it was used in the Netflix show 'Stranger Things.' This was done despite the fact that she has never performed so much as 1 proper concert in the US. To get an idea of the sheer breadth of her talent you could do worse than take a listen to 'The Man With The Child In His Eyes' a song she wrote at 13 years of age and recorded when she was 16. Thanks again. Hope you keep delving into the career of this remarkable woman.

Just add a couple of points, Kate's sole concert tour in 1979, later to be known as "The Tour Of Life," was unlike any series of concerts that came before it, Kate wanted the audience to have theatrical experience and she sought to combine "music, dance, poetry, mime, burlesque, magic and theatre". Visual projections were used during the because for some of the songs Kate was dancing, an early form of a wireless microphone was created. Kate was heavily involved in all aspects of the production, including developing the choreography and the costumes (there were seventeen costum changes during the concert). Unfortunately, in 1979, I was a student and wasn't able to see Kate live. To date, the only other time that Kate has performed a series of concerts was the 2014 concert residency "Before The Dawn" which consisted of 22 dates, when tickets went on sale they all sold out in 15 minutes. Just like "The Tour Of Life" before it "Before The Dawn" was designed to be groundbreaking a full mult-media experience, and once again, Kate was very involved in all aspects of the staging. Thankfully, this time, I was one of the very lucky people who managed to purchase a ticket, and the concert was an unbelievable experience. Only a Bjork concert a few years later at the London O2 came anywhere near to it. "Before The Dawn" did win a theatre award in the UK, which Kate accepted on behalf of the entire crew. The word genius does tend to get overused, but Kate is the very definition of a genius, and I'm so grateful that I was able to listen to her music and see her performing live.

Can't believe you don't know Kate Bush. This is from her "Hounds of Love". Every song on the album is fantastic. Side one is pop side two is a concept suite "The Ninth Wave". Read up on her, she's pretty amazing.

No, not a one-hit-wonder. Kate is one the greatest ever female artists (arguably the greatest), who last year was inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The list of famous singers (male and female) who cite her as a major influence is immense (see her Wikipedia page). A little too artsy and prog for American tastes in the early days of her career (she only toured once, and never in America) but she was huge elsewhere around the globe.

I would hardly put her up there so high or even suggest that she’s the greatest, that is a laughable statement

@95KIPPIE Big Bio of OutKast calls Kate Bush a major influence. David Gilmore and Peter Gabriel though she was utterly amazing and produced and performed with her. Prince produced one of her records. Withering Heights was once of the first music videos which she wrote, choreographed, produced. She was the first female vocalist to top British charts since Vera Lynn. First ever with an original song written by the artist. Running Up that Hill broke a world record for being the oldest female vocalist with a number one song (she held the youngest female vocalist to have a number one song) oldest orginal song and longest time between being number one and returning to number one.

That very much sounds like one of the "Most Wuthering Heights Day Ever" events held annually around the world, where close to Kate's birthday peoole get together and dance to "Wuthering Heights" repeating the dance moves from the "Red Dress" version of the official music, hence why people who take part tend to be wearing red dresses or red clothing.

I sense that you are going to fall for the enigma thst is Kate. She was discovered by David Gilmore from Pink Floyd and signed to EMI at age 16. She had written over 200 songs by then! So they chose thr material for the debut album The Kick Inside, recorded in 1977 and released in Feb 1978. It immediatly raced up the charts to number one with 'Wuthering Heights' and 'the Man with the Child in his Eyes' She was granted total creative control which was unheard of for an artist so young. The debut was ranked among tbe greatest albums of the 70s. She soon began producing herself and was constantly innovating and experimenting, delving into very intense themes in her songwriting. She is a living legend and has a fan base tbat is crazily devoted. She is sdored even by the high ranking artists Elton John, Peter Gabriel, Prince, Eric Clapton, David Gilmore, Bjork, John Lindon, Tricky...the list goes on and on..

I think I have at least one copy of all of her albums. She really was more in the “college radio” airplay realm and not the mainstream radio.

Yes, certainly in America, but in the rest of the world, Kate had a far greater impact. Although, when the "Hounds Of Love" album was released together with "Running Up That Hill," she did make some impact in the mainstream Billboard charts. Of course, it was only in 2022 and Stranger Things that Kate's visibility in America reached epic proportions.

That video was misleadingly titled ‘live’. It was only live in the sense that Kate and her band were there in body lip syncing to a recording of the song.

You may have heard bits of this song because it became a hit again a few years ago after being featured in the show Stranger Things. Kate is definitely not a one hit wonder, but I’m not sure how popular she got in America. She’s huge around the world, though.
