Apparently, it took quite a while to make the video because Freddie had to have regular breaks. The look into the camera at the end says it all, goodbye. It still brings a lump to the throat all these years later.

This song was written by Roger Taylor, the drummer mostly about his life and his children. With the circumstances behind Freddie’s illness and his prognosis, they decided to do it with Freddie. It is a beautiful, but sad song. It was the last video with Freddie performing with the band. His was very ill, but still could manage to perform and belt out some of his most powerful lyrics....only months before his death. At the end he says his own “Goodbye” when he says, “ I Still Love You.” What a brave, strong and courageous man he was. Enjoy♥️

Freddie was still so beautiful here, with a more ethereal look than before he got sick. His voice was still so strong, and his courage was amazing. He was in a lot of pain. He had to wear loose clothes with soft layers underneath because his skin hurt. And one foot was in such bad condition he could hardly walk. If you watch the making of this video you will notice that. There's a version in color where you can see that a lot of makeup was used to cover the Kaposi's sarcoma scars on his face. This was such a bitter-sweet farewell. I think the song was not written for this occasion, but it is certainly fitting.

It was originally written about his kids and life if he Im not mistaken and it seemed at the time more fitting for this occasion. Roger felt with Fred being sick it felt right. But now the song is associated with loosing Freddie. Something like that. Anyone can correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks. I love this song and video. Freddie at the end saying I love you just gives ya chills. Still so missed.

We did not actually know he was dying. He did not announce it until the day before he died. I do remember seeing this video at the time and thinking how sick he looked but did not know for a fact. I remember not being shocked when it was announced (because of this video) but being shocked when they announced he died the next day. He was just short of the HIV drug cocktail of the early 90s that has made AIDS not so much of a death sentence. His partner Jim was "lucky" enough to get HIV later in the 80s (probably from Freddie) and was able to get the HIV cocktail; though, he died of lung cancer 9 years later, not AIDS.

Freddie wanted to work right up to the end. One of the things he asked the others to do was keep writing words for him to sing and this they did. His last song he ever recorded with Queen was called Mother Love and Brian said that he was so sick then that he had to prop himself up to sing. Brian said they recorded the first verse and chorus with Freddie and he asked Freddie before hand if he thought he could handle it. After the first verse Freddie said he needed to go home and rest and he would come back to finish but he never made it back so Brian finished it for him so Brian's voice is on the second verse. So sad but Freddie was Freddie right to the end. Another song they recorded late in his sickness was, The Show Must Go On and Brian asked Freddie if he was ok to do it and Freddie drank down some Vodka and said "Darling i'll do it" and sang it in one take. If you listen to it you would never believe a person as sick as Freddie was then could have such a powerful accurate voice. He was truly amazing and will forever be loved and missed.

alice k Actually, Freddie sang the 1st and 2nd verses, and Brian sang the final verse when Freddie never could get back into the studio. He had also quit smoking the last few years of his life and that’s part of the reason his voice was so much clearer & powerful - besides his sheer determination.

Beautiful! Its so good to see your Queen reactions! I love how Freddie just wore his heart on his sleeves and his waistcoat for this video, that he expressed that not only was he a superb artist, but also what a loving person he was. Though he didn't have any children of his own, he really loved cats and was such a devoted cat daddy any animal lover would be proud of. The vest he's wearing has pictures of his beloved fur babies. Brian, John, and Roger (fyi played the conga drums) are doing their best to keep a stiff upper lip. Imagine how that must of just ate at them inside to watch him waste away. Freddie was really like a brother to them, not just their frontman and bandmate. Even now, the bond they shared with Freddie is so strong, not even death could break it! Regarding Adam Lambert, I generally think he fits Queen like a glove! He completely honor's Freddie's memory (during concerts he gave a regular speech of how he's not Freddie, Freddie is the only true rock god, he's not a replacement, he's just a fan like everyone else), Adam does a wonderful job carrying on the torch, Adam has got the vocal chops, stage presence and his chemistry with Brian and Roger is just infectiously electric! Of course, Brian and Roger are in no danger whatsoever of loosing their skills! In fact, on top of Brian calling Adam the GFG (Gift from God), he and Roger started calling Adam their “slightly younger brother” during last summer’s rhapsody tour. To really get at the heart of the band, three documentaries I highly recommend (not necessarily to react to) are "The days of our lives"-kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mrljibSlnKy9d6c.html "The show must go on-the Queen+Adam Lambert story" drive.google.com/file/d/1xdLjOiVQPKLWNcccW1hTVmPjGDwXuLSw/view which continues right where "The days of our lives" documentary left off and "Freddie Mercury The untold story" kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rrepe614zbG4e4E.html enjoy.

I can give you a thought, its my thought but I will put my 2 cents in. I saw Queen in 1982 with Freddie - yes it was excellent, it was the Hot Space tour, and so alot of the songs were new to us, and of course they played their standards, We Will Rock You, We Are The Champions, BohRhap, so it was fresh. flash ahead 32 years to 2014 and I saw Queen and Adam Lambert. again amazing concert - same songs as 1982 - no Freddie. However, Adam never claimed to be Freddie, and he says so, but what is good is that he is bringing the Queen music to a whole new generation. it was amazing to see teenagers, some with parents, some with friends, rocking to the music I was rocking to when I was their age. so do I ignore the fact that Adam is with the band? No not at all. its great to see the new generation listening and liking Queen.
@geomarierock3061
@geomarierock3061 4 жыл бұрын
I think Adam was the best choice for them. No, he is not Freddie but he is not trying to be Freddie, just bring the music of him to a new generation. They couldn't have a Freddie impersonator (like Mark Martel) because that would be like they were trying to replace Freddie. Instead they went with a flamboyant showman with a great range (just like Freddie, the person that originally sang the songs). As these video's have shown, this one included since Roger wrote it, the band was not just Freddie (actually on tour now, Roger sings it). Most of the reaction videos have been Brian or Roger's songs, not Freddie's. They all wrote songs and Brian and Roger both could've (and have) been front men had their band not contained the greatest frontman of all time. Queen really was the 4 of them and no other combination could have made the songs they did. Right now, the two original bandmates (Brian and Roger were in a band together before Queen which Freddie was a fan) are carrying on and the person who played piano live for Freddie during their last 2 tours so Freddie could move around the stage (The Works and It's a Kind of Magic on top of Live Aid) is still touring with the band (Spike). I do not begrudge Brian and Roger carrying on at all.

Great reaction. Love the song but very rarely listen to it. It wasn't meant to be about Freddie but boy, does it ever apply. It's painful to hear and even more painful to watch. Yeah, AIDS ravaged him and left him incredibly sickly and in pain. This was actually his last video appearance. That final "I still love you" was a direct last message to all his fans. Even then, he was still thinking about us and trying to leave behind music that would live on. For a little pick-me-up from around the same time period, react to Headlong. Freddie's very sick (it was filmed in October and November of 1990 - he passed in November 91) but him and the guys are having an absolute blast. It's nice seeing them have fun together now knowing what's to come.

Hi Fabian, I’m just now going through your Queen playlist and love your reactions so far. In this one, you mentioned that you knew Adam Lambert was playing with the band and you were curious about the time after Freddie passed and when Adam started collaborating with them. There is a documentary on Netflix called The Show Must Go On that covers the time after Freddie passed and how they kept Queen relevant. John retired, Brian and Roger eventually learned about Adam Lambert and they are selling out stadiums that they did 40 years ago. I know people have strong opinions about Adam Lambert and he is the first to say that he’s not Freddie. But Brian and Roger asked him to sing Queen songs. And since they are selling out stadiums, there are still people who want to hear these songs. I’m happy for Brian and Roger because they are enjoying being able to tour and play these songs. In the documentary, Brian thanks Adam Lambert because if not for him, they’d all be home and he’s thankful to be able to be on stage again. You should check out that documentary.

Hi Fabian, I recently found your channel as I was watching Queen reactions. I’m a long time fan and I love seeing new people discover queen and go down the rabbit hole as you have. I have been following your playlist And got to this video. I know I’m a couple years late and you have learned a lot about this time in Freddie’s life. I recently saw a documentary where Brian May the guitarist said that Freddie would Ask him to just write lyrics and he would sing them because he wanted to get as much recorded as he could before he passed and then told the other guys to put it together afterwards. At one point Freddie was singing and had to stop before the last lyrics of the song and said that he would come back to finish it but he never did. I don’t know the name of this song but Brian had to sing the final lyric. In this reaction you were asking about what the band did after Freddie died and when Adam Lambert started singing with them. There is a documentary called the show must go on with Brian and Roger which is kind of a timeline.from then until now and the fact that they are very happy to visit arenas 40 years later and play classic Queen songs for old and new fans. The documentary is on Netflix or you can watch it on KZfaq. I have enclosed the links below. I’m looking forward to watching the rest of your playlist. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/brB8gJtnq928hXU.html part 1 kzfaq.info/get/bejne/it6HY7Weq9CrmXk.html part 2

Good reaction, you were clever enough to almost put things together. As most comments mentioned this was Freddie's last video. As for the replacement singers, I do have problem with them, they mostly sound empty and soulless. Most singers who sings covers of Queen songs, along with Adam Lambert, are all very technically trained singers. Freddie sometimes had a bit of an operatic style to his singing, but his roots always lay in the blues and soulful singers. He loved Aertha Franklin, Robert Plant and Jimi Hendrix. As I said, he did not always sing with soul, but he sometimes did, he did have soul. Rock groups from the 50's - 90's, were based on the blues, rock has a lot of blues licks they are often just played faster or a bit modified. I was actually just having a discussion about this with some Dimash fans, Adam Lambert falls into this same category, they even sound extremely similar at times. These singers had years of vocal training, they are not fans of the blues or any type of soulful singing. Yes, they are extremely talented and they can sing a lot of high notes, but they don't really have any soul. They do a good job, but when you sing classic rock it is something different, it was originally written or performed with blues and some soulfulness. (I am not saying they were Ray Charles or something, but they did have some soul and real emotion). I do like classical styles of singing as well, I am not saying these people are bad singers. But I guess I just love more of an bluesy style, when it comes to singing rock. I like blues as well, in the blues people sing about their experiences in live. Sometimes you can't describe blues music as being pretty, but the music had real meaning and artists value. It is music for grown-ups. Adam Lambert is not a rock singer, he truly does a good job on power ballads, but he does not perform rock songs well. Because he is such a technical singer, he sings in a lot of head voice which sounds thin, and he doesn't have any grit. An untrained singer like Freddie basically just belted everything out in a powerful manner, and that is really how you sing rock. You are basically belting out what you are feeling in that moment. Rock comes from the blues, so there was a lot of improvisation and spontaneity during live rock concerts in the 70's, 80's and the 90's. These days you don't see much of that. Adam Lambert has done a lot of musical theater, he tends to act songs out. He is never going to lose himself in the music, he just does not have such a strong connection to the music. He does not have a lot subtlety, he is never going to sing something like The White Queen, You Take My Breath Away or My Melancholy Blues from Queen and a few others. It goes without saying that he doesn't have as much charisma as Freddie. That being said, Freddie is a difficult person to replace. A lot of Queen fans such as myself included, are very picky about the subject. I do want to see Brian May and Roger Taylor keep on touring, but I believe they should be doing it under a different name. It is not really Queen anymore without Freddie and John. That is why John Deacon retired, he said there was no point in continuing with the band if Freddie wasn't there. If they were touring and performing under a different name, people wouldn't care that much. They are now basically like a tribute band of themselves. They first toured with Paul Rodgers in the 2000's, that was more acceptable to people because Paul Rodgers is a legend in his own right. They did release a new album The Cosmos Rocks, with Paul Rodgers. The album was a big flop, there was one or two good songs but people just didn't really like it. Since that one album in 2008 they have never tried to produce any new music. This is what Roger Taylor has said about the subject: Does Mercury’s loss, though, necessarily weaken any music Queen make in the future? *“Well, you’re missing your best and prime songwriter,” Taylor says. “We could all write songs, but Freddie was born to it. He constantly surprised us. I still don’t know where some of his lyrics came from, they’re so clever, almost Cole Porter-ish at times. Or like when he was writing all that slightly Tolkien-esque, proggy stuff. I never saw Freddie read a book, but he must have been a great black hole of information. That’s why Brian and I haven’t made more new music since he died, because we know we wouldn’t bring the full arsenal that we had to the table."* All of the members from Queen had their role to play, but Freddie was really the driving force behind the band.

As a Queen fan for more than 45 years, I just never know what to think of Queen right now - (+AL). I have mixed feelings and it is a tense subject for me. You said this perfectly. I sometimes think they shouldn’t tour as the “Queen” name. But then the only songs they sing are Queen songs and many are Freddie’s own. Then... you add in if they recorded anything new, that couldn’t possibly be called Queen. Is it just because we are spoiled with this group who kept the same members for 20 years and kept amazing music on the charts for that long? Oh heavens, so hard! I am ALWAYS torn about Brian and Roger out on the road!!! (Well, suspended until 2021, but can’t wait to see how that returns). I want to get together with people I always see commenting on KZfaq (who I don’t even know!😛) and talk talk talk talk about nothing but Queen!!!! Thanks so much Zenobia!

Thanks for the kind words Joanne and Jodi! I have seen that there are rumours surfacing now of them making a new album, perhaps because they are stuck in house like everyone else. I think they are quite fearful of making a new album after The Cosmos Rocks, people don't even count that album as part of the Queen discography. But I do think Brian and Roger should keep on touring, they are musicians and they clearly love it. There are some bands that are touring like Fleetwood Mac who sometimes don't have any original member in the band, but that is slightly ridiculous in my opinion. Then you have some of the other big classical bands such as The Beatles and Led Zeppelin, practically all of their remaining members are touring but they have never really tried to regroup. It is not really hurting their popularity either. Can anyone imagine how strange it would be if The Beatles started touring again with replacements John and George. It is tricky, personally I think people had less of a problem with someone like Paul Rodgers. He was a big name in his own right, and he could sing the rock songs well enough, of course he isn't coming back and he shouldn't. I think it would be nice it they could give this opportunity to a unknown rock singer, or I think a female vocalist might be more interesting. I would love such a get together Jodi!

**Zenobia** You have all the great comments! Wouldn’t it be so strange if Paul and Ringo went out on tour with 2 completely different people and called it The Beatles!!?? Exactly! I would die if they recorded a new album with Adam and called it Queen (although I don’t have anything against Adam, he’s a fine singer, just not my cup of tea, solo OR singing Queen songs). I really wish I had you friends I could meet and sing and talk forever! My husband was so bugged at me just last night as I was watching a Queen KZfaq and singing at 1am!!!

Freddie was close to death here and in a lot of pain. According to Brian, Freddie was very weak and would tire very quickly and Freddie would take a shot of vodka and hold himself up on a monitor and say lets do this! He was missing part of his foot because of the disease and had a visible limp. The man was strong willed and just wanted to record as much as he could before he died. So very sad!!!!!! He recorded his voice on a few more songs but this was the last one he appeared in. His last recorded song was Mother Love, another beautiful song. If you review that do the lyric video as the other one some film students did as a project! Roger wrote this song about his family and missing his kids but it just fits as a farewell from Freddie as well.

New subscriber here. I really enjoy your reactions. I love this song and it always makes me cry. I am a massive Queen fan but I enjoy watching Brian and Roger perform with Adam Lambert. There is so much chemistry between all of them. Is it the same as Queen with Freddie no of course not but that wouldn't be possible. Freddie was one in a million. Adam brings his own gifts and talent to the Queen catalogue, There is a video of this song from the tour Brian Roger and Adam did in Japan in 2014 Roger sings the lead part and his son Rufus is on drums and it gives the song an extra emotional twist. Check it out and see what you think.

Freddie sounds better than some of the artists today and he was dying. That’s crazy. RIP Freddie Mercury. Freddie Mercury was a huge influence on people and to hear the news of his passing saddened many people. Innuendo, The Show Must Go On, Ride The Wild Wind, I’m Going Slightly Mad, Bijou, are some other great songs from this album. This whole albums is great. This was their last album before Freddie died, Freddie recorded some materiel before he died, that they used on their next album, Made In Heaven that was released in 1995. Freddie unfortunately got sick with AIDS. There was no cure back then and there still isn’t. So sad.

This was their last Music Video they did with Freddie. Freddie wanted to say a last ''goodbye'' in a Video and he didn't want to be remembered as a Cartoon Character (cartoon character because the music video to Innuendo was full of art) So then in the end of this music video as you saw, Freddie said *_I still Love you._* What an Great Man. Adam wasn't thought of as an replacement for Freddie They just tour with him as a Lead singer. And the band member that retired in 1997 was John Deacon the Bassist. Also a random fact, Freddie did grow himself a Stubble beard again after this Video. As someone already mentioned you reacted to this much too soon.
