Ride the lightning is even better, ride and master of puppets are just next level. Hope we get full reactions to them as well

Going from Kill 'Em All to Ride the Lightning you get the idea there had to have been like 5 years between albums because they sound so different, but they were literally writing Ride as they were going to record Kill.

@Help The overall sound is similar, but you can see how they have progressed as composers. Also in the studio production quality, and sounds of instrument and vocals get better in Ride (imo).

@Help They sound very different between KeA and RtL, there's much more maturity and better production with much more structure, compositionally and emotionally

You should also check out their cover of the song "Am I Evil" it's included as a bonus track on most releases of the album after the initial release.

Saw them 4 nights in a row on the Justice tour. Once on LSD haha

I enjoy your reactions man, very insightful. Two comments: a) Although Metallica never released a concept album, their first 4 albums each had a main theme. The first is called "Kill em all", thus the feelings of rage and murder runs throughout the album. b) I feel that metal especially in the 80s was the "go to" music for people who were bullied rather than those that were actually bullies. And the reason is that metal was unpopular, esoteric and rebellious, attributes more fitting for people that wanted to get back at the world.

Seek and destroy! Always a personal favorite of mine especially live. It was my first Metallica song I ever heard around 1985 I think. I have been hooked since then.

For me this is the BEST album, not only for the band, for the music in general. Not other better than this. Hey, they had 18 years old! Best James voice here. They are genius. Each other album has different atmosphere.... Master Piece every one. Good analisys. Normally, rap/ hiphop fans have speciall comprehension to understand and enjoy Metal music.

Love the full album reaction! Only thing I’ll add is you gotta go do the bonus tracks that were added to this album later, and react to “Am I Evil” and “Blitzkrieg”. Arguably two of their best. Then I’m looking forward to your full album reaction to “Ride the Lightning” and “Master of Puppets”! 🤘🤘🔥🔥 And don’t forget you could be the first to ever react to “the $5.98 EP- Garage Days Re-Revsisted” some of their absolute best ever riffs on that album!
@jimmiejaz
@jimmiejaz Жыл бұрын
Am I Evil, Blitzkrieg and the $5.98 ep are all covers, they're not written by Metallica. They're just paying tribute to their influences.
@bigdaddymosh1964
@bigdaddymosh1964 Жыл бұрын
@@jimmiejaz of course, but they played the songs and ramped up the heaviness of the riffs and made them their own. They’re all much heavier than the originals. Am I Evil and Blitzkrieg are covers too. Should he not react to those?
@jimmiejaz
@jimmiejaz Жыл бұрын
@@bigdaddymosh1964 I'm not saying don't, but they're not Metallica songs, any more than Slayer's cover of In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida makes it a Slayer song.

Lars barely even knew how to play drums when this album was recorded. Can't remember if it's true or not, but I've heard that he was talking drumming lessons while this album was still being recorded.

There is a interview from april (edit: march) 1983 on KZfaq where he says that he tries to learn how to play ”double bass” for the next album… But he was already talking about Ride the lightning, 3 weeks before they had even recorded Kill em all! It sounds that he wanted double bass on Kill em all, he just couldnt do it yet 😏 He don’t say anything about taking drum lessons from a drum teacher though. Just that he was going to practice double bass. (And he could play it fast on Ride the lightning)

Comments Add a comment... Eirik Rødberg 1 second ago I grew up on Metallica. A time we waited for albums and constantly read rock magazines to get info on when our favourite band was coming along with album fans were waiting for. So many good memories of finally going to the record store and there the brand new album was. Had heard nothing. Pre internet. No hints. Well…. Not quite right. Often they would release a single two weeks before the albums release to make everyone aware of the upcoming album and perhaps that single with an interesting b-side on the 7inch. A song that didn’t quite make the upcoming album, but often great and at times to be a fan favourite. Anyway. I waited for several Metallica albums. Master of puppets the first one in 86 when I was 14. 84, 86 and 88 were their big three in my opinion. Hated 1988s and justice for all initially. The production was so weird. Today it might be my favourite if theirs. The last great Metallica album. Would enjoy more sales in the 90s, but they lost me in 91ish.
