Dimebag said he came home drunk at like 5 in the morning and ripped a solo, thankfully having the wherewithal to record it, because that’s all the song needed for completion. He said he woke up the next day and said “Guess I better get on that solo.” Went into the studio and ran the tape back and was like “Damn. Thats pretty good.” Lol! He didn’t even remember doing it.

I met Vinnie once. He came to my home town here in Canada for a meet and signing. Dime was always my idol, he was already gone...meeting Vinnie and getting him to sign a Dime tribute piece of art my brother painted for me was surreal. He was so genuine when he told me the art moved him. The Abbott brothers were always about the fans. It's bitter sweet Vinnie is gone...but now he's throwing back Black Tooth Grins with Darrell...and that is a happy picture. Getcha' pull!! RIP

I always love when people say metal is bad, or evil. It’s neither of those. Metal is just filled with some awful feelings. Losing friends and family, suicide, war, depression and anxiety, etc. A lot of us metalheads use these songs to cope with our problems. I don’t see any music genre that really shows these horrible emotions so strongly. RIP VINNIE PAUL AND DIMEBAG

FoodIt3ms that’s what they don’t get. Metal is NOT bubblegum feel-good pop. It’s real music made by real people (not a committee of marketing execs) who’ve been through some shit themselves. It’s about acknowledging and probing the darker parts of the human soul and bringing the things that we all go through out into the light and dealing with them. A lot of people live in such a state of constant denial that they are uncomfortable with the idea of thinking about depression, grief, rage, existential angst and so on. They defend their little bubble by lashing out with shit-talk. Fuck ‘em.

Metal is about a healthy release of all the negative feelings. I tell people: I'm not angry cuz I metal, I metal cuz I'm angry. Phil Anselmo sang in Mouth For War: "The releasing of anger can better any medicine under the sun". And whatever you may feel about them, that's also what Metallica's St Anger(song AND album) was about. R.I.P. Vinnie, he's finally jamming with Dime again. Glad I got to see Pantera in 2001

Fun fact: Dimebag Darrel's guitar playing sounds a bit different than most guitar players in metal for a few reasons, one of them being he does not use a tube amplifier. Tubes are preferred over more modern transistors by most guitar players for their distortion qualities. Dimebag used a transistor-based amplifier instead, and it lends a unique sound. Interestingly, so does John Gallagher from Dying Fetus.

Solid state amps have thier share of devotees as well, they can provide a tightness tubes cant. I like a tubeish lead tomr, but its Ampeg VH-140C for banging it out. Tube amps are pricier up front and require massive upkeep by comparison, thus they're what manufacturers make the most money on coming and going. Sonce they provide huge revenues via advertising, the "popularity" of valve technology is promoted heavily thru media. I.E., it's more than a little bit straight up HYPE. In true blind listening tests even alleged tone experts have repeatedly failed to discern between tubes and solid state...just the facts...

It's simple for me. I remember hearing Pantera when they first made it big (I'm 46 btw). They were completely different than anything else. Long story short, I've seen them 9 times live. Regretfully, in some ways, I never really watched them. However I always had to buy a new concert shirt each time as I would "lose" the one I wore there. I still have my 1996 shirt from the last time I saw them. It shows it's age well and is a great memory from such a awesome time. I'm glad that you are able to appreciate something that has been a part of many peoples lives for decades now. It truly was one of the best eras in music. Keep it real.

This was the song that really sold me on Pantera back in the day! I actually listened to this Cassette so much I wore it out, I know you likely have no idea what I mean, but cassettes were the thing back in my early metal days lol! Vinnie was one of fav drummers all time and still is a legend! He will never die lol! RIP Dime and Vinnie!

Hey bro, I just wanna express how great it is to see a real music lover travel outside of his/her topical genre, and enjoy it! More so, it's amazing to see am individual light up from it. It's common to see an impression made, or a feeling of respect (the nod of arrival), but I can see in your reaction vid, that you now carry the Pantera torch too! Just about any song you play and experience from them, will flip your eyelids back 😂 Glad you took the time to explore Pantera! Vinnie Paul and the Guitarist, Dimebag Daryl were brothers. Each had overwhelming impact in music threw there lives! We were blessed to have had them. Thanks bro

Fun story: I'm from Texas and through some weird circumstances, my old manager use to run Vinnie Paul's fantasy football team. His league played for like $10,000 and Vinnie'd offered to give him 1/3 if he won. He didn't, but he did come up and say hi to all of us at work. Coolest fucking dude ever!

Thanks for reacting to this song. It’s definitely one of their best and is a fitting tribute to Vinnie. After Pantera broke up, Vinnie and Dimebag formed a band called Damageplan... which is what led to Dime being shot on stage at one of their shows by a crazy Pantera fan. After some time had passed, Vinnie ended up jamming with the ex singer from Mudvayne and they eventually formed the band Hellyeah. Vinnie’s drum style is less about being flashy and more about knocking the hell out of those skins haha. I think you would enjoy the Hellyeah song “Be Unden!able”. It’s a very infectious and energetic track with a powerful beat. 🤘😎🤘

I know this falls into unbelievable CSB territory, but I not only met Vinnie but he sat on my families couch and drank one of my dads beers once. I lived in Arlington, Tx at the time...(around 91-92) and Vinnie was going after the next door neighbors daughter. (about 20 years old then iirc) I had just gotten home from school and nobody else was home, and here is this somewhat scary looking bearded dude with a trucker hat knocking on the neighbors door...I didn't know who he was but the Dallas Cowboys t-shirt he was wearing disarmed me and I felt at ease enough to say "can I help you with something?" Vinnie said "I'm supposed to pick up

Awwww man. This song gets me every time. My friend Mike Alexander from UK band Evile passed away on tour 10 years ago. The band did a cover of this for UK metal magazine Metal Hammer and it was the last song he recorded with the band before his untimely passing. From what i heard it got the Vinnie approval too which is of course awesome. Can i please suggest you check out Evile - In memoriam as that was the song they wrote in tribute for Mike and also the song 'Cult' both from the album 'Five serpent's teeth'. I think you would really dig it and of course you would gain eternal appreciation. Thanks man, stay safe.
