Dislocation is a serious complication that can occur after total hip replacement surgery, where the ball and socket of the artificial hip joint become separated.
The risk is relatively low, with an incidence rate of 2-5%.
However, certain factors such as old age, medical comorbidities, revision surgery, female sex, ligament laxity, poor muscle control or strength, certain surgical techniques and implant types can increase the risk.
Patients should understand the risks before the surgery and follow post-operative precautions such as avoiding certain positions and movements and increasing muscle strength to reduce the incidence of dislocation.

I’m in the uk and 4 weeks post op total hip replacement can u tell me what can be going on because I’ve got really bad groin pain. I was told by other people that had a new hip that all your pain goes away but mine hasn’t 😢

Tell me about it I ended up getting sciatic palsy and drop foot and I'm extreme pain everyday even the area where I got my hip replacement and it's been two and a half years pain I really feel for you

A month after replacement I tried to tie my shoe. Out it went.

That is not good. Hopefully it will scar up and stabilise. A month is too soon to be flexing the hip that much, as scar tissue acts as a secondary stabilisor and matures at around 6-8 weeks.

Sorry to hear that Dawn. If a complication happens to you it will never seem rare. However for hip dislocation females under 50 years have an 8.12% lifetime risk compared with 6.35% for males. Given the fact they will have their new hip in for 25 years plus.

I have legg calve perthes disease and had a total hip replacement 2 years ago and they totally screw me over there so please do your homework people before you get hip surgery cuz there's a lot of butchers out there
