I had hip replacement surgery three weeks ago. I’m a fitness professional. Everyone told me all the stories of people being up and active two weeks out. That hasn’t been my experience. I have to rest A LOT. I’m sad that this has happened to you, but thanks for being transparent. Not everyone climbs Mt. Everest two weeks post surgery.

It is so individual, like everything in life eh? Sadly we often compare or are given advice that encourages us to compare. I wish YOU happy healing. I taught fitness classes for years and years. Loved the energy of cycling, kickboxing, pilates and barre. So fun! You’ll be back soon!

I love your videos! I fell on ice and broke my hip and needed a total hip replacement. I am recovering slower than most despite being fairly young and in decent health and decent shape. I was starting to get discouraged but your videos really help. I am able to see all the wonderful things that have come from this whole process. My husband and I have grown closer, I see how much people are willing to help and care about me and so many other small things. I have learned I can give up control of everything around me and things will still be ok. While in many ways I wish the accident never happened, I am grateful that I did not hurt anywhere else in my body, only my right hip, which already had some osteoarthritis already. I am grateful for many things. You seem to have the mindset I need to be watching while I recover.

Had a hip fracture last July with partial hip replacement using lateral approach. The recovery was slow and difficult, and then, after 4 months, I was no longer able to walk more than 100 feet anymore. Went to a hip specialist, and he did a conversion surgery to full hip replacement using an anterior approach 3 weeks ago, and the difference is almost unbelievable between the 2 approaches. The first surgery it took a month to get off the walker and another month to get off the cane inside the house. For the new surgery, i was on the walker for just a week and on the cane in the house for just another week! After these experiences, I believe only anterior approach hip surgeries should be done unless there is some medical reason to exclude it. I dont think the posterior or lateral approach surgeons realize just how much easier the recovery from the anterior approach is.

I'm at 3 week. The hip itself feels amazing. The stretching during surgery caused ankle, foot, knee at week 2. I'm realizing this setback is okay. Gotta heal it to move on. I'd be walking unassisted if this wasn't going on. Oh well, hurdle to push thru. Like I said I focus on no hip pain and when this clears up it will be awesome. I'm in it for long haul. Stop watching these other nut jobs showing you their walking unassisted at week 1. This video has so many positive points. Setbacks are real and we move thru them, it's not forever. ❤. Loved the honesty. It can be defeating. Turn that defeat into a battle you will win. ❤

Just had my right hip replaced (Anterior) last week and started week two of recovery yesterday. So far I've been lucky, no complications what so ever. Yesterday I was able to resign the walker and now using a cane. Walking around the inside of the house up and down stairs just fine. I've always been a very fast healer, however, despite today having 0% hip pain, the resulting pain of the surgery itself is something else. Swelling, discomfort, restricted movement is no joke; even the risk of moving wrong in your sleep and popping out that new joint is real. Anyone who tries to claim they're 100% active after only 2 weeks, let alone 4 of recovery, I'd call their BS every time. The trauma caused to those muscles and tendons from the surgery need time to heal, because they are the ones that hold that hip joint in place.

Using an ice machine for at least the first week is critical. It keeps the swelling down, which makes the healing process easier. Those of you about to undergo this surgery, make sure you have one of those ice machines and use it for as long as you can stand it.

Funny you mention that wedge. I used mine for the first week. I’m 11 days past my hip replacement. If the darn wedge wasn’t foam, I think I could handle it more. Just something about that foam. Eeeeek. Plus, it doesn’t seem to have been an issue, me trying to cross my legs.

I have come to love the wedge! Since I had a revision I signed up for 12 more weeks! I have 9 to go. My silly cat who never likes me, has decided the wedge is his spot. So I sleep with the wedge an obese cat on top 🤣🤣🤣 I actually like the comfort of the wedge. The cat can go tho 🤣

Walked out of my back door onto my deck to help move a huge potted plant during my cross-country move, misstepped & fell off my deck causing an impacted hip fracture. Who knew that would be the last time I was ever in my house; I didn’t get to say goodbye & no closure. Ambulance then anterior total hip replacement surgery on 5/3/24. I am 57. Graduated to a cane this week, but feel unstable. Ankle hurts, tailbone aches always. Thank you for your video & sharing your journey. My move is 6/23 & doctor recommended car vs plane (4.5 days traveling). I get lotsa info from comments so wanted to share mine.

Day 6 post opt I walk a little every couple hours in a walker, rest elevate ice my hip, use Tylenol every 4 hours or so and aspirin to prevent blood clots, I am taking it very very slow, I learned it takes 9 months for a implant to merge into the bone , about 10% each month, I appreciate your honestly and sharing and wish you healing and peace
