I’m looking forward to snowboarding again. I missed it this winter. But by next winter I will be hitting the slopes. I’ll most likely stay out of the park, I don’t want an accidental fall that could hurt my hip. They say it takes up to a year to fully recover. I have felt pretty good at 1 month but still new I had to be careful. Buy the end of month 2, I could run and jump.

Thanks for sharing, I am 1 week out from my operation (also anterior). Appreciate your documentation in a real world kinda way. Funny, I didn't know but I had viewed some of your other video's (shows viewing bar progress) as I'm a Crestron/AV integrator. I've been unable to do any builds in the last 3 or so years, so I'm excited to be bending down and doing terminations at the bottom of a rack soon. Geesh, never thought I'd look forward to that! Cheers!

Thanks for watching. When I do heavy weight on the leg press machine, my hip is sore in the morning. If I do single leg press. I don’t have the issue. But I can squat just fine. I go right to 90 degrees and then come back up. No other leg exercises give me issues. Good luck with your recovery.

Hey Frank, today is January 21, 2024 and I had my RTHR anterior approach on January 12, 2024. Your video have been so inspirational and I set goals just like you did in the 1st video. I actually went to the gym yesterday on day 8 after surgery and rode the recumbent bike for 20 minutes and went 3.7 miles. So I'm making great progress and I only take my cane with me when I leave home but I haven't needed it since about day 5. Again, thanks for these videos, just wanted you to know you inspired me to push through and get after it.

How’s walking? No more limping I’m guessing? Looks like you built back up pretty good again. I’m an avid golfer so walking is a huge reason why I am doing the surgery . I can barely make 18 holes now. I’m limping terrible at 9 and by 14-15th hole it’s like I’m not going to make it. I’ve got to get this hip done! I’m scheduled for mid Feb. Man I pray this works

thanks for the great video. are you able to swing your leg up and over your bicycle seat now? wonder if I’ll have better range of motion than I do now to get on dirt bike and surf again including sitting on a surfboard with legs on either side. I can do these things now I just pay the price but if I have to give up surfing and dirt bike riding, not sure I’ll go thru with the surgery as I’m 62 and those are my only lifelong passions and exercise. I could wait, but the promise of being pain free with actually added range of motion are compelling reasons (if true) to go for it now.

Thanks for your videos, they are helping me feel a little less nervous about getting my right hip done. I had reconstructive surgery in 2004. My surgeon said at some point I would need a replacement. I have lived on and off with pain since 2004 but the last few weeks I have been in pain consistently and I can’t take it anymore. I am going to make the appointment soon to start the process. I am also not looking forward to being out of work since I am the only income, I am a electrician and walk / climb all day so going back will take some time. I need to save some more money before surgery since disability is only 60% of my pay.

I’m 36 with sever osteoarthritis on both hips unfortunately. Has doctor said anything about doing all these leg exercises and how putting that weight on the new joint affects it? This is Frank from upstate N.Y. I'm 64 and two years ago I had my left Hip replaced via the Posterior, side method. Went very well and I was back to work in six weeks. On Sept 9, 2022 I just had my Right Hip replaced via the Anterior , ( front) method..... And I'm not seeing the advantage of this Front surgical method. I'm 4 weeks in and I have a lot of numbness and soreness in the right thy and side of thigh and upper calf..... So point,. A lot of people have spoken very positive about the Anterior approach....... I'm not seeing it...... Do want to share what I've just experienced......
@FrankGuest
@FrankGuest Жыл бұрын
Thanks. I appreciate your comments. Every surgery is different. I’m sorry your second replacement did not go as well as you had hoped. My numbness lasted a bit longer than the soreness from the incision. I started working from home 2 weeks post operation. By 4 weeks my wife had our son. I was able to help with the baby with pretty much no issues. Long term, all three options have the same outcome. But in my research and my experience, it’s a much faster recovery with the anterior approach. Wishing you the best! Ice that hip and do your PT! Thanks again for the comment.

Thanks for the videos i watched the first one too, I'm 45 years old, when I was 21 I was riding a bicycle and a car hit me. About 3 years later i started to develop arthritis on my left hip, where the car hit me, I would say since age 26 I haven't been able to tie my left shoe, since then i have very limited range of motions, been limping since then, the doctors have recommended me hips replacement since about 20 years ago, but i was to scared back then, im still now, but your videos have given me confidence to get my life back, thank you very much... how are you doing right now with your hip?
@FrankGuest
@FrankGuest 10 ай бұрын
I was in the same boat. I was scared as well. But I had young kids and I was not able to really play with them. I would sit on a bench as they played at the playground, or sit on the sofa as my wife would roll around the floor with them. I was not being the parent that I wanted to be. I am so happy I did the surgery. I have my life back. To your question about how I am now. To be honest, most the time I forgot that I even had the surgery. Sometimes after a long day working I can feel a little bit I’d scar tissue inside the incision location. But it’s not painful at all. I just feel it. But I don’t feel it all the time. Just sometimes at night. I used to never put weight on my left hip. Now without even thinking, that is the hip that I rely on the most. Thanks for watching and sharing your story.

Frank, Watched both of your hip replacement videos and I hope you continue to do well.I’m going to be getting both hips done simultaneously here shortly. I workout a lot and do many of the exercises you showed on the video. Specifically, burpees are a large part of my routine. Wondered what you thought of returning to doing high rep burpees and whether you think the hip can handle that movement. Concerned about the kick out and kick back as to would it loosen the prosthetic hip joint? I’m getting both hips done, so I may have more restrictions. Hope all is well
@FrankGuest

Thanks for watching. You should be fine. When I did my burpees. I was still stiff but I do them fine now. I snowboarded a few times last year as well. Went once this year already. Listen to your doctor and physical therapist. Don’t do things too soon. Pace your recovery and you will be fine. At this point I rarely think about my new hip. It’s way stronger than my OEM hip.

Hi, well done on the lifting, amazing!…I had an Anterior Rottinger approach total Hip with a so called newer.2020 model B. Braun implant, not cemented, with ceramic head, the physio told me I will be able to do the splits eventually:-), ha... My fear is subsidence or Femur fracture from too much weight loading on the leg. I am 6 weeks in and able to walk fast & stride up steep hills occasionally with rest days, I can squat easily without weight. But I want to ask how confident you are about the weight you are lifting????. And when I can start to lift more, it’s a major procedure to fix if the joint or bone fails. Of course it isn’t common, but I want to get rid of the fear. What is your weight limit according to your joint manufacturer & surgeon?. Thanks a lot. You are very lucky to have such a lovely daughter, and she is clearly lucky to have such a great dad.:-).. all the best to you and getting our bodies back;-)..

My doctor gave me no official limitation during my recovery period. He knew I would be going back to the gym. He just said, whatever I feel comfortable squatting or leg pressing, do just a little bit less until I was six month post operation. I felt more comfortable doing squats than leg press. Sometimes the day after leg press, my hip was a little sore. But it was never sore after squats. Leg press I kept to sets of 10 and squats, sets of 6. I felt doing it this way, I was never lifting too heavy. It worked for me. I felt pretty much 100 percent by 16 weeks. But I did with the doctor said and kept at a light until six months post operation.
@seligseligabc123
@seligseligabc123 11 ай бұрын
@@FrankGuest Hi, thank you so much for taking time to reply. I see what you say, of course I don’t know exactly what implant you have compared to mine, if that makes a difference? All I know is my implant is a newer generation, so I assume more capable, I spoke to my implant product manager who replied to my question about if I could go back to running, he stated, yes the implant can certainly cater for that. I am 5.8 weeks post Op and have trotted up my local steep road and it feels ok with some ligament / tendon location twinges, I expect will diminish once the joint membrane capsule grows back which few patients learn about. I happened to find out if the joint remains open, and it does become encapsulated again. I was surprised at this regrowth. Good news so it makes things more secure & smooth after 6-8 months. I can squat with knees to chest with body weight & I have also carefully put my nose on my knees with my leg straight out while sitting down being a Yoga enthusiast before my operation, i was worried about this but it looks good. The joint range is impressive, and it isn’t dual mobility, I was worried about dislocation, but less likely with the Anterior approach & no muscle cuts. Ok, so 6 months is the breaking point to adding weight being more intense. I used to do straight leg deadlifts at a fast rate with 75kg fixed. The idea was explosive power & speed. So I did 15reps then waited 25 seconds then 15 again, repeating that 4 times. By the 60th rep after 1 min 40 seconds my heart rate was super fast & I found it really effective for strength without adding too much muscle, since I also ran 20 miles a week & cycled around 400 miles a month at 21.8 mph yearly average speed. I can say my running hill sprint intervals & cycle power went up fast just doing that short deadlift workout with pull ups, and a 13 set of 12 reps selection of increasingly complex burpees moves within 15 mins on other days. That was really intense, I got that workout from AtheneX check him out on KZfaq, very informative. Just that burpees session alone helped so much feel super fit.. In the past I was more concerned with body building, just before my bike crash I was only 10.5 stone at 5ft 10. But really strong…. Also my surgeon said you weigh less so that’s better for the implant. Anyway thanks again and all the luck to you. Now we must be careful to take care of our other good hip;-)…

Swelling was not that big of an issue for me. The pain was really only bad when I was trying to sleep. But soreness around the incision was there for a while. It was bearable though.

Completed my full left hip replacement end November, mine was very complex including bone grafts to my pelvis, quick question please how far can you walk without experiencing pain or tiredness?
@FrankGuest
@FrankGuest Жыл бұрын
Right now I can walk forever. I can run jump and jog. But I don’t plan on running unless someone large is chasing me. lol. Back to your question. Sounds like your surgery was more complex than mine. You should be about 6 months post operation now. You should be good to go. No pain at all and no limited mobility. If that is not the case you should call your doctor.

Hi Frank. First off, thank you so much for the 2 videos about your rehabilitation. They're very encouraging and helpfull. My surgery is May 5th, right hip, Anterior approach. They've given me these pre-op exercises to do, are these mandatory you think? I already do static biking and half squats with some weights. Also, I'm a part time musician and my 1st Summer show is in mid-June. Do you think I'd be ok standing for 2 sets of 50 minutes? I know everybody's rehabilitation is different, but after a month and a half, were you able to stand for roughly 2 hours? Thanks again Frank
@FrankGuest
@FrankGuest 2 жыл бұрын
As long as your surgery goes well, by mid June you should be able to stand just fine for 2 hours. So t dance too much on stage though. 30 days after my surgery I had a baby boy. As far as the exercises the doctor gave you. The more you can do before the surgery the better. Remember to ice your hip after your PT and after any time you leave the house for the first month or so. Keep your leg elevated to avoid swelling. Swelling will slow your recovery.

Sounds like your hip is in worst shape than mine was. But I don’t think that will matter. They are going to replace everything. You will be a new women 4-6 weeks after surgery. Your young so I assume your recovery will be as quick as mine. Good luck and check back a week or so after your surgery. I would love to hear how your doing. Please give my video a thumbs up. 👍

Surgery was Monday, and the PT just came to my house today. So between that there was no one I could find that gave me a good answer. Most places online list weeks before full weight is supposed to be on it. So my PT guy says I can put full weight on it if by like accident. That's how it was explained to me, as tolerated. Anyways my PT guy says the cane won't work to help with gait practice, so that is why they don't use them until a couple of weeks go by
