Late comment but make them yellow, it stands out more at a distance putting some would be thief's off, any attempted attacks will be more visible and it is also a psychological colour, but also a reminder that you've put a big chunky lock on your bike take it off before riding away.

LPL has picked it, but he had to create a special tool to do it .. which he now sells. The safety is that it does require skills thieves don't have. It requires a fairly calm environment to pick a lock. Very sensitive sense of touch. High degree of concentration.

So very sorry I missed out on the Kickstarter campaign! I almost missed out on Altor's SAF lock too, but managed to secure one last minute! I'm looking forward to seeing your product hit the market soon. I was excited to read of the creation of the material "Proteus" in July 2020. I'm really hoping all the lock manufacturers get on this ASAP! It's past time the lock takes an evolutionary jump forward to thwart angle grinders. I was there when ulocks came along and made flimsy chains and cables obsolete. Then the car jack method. Worked with Bad Bones to help test their product. Then the urban myth of liquid nitrogen. Then the real Bic Pick fiasco! I've been beefing up and reinforcing my locks for decades to make sure my bike was the LAST one a thief wanted to try to steal. You guys are taking it a step further! Kudos!

I know that there are supply chain issues around the planet, however it would nice if Hiplok could offer a target for sale date for the public... ...It doesn't make financial sense to purchase a $100+ lock, then months later make another $300 purchase. So, with all due respect I ask, What is up Hiploc people??? It's been a long wait. Show your perspective customers some love. We want to know the 411.

Everyone's so obsessed with LPL and lock picking. It's a rare occurrence for a thief to pick a lock. Perhaps it was the Kryptonite Bic Pick that got everyone's attention? Probably not now though; that was 2004. Thieves simply don't pick locks to steal bikes. They're too dumb. Plus, why fiddle with a lock mechanism when a grinder will do the trick? Remember the "bump lock" scare about five years ago? Same thing. Mass hysteria over something thieves don't do! People running out to buy $300 Safeco and Medeco dead bolts ($600 installed!) when it was totally unnecessary. Plus, what good is an impenetrable dead bolt when you can kick the door in? Or what good is an impenetrable door when a glass window is two feet away? Always consider your weakest link before employing overkill in just ONE area! Locksmiths LOVE charging for house calls!!!

@PhilAndersonOutside
@PhilAndersonOutside 2 жыл бұрын
@@Rorzzer123 That's my suspision as well. The argument that "it would take a couple diamond disks, because they get ruined quicker" doesn't hold weight when the blade cuts far better. @@ilovephotography1254 A thermal lance will cut through even more, even a high end enforced safe. but they also destroy everything they touch. I'm also not sure how many criminals carry around an arc welder or torch though! Unfortunately to produce and profit on a lock, it is necessary to have a mass market that would buy the lock. Trikes compared to bikes are rare. In addition, smaller locks tend to be more difficult to defeat. Maybe combine with a chain or loop together a second D1000.

Does the lock body have the ferosafe material in it also, or is it just in the shackle? If not, it seems like a thief would angle-grind through the centre rather than attack the shackle, and in this case it would be no better (and no worse) than any other D-lock.

If you are not lucky or you don't believe in such thing called luck (like me) 9:22 ...and its actually around 1-1.5 min max for one side to cut D1000. I studied about many bike locks this few weeks, many angle grinding tests and this is no angle grinder proof lock sadly against pro thieves, and lock like that doesn't exist, I found out this today before ordering DX1000. Absolutely. This ulock is the solution we've been waiting for. I own an Altor SAF lock and it works. But it's heavy at 13 pounds, so big it limits your locking options, and expensive at $300. Most people would never try to ride with it, but I do. Works fine on my rear rack or in my pannier. It does affect handling though! But it's my go-to when I'm locking my expensive bike on SF Bay Area streets!!! (Yes, my commuter bike is expensive. My old beloved mountain bike turned commuter. I tried the whole "beater bike" thing but realized I like riding quality bikes too much to spend time on crap!) There's always Almax chains and Squire padlocks for motos, especially for home security. Their top chain and padlock weighs 55 pounds and costs $750. But if you want your bike to STAY HOME, that's the choice I'd use!!!

@@Red_Rides_Bikes A bigger concern, at least in motorcycling, tends to be disabling a lock before it's used - that's why it's important not to leave a lock attached somewhere while it's not in use. It's always our advice that if you leave your lock in place and arrive to find it disabled, do not park up as there's a chance a thief is waiting for you to leave the bike in its usual place, unable to use your security. If that did happen, park somewhere well away (or ideally use another lock). Basically, don't leave an unused lock lying around. The scenario you've talked about is less likely as they still need to make all the noise and effort, and the owner is more likely to be be needing the bike to get home, so will call out a locksmith or a mate to help get the bike free. You can get through anything given enough time, so in the unlikely scenario that this lock was made inoperable, you will get it off eventually - it'll just take more grinding discs and batteries than anything else currently on the market.

Sound advice, I’ll always carry my locks with me although sometimes I do leave one behind as two DLocks are a lot to lug around in my backpack. I’ll be sure to definitely bring them back with me no matter how tempting it’ll be.

Designed in UK made in China, doesn't give much confidence, anything I've had that originates from china has been let down by quality issues.

Yes, but the time it takes to do it... Get a motion detector, GPS tracker (if the vehicle is moved), a good attack dog(s) and / or take advantage of the gun shows around (U.S.A.). That motion detector goes off - and it's not the wind or squirrel - go out and handle your business! At the moment, i guess nothing out now is "grinder proof", but it's something better - for now.
