They're so beautiful! What type of enrichment excersices do you plan to use with the pair? Hippos are such gorgeous animals, can't wait to see the next episode!!

Hippos are so great, as I watch them on the Internet over in Africa, but also at zoos in the USA, where you can see them walking/gliding around in glass tanks. It occurred to me, that they are sort of like manatees, except they developed short legs to walk out of the water to feed on more greens. But those giant tusks protect them a bit when they are vulnerable on land, especially when they are feeding at night. And I think they can open their jaws to an impressive 150 degrees, which makes for some pretty wide grins. :)

Your breeding program, and smile program it has created for us viewers, :) made a good choice with Adhama. When you see him come outside, and open his mouth as wide as he does, as if he's expecting manna from heaven, and everything else, YOU CAN SEE HE IS SAYING, "I'm Mr. BIG in this hippo outpost, and all of ya' better get the message. LOL I expect him to start working out with heavy barbells at any time. LOL Well, I guess he is already living with Barbell fish in his environment, so that process has already started. :)

Yep, that "smile" is pretty amazing! The hippos don't live with any other species at the moment, but they are close to our okapi habitats. We hope you can make it out sometime to see for yourself!
