that’s such a great way of looking at it! i always thought the point of the movie was that there is no point. we watch sam search for something so complicated and we too find ourselves searching for any clue or riddle or symbol, something we’d miss if we walked pass them on the street. characters in the film are even constantly telling sam (and us) to give up, that there’s really nothing to look for yet we continue and we carry on searching to discover it was really all for nothing. It feels like the centre of this movie is ‘the dog killer’ but we never find out who it is. i can garuntee we all thought the old lady’s parrot was a huge mystery breaking clue yet we never find out what it’s saying. we never find out who shot at sam and that lady in the lake. it’s all just a big ‘it’s all for nothing’

@@dksoulstice6040 The payoff would be learning a secret truth about the real world...The movie was made by wealthy well-connected Hollywood insiders; and it dealt with topics like Underground parties, musicians signing contracts to keep quiet that their music was written by other people, subliminal messages in movies/music/games, secret religious groups influencing wealthy people in Hollywood, etc.... And the whole point of the movie was that these secret clues and references in Pop-culture actually ended up leading to some truth

From little things like why are the candybars right infront of the checkout, to the media coverage of the longest 15 days in human history (the colours, the tragic music, the 24/7 death count in the corner of the screen), and so on, and so on. A little bit like Gang signs. You and i only see doodels and scribble, but the ppl who do know about them can see a clear and detailed message. To cut it short: 'You're a slave, Neo!'.
